The social movements assume increasingly a greater role in the democratic states of the Western World, establishing itself as an important form of social and political participation. While carrying a protest that aims to influence and change policy decisions, the social movements aggregate, at its core, several people with different ideas, different objectives, that understand collective action differently. Besides this heterogeneity of individuals, the social movements are characterized by the variety of its modus operandi, by employing different resources and different contexts in which they arise. In exercising the protest, the social movements lead to cross their action with the police activity, requiring that the police know these social phenomena and be prepared to deal with them. In this work we present a theoretical reflection on social movements and the police activity they entail. Using a qualitative approach, it is also characterized the transnational movement War Resisters' International

How design and technology can contribute to learning: the Mobeybou in Brazil educational game case study

    Get PDF
Currently, there is a generation of children that tend to be exposed from a very early age to digital media, especially in the most economically and culturally developed societies. Thus, it is necessary to think about ways in which technology can contribute to learning, namely by seeking to converge the recreational component with the educational while preventing or suppressing potential dangers. This study aimed at extending the Mobeybou pedagogical materials, i.e., a Digital Manipulative for storytelling, and a set of interactive story applications, thus integrating the easy access that children have to technologies and the positive characteristics of games. In this context, here we present a descriptive case study of the design process of the interface for a game to be integrated into the Mobeybou in Brazil story app. The game interface is intended to reinforce the knowledge conveyed through the reading of the story app, therefore contributing to the development of language skills, creativity, and digital literacy. The game interface should be easy and intuitive to use, its development followed a design thinking methodology. A pilot test carried out with a group of five children aged between 8 and 9 years-old revealed very encouraging results, showing that the game interface was easy to use and engaged children with the story content. This work has been financed by national funds through the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT)—and by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Competitiveness and Internationalization Operational Program under the reference POCI/01/0145/FEDER/032580

Once upon a time: a kit of tools for reading and telling stories

    Get PDF
This paper discusses the contribution of Design in the development of a kit of tangible and multimedia tools for children to collaboratively read and create stories about the world. Here, we detail the design process, including the investigation of visual concepts, the prototyping and the user studies carried out during the development of the tools. We discuss the contribution of Design in the development of each step both through the adoption of theoretical concepts from the field, and by following a participatory Design and a User Centered Design approach. In the context of an investigation that combines a range of different fields, we argue that the Design has acted as the element that materializes and unifies the multidisciplinary contributions, leading to the creation of compelling engaging materials, which have the potential to involve users in the creation of multicultural narratives. This work has been financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), through the Operational Programme for Competitiveness and Internationalization (POCI) - COMPETE 2020, under Portugal 2020, and by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT)- under the reference POCI/01/0145/FEDER/032580

This study aimed to analyze anthropometric and body composition effects in professional soccer women players across the early and mid-competitive 2019/20 season. Seventeen players (age, height, body mass, and body mass index of 22.7 ± 6.3 years, 167.5 ± 5.6 cm, 60.7 ± 6.6 kg and 21.6 ± 0.2 kg/m2) from a Portuguese BPI League team participated in this study. The participants completed ≥80% of 57 training sessions and 13 matches. They were assessed at three points (before the start of the season (A1), after two months (A2), and after four months (A3)) using the following variables: body fat mass (BFM), soft lean mass (SLM), fat-free mass (FFM), intracellular water (ICW), extracellular water (ECW), total body water (TBW), and phase angle (PhA, 50 Khz), through InBody S10. Nutritional intake was determined through a questionnaire. Repeated measures ANCOVA and effect sizes (ES) were used with p < 0.05. The main results occurred between A1 and A2 for BFM (−21.7%, ES = 1.58), SLM (3.7%, ES = 1.24), FFM (4%, ES = 1.34), ICW (4.2%, ES = 1.41), TBW (3.7%, ES = 1.04). Furthermore, there were significant results between A1 and A3 for FFM (4.8%, ES = 1.51), ICW (5%, ES = 1.68), and PhA (10.4%, ES = 6.64). The results showed that the water parameters improved over time, which led to healthy hydration statuses. The training load structure provided sufficient stimulus for appropriate physical fitness development, without causing negative disturbances in the water compartments.Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P., Grant/Award Number UIDP/04748/202

Fuga mundi na relação entre igreja e mundo:

    Get PDF

In-season internal load and wellness variations in professional women soccer players: comparisons between playing positions and status

    Get PDF
The internal intensity monitoring in soccer has been used more in recent years in men's football, however, in women's soccer, the existing literature is still scarce. The aims of this study were threefold: (a) to describe the weekly variations of training monotony (Foster, 1998), training strain and acute:chronic workload ratio (Murray et al., 2017) through session Rated Perceived Exertion (s-RPE); (b) to describe weekly variations of Hooper Index [stress, fatigue, Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS) and sleep] (Hooper & Mackinnon, 1995); and (c) to compare those variations between playing positions and player status. Nineteen players (24.1±2.7 years) from a Portuguese BPI League professional team participated in this study. All variables were collected in a 10-week in-season period with 3 training sessions and 1 match per week during the 2019/20 season. Considering the overall team, the results showed that there were some associations between Hooper Index categories and s-RPE like stress or fatigue (0.693, p<0.01), stress or DOMS (0.593, p<0.01), stress or s-RPE (-0.516, p<0.05) and fatigue or DOMS (0.688, p<0.01). There were no differences between all parameters in playing positions or player status. In conclusion, the study revealed that higher levels of fatigue and DOMS occurs concurrently with better nights of sleep. Moreover, any in-season variations concerning internal load and perceived wellness seems independent of position or status in outfield players. Also, the data showed that the higher the players’ reported stress, the lower the observed s-RPE, thus possible indicating a mutual interference of experienced stress levels on the assimilation of training intensity by women elite soccer players.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Get PDF
Introduction: The time that adolescents spend in front of some screen as TV, computer, video games and mobile phones, has been considered a risk factor for obesity and non-communicable chronic diseases. Objective: To analyze the effectiveness of two types of low impact training on the screen time and the BMI of overweight adolescents. Methods: Sixty-seven adolescents were allocated into three groups: control group (CG); hydrogimnastic (HG); and jump (JG). The three groups had a weekly session of nutritional guidance; Additionally, the HG and JG trained 12 weeks with three weekly sessions ranging between 24 and 32 minutes as stage periodization training with hydrogimnastic and jump, respectively. Anthropometric measurements were performed, and screen time through a questionnaire created for this study in order to identify the amount of hours that adolescents passed in front of a screen. The questionnaire was carried out before and after the training period, as well as anthropometric assessments. Results: There was no difference pre and post-intervention in screen time for the three groups, however, there was a decrease in BMI in both exercise groups of the pre-training period for post-training.Conclusion: There was no reduction of the screen time, however the BMI decreased in the exercise groups
