Patient Satisfaction in the Spanish National Health Service: Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling

The aim of this article was to determine which key indicators influence patient satisfaction with the Spanish NHS to provide useful information for policy decision-making. A total of 33 variables for each of the 17 Spanish autonomous communities were collected from the statistical portal of the Spanish Ministry of Health, Social Services, and Equality between 2005 and 2016. A cross-sectional study was applied using Partial Least Squares to a Structural Equation Model (PLS-SEM). The influence of expenditures, resource allocation, and safety were hypothesized about patient satisfaction. Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and life expectancy were used as control variables. Moreover, the influence of resource allocation on use was tested. The model explained 57.1% of patient satisfaction with the Spanish NHS. It was positively influenced mainly by resource allocation and expenditures, followed by safety and life expectancy. Additionally, resources directly influenced the level of use. The number of hospital beds, hemodialysis equipment, rate of adverse drug reactions, and expenditure positively influenced patient satisfaction. In contrast, the number of posts in day hospitals, the hospital infection rate, and the percentage of pharmacy spending negatively influenced patient satisfaction

La carpología, el estudio de los frutos, semillas, tubérculos, rizomas y bulbos recuperados en yacimientos arqueológicos, ha sido aplicada mayoritariamente a contextos correspondientes a sociedades productoras, mientras que los estudios carpológicos de yacimientos de cazadores-recolectores son escasos. En los últimos años, estos han experimentado un incremento, desvelándose el valor de la información que proporcionan: económica, cultural, botánica y ecológica. Presentamos en este artículo la metodología aplicada para el análisis carpológico de un conjunto de muestras procedentes de un nivel fechado en el Magdaleniense medio de la Cova de les Cendres (Teulada-Moraira, Alicante)

Evolution of the Field of Social Media Research through Science Maps (2008-2017)

The objectives of this work were to discover the main points of interest in the field of research on Social Media, within the scientific area of Communication, and to analyse how it has evolved. A methodology based on the analysis of co-words and visualisation techniques was applied. The data was obtained from scientific publications indexed in the Web of Science (WoS) database, during the periods 2008-2012 and 2013-2017. The resulting maps showed that, during the period 2008-2012, the main areas of interest were web 2.0 and the internet in terms of social networking sites. However, during the period 2013-2017, there was a strong upward trend in the impact of social networks and platforms, especially Twitter and Facebook, in many areas (such as social movements, public relations and publicity, distribution of content, crisis communication, participatory journalism, political communication, or the configuration of public identities through social platforms, with special emphasis on youth). Finally, new scientific challenges were found in automatic analysis of content and management of big data. In conclusion, it was possible to transform a complex, underlying, dynamic and multidimensional reality into visible representations that could help experts in the field to better understand the evolution of research on Social Media

¿Hacia una bioética global? A propósito de la propuesta de V. R. POTTER

The oncologist V. R. Potter set out the need to connect experimental and spiritual sciences by building a bridge between them (Bioethics) in order to favour the creation of a new culture for future survival. This proposal aroused great interest within the field of Medicine, in which medical Bioethics has widely developed. Some years later, Potter stressed again the need to widen the scope of Bioethics until achieving a Global Bioethics, according to his initial proposal. En alemán:Der Onkologe V. R. Potter schlug vor, die empirischen Wissenschaften und die Geisteswissenschaften unter einem Dach (Bioethik) zusammenzuführen. Sein Ziel war es, die Entstehung einer neue Kultur des Überlebens zu fördern. Dieser Vorschag stieß auf breite Anerkennung in der Medizin, in welcher sich die medizinische Bioethik umfassend entwickelt hat. Jahre später drang Potter erneut darauf, den Einflussbereich der Bioethik zu erweitern. Dabei folgte er seinem ursprünglichem Vorschlag, bis er es erreichte, ihn mit den Inhalten einer globalen Bioethik zu füllen
