Input cost, capacity utilization and substitution in the short run

This article studies the behavior of input cost shares in an environment where labor is costly to adjust, materials can be adjusted at no cost and capital is fixed. A model relating cost shares with relative prices and adjustment costs is proposed, allowing joint estimation of the elasticity of substitution and the adjustment cost function, which is an unknown function of the utilization capacity. Based on a panel of more than 700 manufacturing firms, we find evidence of strong input share variations according to the degree of capacity utilization. The estimated shapes of adjustment costs curves of labor are in agreement with our theoretical model, and we obtain sensible elasticities of substitution estimates. Based on such estimates, we find evidence of a negative (positive) bias in downturns (recoveries) in conventional productivity growth measures

Valoración y salida a bolsa de las sociedades anónimas deportivas españolas. Análisis comparativo con el caso inglés

La necesidad de grandes sumas de dinero por parte de las SAD (básicamente clubes de fútbol) conlleva que éstas se planteen el financiarse en la Bolsa de valores como una opción más para conseguir la liquidez necesaria que les permita realizar nuevas inversiones, tanto en jugadores como en inmovilizado. Y los inversionistas parecen dispuestos a entregarles dinero a cambio de acciones, por considerar que el fútbol tiene un porvenir económico rentable y porque la participación en la Bolsa obliga a los clubes a efectuar un enorme cambio en sus estructuras financieras, haciendo que sus operaciones económicas sean más transparentes y estén sometidas a más controles. Pero la rentabilidad de una SAD no está sólo vinculada a los tradicionales criterios racionales (económico-financieros), sino también a criterios “pasionales” (sentimientos de pertenencia a un grupo, valores intangibles, etc.) Esta circunstancia se refleja en una mayor prima de riesgo, de forma que la valoración en Bolsa de los clubes es inferior a la de cualquier otro sector con similares expectativas de beneficios, obligando a los clubes a diversificar este riesgo, sobretodo cuando las expectativas de beneficio se han corregido a la baja por la experiencia vivida en otros mercados donde ya cotizan estos valores

La necessitat de grans sumes de diners per part de les SAE (bàsicament clubs de futbol) comporta que aquestes es plantegin finançar-se a la Borsa de valors com una opció més per aconseguir la liquiditat necessària que els permeti de realitzar noves inversions, tant en jugadors com en immobilitzat. I els inversionistes semblen disposats a lliurar-los diners a canvi d’accions, perquè consideren que el futbol té un esdevenidor econòmic rendible i perquè la participació en Borsa obliga els clubs a efectuar un enorme canvi en les seves estructures financeres, i a fer que les seves operacions econòmiques siguin més transparents i estiguin sotmeses a més controls. Però la rendibilitat d’una SAE no es troba vinculada només als tradicionals criteris racionals (economicofinancers), sinó també a criteris “passionals” (sentiments de pertinença a un grup, valors intangibles, etc.) Aquesta circumstància es reflecteix en una major prima de risc, de manera que la valoració en Borsa dels clubs és inferior a la de qualsevol altre sector amb similars expectatives de beneficis, tot obligant els clubs a diversificar aquest risc, sobretot quan les expectatives de benefici s’han corregit a la baixa per l’experiència viscuda en altres mercats on ja cotitzen aquests valors

Camp de futbol a Corbera de Llobregat

El projecte consisteix en la recuperació de l'espai d’una antiga pedrera de guix que els últims anys s'ha destinat a abocador municipal. En aquest espai s'hi ubicarà el nou camp de futbol del Corbera de Llobregat. Aquest exercici es projecta amb la intenció d’integrar l’entorn paisatgístic actual per a que englobi activitats esportives i formi una unitat territorial en un terreny que va ser molt explotat en el passat. La implantació dels nous usos son: un camp de futbol (amb un edifici de vestidors i grades amb marquesina per a 250 espectadors), una zona esportiva, i aparcaments públics per a l’equipament

Las webquests en el ámbito universitario español

Este artículo indaga en el uso, difusión y percepción de la que gozan en la universidad española las WebQuests (WQ), una metodología cuyo interés se ha visto renovado a partir de la instauración del Espacio Europeo de Educación Superior (EEES) y del sistema de enseñanza por competencias. Entre otros aspectos, el artículo hace un repaso de los hallazgos más relevantes acerca del impacto de la implementación de WQ en diferentes áreas de conocimiento de la enseñanza superior, considerando los datos aportados por la investigación internacional como del ámbito español. La revisión teórica se complementa con el resumen de los resultados obtenidos a partir de dos encuestas. La primera, destinada a los organismos universitarios con competencias en la formación del PDI, sondea el papel de estos órganos en la formación para la integración metodológica de las TIC en la enseñanza universitaria y, en particular, en la difusión de la metodología WQ. La segunda encuesta recoge la opinión de un grupo de expertos con la finalidad de conocer, entre otros aspectos, sus impresiones acerca de las ventajas y desventajas del método, así como la recepción que tiene por parte del alumnado y la conveniencia de su uso en relación con la implementación del EEES

Entry, exit and productivity growth: Spanish manufacturing during the eighties

A GMM panel estimation of the determinants of corrected Solow residual for 75 manufacturing during 1979–1990, shows that these forces accounted for 80% of productivity growth, playing an important role the displacement of inefficient firms by competitive entry.Publicad

Angular displacement and velocity sensors based on electric-LC (ELC) loaded microstrip lines

Planar microwave angular displacement and angular velocity sensors implemented in microstrip technology are proposed. The transducer element is a circularly shaped divider/combiner, whereas the sensing element is an electricLC resonator, attached to the rotating object and magnetically coupled to the circular (active) region of the transducer. The angular variables are measured by inspection of the transmission characteristics, which are modulated by the magnetic coupling between the resonator and the divider/combiner. The degree of coupling is hence sensitive to the angular position of the resonator. As compared with coplanar waveguide angular displacement and velocity sensors, the proposed microstrip sensors do not require air bridges, and the ground plane provides backside isolation

Application of RF-MEMS-Based Split Ring Resonators (SRRs) to the Implementation of Reconfigurable Stopband Filters : a Review

In this review paper, several strategies for the implementation of reconfigurable split ring resonators (SRRs) based on RF-MEMS switches are presented. Essentially three types of RF-MEMS combined with split rings are considered: (i) bridge-type RF-MEMS on top of complementary split ring resonators CSRRs; (ii) cantilever-type RF-MEMS on top of SRRs; and (iii) cantilever-type RF-MEMS integrated with SRRs (or RF-MEMS SRRs). Advantages and limitations of these different configurations from the point of view of their potential applications for reconfigurable stopband filter design are discussed, and several prototype devices are presented

Mechanically reconfigurable microstrip lines loaded with stepped impedance resonators and potential applications

This paper is focused on exploring the possibilities and potential applications of microstrip transmission lines loaded with stepped impedance resonators (SIRs) etched on top of the signal strip, in a separated substrate. It is shown that if the symmetry plane of the line (a magnetic wall) is perfectly aligned with the electric wall of the SIR at the fundamental resonance, the line is transparent. However, if symmetry is somehow ruptured, a notch in the transmission coefficient appears. The notch frequency and depth can thus be mechanically controlled, and this property can be of interest for the implementation of sensors and barcodes, as it is discussed
