Background: Previous studies revealed there are many gaps in the awareness and knowledge regarding the diagnosis and management of drug allergy (DA) among various health-care professionals. Objective: To assess the knowledge, attitudes, and practices towards DA among residents and interns of 3 university hospitals in the region of Trakya (Thrace), Turkey. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted at university hospitals of 3 cities in the Trakya region: 1. Trakya University Medical Faculty, Edirne (n = 405), 2. Namik Kemal University Medical Faculty, Tekirdag (n = 114), and 3. Canakkale 18 Mart University Medical Faculty, Canakkale (n = 111). A Turkish questionnaire was developed based on previous published studies. Results: The majority of participants (67%) had not received education on DA as a separate subject during their medical education. Less than a third (28.3%) of all respondents were satisfied with their knowledge concerning patients with clinical signs of DA. Of the 6 knowledge questions on DA, the average score for the study was 3.51 out of 6 (58.5%). Residents had a higher knowledge score (3.93 +/- 1.1) compared with interns (3.05 +/- 1.2) (p < 0.001). The lowest percentage of correct answers were in response to questions on laboratory confirmation of drug-related anaphylaxis (14.5%) and the possibility of penicillin toleration in patients with a history of penicillin allergy (11.8%). The majority of participants (92%) believe that medical doctors should be educated in DA. There were no significant correlations between taking DA histories and the frequency during daily practice of encountering patients. Conclusion: Our study revealed that DA knowledge and attitudes are not at satisfactory level among respondents, and we concluded the importance and necessity of reinforcement of DA education in pre- and postgraduate education of medical doctors

The mediating effect of endogenous creativity on knowledge exploitation and firm performance in an emerging economy

The emerging economies are key factors in the future growth of world trade and the maintenance of global financial stability. Little is known about the way in which firms in emerging economies strategically manage the learning â creativity process to develop competitive advantage in both domestic and global markets. We extend the literature on learning and human capital by positing a model and examining 1) the mediating role of higherorder human capital in the relationship between learning facilitation and knowledge exploitation (KE); and 2) the mediating role of endogenous creativity in the KE â firm performance relationship. Qualitative method based on the sample in Chinaâs firms was adopted and the results indicate that all the hypothesized relationships are supported

Objective: The purpose of this study is to compare the computer-assisted planimetry and point-counting methods in evaluating the sizes of the mandibular cysts with respect to their agreement and the time required to analyze. Study Design: The surface areas of 46 mandibular cyst lesions on orthopantomograms were estimated using the point-counting and computer-assisted planimetry methods. Three observers evaluated the outlined areas twice, using the point-counting (PC) and computer-assisted planimetry (CAP) methods with an interval of two weeks. In the planimetry technique, digitalized images and ImageJ software were used to measure the surface area of the half mandibles and cysts. The grids were superimposed over the same images and the number of points hitting the interested structures was counted for the point-counting technique. The projection area fraction (PAF) of the cysts within the mandible was estimated using the obtained values by means of the two techniques. Intraclass correlation coefficient was used to assess the level of agreement between the two methods. Inter-rater reliability analysis using the Kappa statistic was performed to determine consistency among raters. Results: CAP and PC techniques showed consistent intra-observer values in all observers. Intraclass correlation between CAP and PC measurements of first, second and third observers were found to be 0.9986, 0.9988 and 0.9994 respectively. The durations of PC technique was 32% higher than the CAP technique. Conclusion: PC and CAP methods were seemed to show sufficient agreement to be used interchangeably. The main disadvantage of the PC analysis is it takes more time than CAP method

Evaluation of the Alternatives of Introducing Electric Vehicles in developing countries using Type-2 neutrosophic numbers based RAFSI model

    Get PDF
This study focuses on implementing electric vehicles (EVs) in developing countries where energy production is mainly based on fossil fuels. Although for these countries the environmental short-run benefits of the EVs cannot offset the short-run costs, it may still be the best option to implement the EVs as soon as possible. Hence, it is necessary to evaluate the alternatives to introducing EVs to the market due to the environmental concerns that created an opportunity for some developing countries to catch up with the international competition. Therefore, we develop a case scenario to explore the decision-making process in implementing the EVs with three alternatives and twelve criteria. We solve the decision-making problem by using Type-2 neutrosophic numbers (T2NNs) based on the RAFSI (Ranking of Alternatives through Functional mapping of criterion sub-intervals into a Single Interval) method. The proposed model combines the advantages of the RAFSI technique, and it applies T2NNs to address the uncertainties. The results show that the alternatives that may suspend the implementation of the EVs are inferior. Direct implementation of EVs is prioritized. The policy implications of the results are discussed in the study
