The article contains the reflection on four texts of Ewa Lipska, written in association with Zbigniew Preisner. The discussed works belong to a genre of a literary carol and as a result they have been included in the republication of the album W poszukiwaniu dróg  [Searching for the paths ] Therefore, a new area of poetics activity of Lipska appears. The authoress of Sefer  makes use of stylization, deforming a specified pattern and thereby revaluating the tradition of a carol. The scrutinised texts were designed as being ready for the musical performance, emphasising Lipska’s interest in the song genre. The article concerns the idea of the subject’s evolution in the poetry of Ewa Lipska. The article presents the unexplored path of subjectivity’s development in selected poems by this Cracovian poet. The main research concept regards the interpretation of particular poems from the perspective of current philosophical problems, connected with posthumanism, which is understood here as the ability to go beyond the bounds of humanism, a revision of previous humanistic assumptions. “A connoisseur of love songs / and ripe cherries” – on the Sung Poems of Ewa Lipska

The article focuses on a niche (in the context of reception) aspect of Ewa Lipska’s work, namely the formation of the genre of the song on the basis of the literary output of the author associated mainly with high art, which includes poetry. The introduction (quotation and analysis of relevant theoretical texts) introduces the reader into the world of filiation between a poem and a song. The main part of the paper contains interpretations of selected works by Ewa Lipska which were used as song lyrics by such artists as Grzegorz Turnau or Anna Szałapak. In this article the author attempts to destabilise the notion of “sung poetry”, weakening also the stereotypes (connected with arbitrary assigning it only to intellectual poetry) growing around Ewa Lipska’s works. W części głównej dokonywane są interpretacje poszczególnych utworów Ewy Lipskiej, które posłużyły niegdyś jako teksty do piosenek takim artystom, jak chociażby Grzegorz Turnau czy Anna Szałapak. Regional diversification of financial situation of the horticultural farms in European Union countries

PURPOSE: This article aims to identify the financial situation of the horticultural farms in Poland compared to their counterparts in other European Union countries in 2012-2017 in the synthetic context.DESIGN/METHODOLOGY/APPROACH: To achieve this purpose, the data from the FADN database on horticultural farms from macro-regions in EU countries in 2012-2017 were used. To assess the financial situation, a synthetic measuring instrument of development was used, and the non-pattern method was employed to construct it.FINDINGS: The results of the conducted research show that the horticultural farms are characterised by differentiation of economic effects. These results affect their financial situation, which in turn determines their possibility of further market development, that is the economic safety of farm families, as well as the supply safety of food consumers.PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS: Obtained studies results can be used by EU agricultural policymakers and the horticultural farm owners. The results indicate in which regions the horticultural farms have more development opportunities and in which the economic safety of farm families is in danger.ORIGINALITY/VALUE: The results of the conducted analysis are complementary to the previous studies on the financial situation of the horticultural farms. Reveos system - an Alternative in Pooled Platelet Concentrate Production

Wstęp: Szerokie zastosowanie koncentratów krwinek płytkowych (KKP) w medycynie sprawiło, że istnieje duże zainteresowanie tymi składnikami zarówno wśród lekarzy, pracowników Regionalnych Centrów Krwiodawstwa i Krwiolecznictwa, szczególnie przygotowujących KKP, jak i instytucji opracowujących i wdrażających nowe metody ich otrzymywania. Celem niniejszej pracy jest zaprezentowanie parametrów ilościowych i jakościowych zlewanych ubogoleukocytarnych koncentratów krwinek płytkowych (zl. UKKP) uzyskanych z tymczasowych koncentratów krwinek płytkowych (TKKP, IPU,interim platelet unit) za pomocą systemu Reveos oraz ich porównanie ze składnikami otrzymywanymi z kożuszków leukocytarno-płytkowych metodą manualną i za pomocą systemu OrbiSac. Materiał i metody: Każdą z 3 metod uzyskano 12 zl. UKKP zawieszonych w osoczu i 12 zl. UKKP zawieszonych w roztworze wzbogacającym (RW). Zlewane ubogoleukocytarne koncentraty krwinek płytkowych otrzymywano zależnie od metody z 5 kożuszków leukocytarno- -płytkowych lub TKKP. Ocenie poddano objętość, liczbę krwinek płytkowych, liczbę leukocytów i wartość pH uzyskanych UKKP. Wyniki: Wartość hematokrytu kożuszków leukocytarno-płytkowych wynosiła 55,3 ± 3,8%. Charakteryzowały się one o ponad 60% większą średnią objętością od średniej objętości TKKP. Nie wykazano istotnych statystycznie różnic w liczbie płytek pomiędzy kożuszkami leukocytarno-płytkowymi a TKKP, zarówno w przypadku wartości zmierzonych, jak i oszacowanych przez urządzenie Reveos. Współczynnik korelacji (0,91) wskazuje na silną dodatnią korelację pomiędzy wskazaniami urządzenia a oznaczoną liczbą krwinek płytkowych. Wszystkie składniki po filtracji zawierały poniżej 1 × 106 leukocytów/preparat. Można je zakwalifikować jako składniki ubogoleukocytarne. Wartość pH w piątym dniu przechowywania zl. UKKP w każdym składniku wynosiła pomiędzy 7,1 a 7,4. Wnioski: Zlewane ubogoleukocytarne koncentraty krwinek płytkowych przygotowane z wykorzystaniem TKKP za pomocą systemu Reveos nie różnią się od składników przygotowanych innymi metodami. System Reveos jest dobrą alternatywą dla klasycznych metod pozyskiwania zl. UKKP, a nawet w przypadku wykorzystania możliwości selekcji TKKP pomaga usprawnić przygotowanie składników.Introduction: Due to broad application of platelet concentrates in medicine there is growing interest in those products among specialists in transfusion medicine, employees of the Regional Blood Transfusion Centres as well as institutions that develop and implement new methods of obtaining platelet concentrates. The objective of this work is to present the quantitative and qualitative parameters of leukoreduced pooled platelet concentrates obtained from interim platelet units (IPU) by use of the Reveos system and their comparison with products obtained from buffy coats manually and by use of the OrbiSac system. Material and methods: Each of the 3 methods was used to obtain 12 platelet concentrates in plasma and 12 platelet concentrates in platelet additive solution (PAS). Platelet concentrates were obtained, depending on the method, using 5 buffy coats or 5 IPU. The parameters addressed were: volume, platelet count, leukocyte count and pH value of the platelet concentrates obtained. Results: The value of buffy coat haematocrit was 55.3 ± 3.8%. Their average volume was over 60% higher than the average IPU volume. There were no statistically significant differences in the platelet count between buffy coats and IPU, both in the case of measured values and values estimated by Reveos. The correlation coefficient (0.91) points to a strong positive correlation between device indications and the determined platelet count. After filtration all the products contained less than 1 × 106 of leucocytes/unit. They may be qualified as leukoreduced products. pH on the fifth day of platelet concentrates storage in every product was between 7.1–7.4. Conclusions: LPC (leukocytereduced platelet concentrate) prepared with the use of IPU from Reveos are not different from products prepared by use of other methods. The Reveos system is a good alternative for the standard methods of LPC production, and moreover, with the use of IPU selection, the preparation process is improved

Transferase S-glutathione class p gene (GSTP1) polymorphism in thyroid cancer patients

Wstęp: Jednym z potencjalnych genów zwiększających ryzyko zachorowania na niektóre nowotwory jest gen GSTP1 kodujący enzym szlaku detoksykacyjnego transferazę S-glutationu klasy &#960;. Polimorfizmy w obrębie tego genu mogą prowadzić do substytucji aminokwasów, co wpływa na strukturę centrum aktywnego enzymu i zmienia aktywność katalityczną wobec części substancji kancerogennych. Niewłaściwe działanie szlaku utylizacji substancji szkodliwych przekłada się bezpośrednio na zwiększenie liczby czynników oddziałujących z DNA i prowadzących do mutacji, co może zapoczątkowywać onkogenezę. Cel: Celem pracy była analiza dwóch polimorfizmów genu transferazy S-glutationu (GSTP1) pod względem ich asocjacji z występowaniem raka zróżnicowanego tarczycy (DTC, differentiated thyroid cancer). Dodatkowo przeprowadzono analizę wpływu badanych polimorfizmów na wiek rozpoznania choroby. Materiał i metody: Badania przeprowadzono u 156 osób. Grupę kontrolną stanowiły 53 zdrowe osoby, a grupę badaną - 103 osoby ze zdiagnozowanym DTC. Genotypowanie przeprowadzono za pomocą metody PCR&#8211;RFLP (polymerase chain reaction&#8211;restriction fragment length polymorphism). Wyniki: W przypadku obu polimorfizmów nie wykazano znamiennej statystycznie asocjacji z występowaniem raka tarczycy. Porównano częstości alleli oraz wyznaczono potencjalne allele ryzyka. Dla polimorfizmu c.313A>G był to allel Ile, OR = 1,257; 95% CI [0,792&#8211;1,997] (p = 0,332); dla polimorfizmu c.341C>T allel Val, OR = 1,283; 95% CI [0,6260&#8211;2,631] (p = 0,495). Przy korelacji wieku rozpoznania choroby z określonymi genotypami w grupie chorych wykazano znamienną statystycznie asocjację genotypu Val/Val (polimorfizm c.313A>G) z wcześniejszym wiekiem rozpoznania choroby (41,1 &plusmn; 15,2 w porównaniu z genotypami Ile/Val + Val/Val 48,9 &plusmn; 13,2 [p < 0,05]). Nie stwierdzono takiej asocjacji dla polimorfizmu c.341C>T. Wnioski: Nie można stwierdzić znamiennej statystycznie asocjacji polimorfizmów GSTP1 z występowaniem raka tarczycy w badanej grupie, natomiast obecność genotypu Val/Val (polimorfizm c.313A>G) wiąże się z wcześniejszym wystąpieniem choroby.Introduction: One of the potential genes which can increase the risk of cancer is GSTP1 gene. It encodes enzyme called glutathione S-transferase &#960; class, which is involved in the detoxification of a variety of potential carcinogenic compounds. Polymorphism in this gene can cause the amino acid substitution. This substitution, close to the substrate binding site, changes the enzymatic activity for particular substrates and subsequently increases the risk of carcinogenesis. The aim of this study was to evaluate the function of GSTP1 polymorphism in thyroid cancer and possible association between GSTP1 polymorphism and age at diagnosis. Material and methods: 103 patients with differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) and 53 individuals from control group were examined using PCR&#8211;RFLP. Results: Statistically insignificant association of studied polymorphisms with thyroid cancer was observed. Comparison of allele frequency between cases and control groups revealed the presence of risk alleles. For the first polymorphism Ile OR = 1.257; 95% CI [0.792&#8211;1.997] (p = 0.332), and for the second one Val OR = 1.283; 95% CI [0.6260&#8211;2.631] (p = 0.495). The presence of Val/Val (c.313A>G) led to a significant earlier age of onset as compared with other genotypes (p < 0.05). Mean age at diagnosis for Val/Val genotype was 41.1 &plusmn; 15.2, and for Ile/Val + Ile/Ile reached 48.9 &plusmn; 13.2. There was no association between age and genotype for c.341C>T polymorphism. Conclusions: Statistically insignificant association of GSTP1 gene polymorphism with thyroid cancer was observed in studied group of patients. The Val/Val genotype for c.313A>G polymorphism led to earlier age of tumour diagnosis as compared with other genotypes

Temperature (latitude) and nutrient (seabird guano) effects on limno-terrestrial Tardigrada (Testechiniscus spitsbergensis and Pilatobius recamieri) body size

Surveys of terrestrial microinvertebrate morphometry, especially spatial patterns of body size at wider geographical scales, including the polar regions, are very scarce. In this study, we focused on Tardigrada, common limno-terrestrial microinvertebrates. Considering Bergmann’s rule, originally formulated for endothermic animals, we tested the hypothesis that body length of limno-terrestrial tardigrades augments with increasing latitude and decreasing temperature. Since some of our sampling areas adjoined seabird colonies, we also explored the effects of nutrients from seabird guano deposits. Individual body length of Testechiniscus spitsbergensis was measured in populations obtained from seven localities distributed along a latitudinal gradient extending from 45^{\circ}N (northern Italy) to 79^{\circ}N (northern Svalbard), and for Pilatobius recamieri from three localities in Svalbard (77^{\circ}N-80^{\circ}N). Considering both latitude and proximity to a seabird colony there were significant effects of locality on the body length of T. spitsbergensis; however, no clear pattern of increasing individual body size with increasing latitude could be detected. Immense differences in body size may be a signal for cryptic species diversity within this genus. No effect of latitude, or proximity to a seabird colony, on the body length of Arctic populations of P. recamieri was documented. Evidently, there is no tendency towards body size increase along the latitudinal gradient in either T. spitsbergensis or P. recamieri. Our study, and recent literature, indicates that larger body size in polar regions reported for several groups of micro-fauna may be a taxon-dependent response, and cannot be taken as a universally applicable rule for limnoterrestrial animals

System Reveos w świetle innych metod rozdziału krwi pełnej na składniki – porównanie badań kontroli jakości

Background One of the elements that makes up blood safety is automation of processing whole blood into ingredients In 2017, Reveos was installed in Blood Bank in Lodz. By combining the centrifuge function and the press, Reveos provides full automation of the whole blood separation process, minimizing the risk of human error, thus ensuring accuracy and repeatability. The aim is to compare the results of the quality control of ingredients obtained after the blood separation using the Compomat G5, Optipress II and the Reveos system as well as to compare the level of compliance with the recommendations on the quality of blood components contained in the applicable regulations. Materials and methods 150 units were separated into ingredients using above mentioned systems showing choosen parameters. Results Parameters were determined for Compomat, Optipress i Reveos: plasma: volume 260±13ml, 262±14ml i 239±20ml, platelets: 16, 23 i 23x109/l. RBC: volume 286±13ml, 272±13ml i 295±17ml, hemoglobin 55, 51, 58g/unit., hematocrit 59, 58 i 52%, leukocytes 0,6x109/unit., 0,6x109/unit., 0,1x106/unit. Buffy coat volume: 56,6ml i 56,1ml for Compomat i Optipress and interim platelets volume 37,8ml. The platelet content in the above-mentioned components was 0.8, 0.7, 0.66x1011/unit, respectively. Conclusions The comparison of the quality of ingredients after the blood separation showed slight differences in the parameters determined. The main difference concerns the volume of the obtained plasma and red blood cells. Nevertheless, all the ingredients obtained meet rigorous quality control assumptions and separation methods can be successfully used in routine work. The Reveos system allows to obtain qualitatively good ingredients in a one-step process. This reduces staff interference in the whole process, which may result in minimizing errors during processing of the whole blood.Wstęp. W 2017 roku w Regionalnym Centrum Krwiodawstwa i Krwiolecznictwa (RCKiK) w Łodzi wprowadzono system Reveos, który dzięki połączeniu funkcji wirówki i prasy zapewnia pełną automatyzację procesu rozdziału KPK, minimalizując ryzyko błędu ludzkiego, poprawiając tym samym dokładność i powtarzalność.Cel. Porównanie wyników kontroli jakości składników krwi otrzymanych po rozdziale KPK za pomocą pras Compomat G5 i Optipress II oraz systemu Reveos. Porównanie stopnia spełnienia zaleceń dotyczących jakości składników krwi zawartych w obowiązujących przepisach.Materiały i metody. Rozdzielono na składniki 150 jednostek KPK, wykorzystując w/w systemy, oznaczając wybrane parametry.Wyniki. Oznaczono odpowiednio dla Compomat, Optipress i Reveos parametry:— osocza: objętość (V) 260 ± 13 ml, 262 ± 14 ml i 239 ± 20 ml, krwinki płytkowe (PLT ×109/l): 16, 23 i 23 l, erytrocyty &lt; 6 × 106/l, leukocyty &lt; 0,1 × 109 l;— KKCz: objętość (V): 286 ± 13 ml, 272 ± 13 ml i 295 ± 17 ml, hemoglobina (Hb: g/jedn):55, 51, 58, hematokryt (Ht, %): 59, 58 i 52 leukocyty (WBCs × 109/jedn.) 0,6; 0,6; 0,1.— objętość kożuszków wynosiła (V) 56,6 ml i 56,1 ml dla Compomat i Optipress, a objętość TKKP (tymczasowy koncentrat krwinek płytkowych, IPU — Interim Platelet Unit) z systemu Reveos wynosiła 37,8 ml.— zawartość krwinek płytkowych w kożuszkach z pras i TKKP wynosiła odpowiednio 0,8, 0,7,0,66 × 1011/jedn.Wnioski. Porównanie jakości składników po rozdziale KPK wykazało niewielkie różnice w oznaczanych parametrach. Główna różnica dotyczy objętości otrzymanego osocza i KKCz/UKKCz. Pomimo tego wszystkie otrzymane składniki spełniały parametry kontroli jakości, a metody rozdziału z powodzeniem mogą być wykorzystywane w rutynowej pracy. System Reveos pozwala na uzyskanie jakościowo dobrych składników podczas jednoetapowego procesu. Zmniejsza to ingerencję personelu w cały proces, co może skutkować minimalizacją błędów podczas przetwarzania KPK

Tachykinin-related peptides modulate immune-gene expression in the mealworm beetle Tenebrio molitor L

In insects, tachykinin-related peptides (TRPs) are important modulators of several functions such as nociception and lipid metabolism. Recently, it has become clear that TRPs also play a role in regulating the insect immune system. Here, we report a transcriptomic analysis of changes in the expression levels of immune-related genes in the storage pest Tenebrio molitor after treatment with Tenmo-TRP-7. We tested two concentrations (10-8 and 10-6 M) at two time points, 6 and 24 h post-injection. We found significant changes in the transcript levels of a wide spectrum of immune-related genes. Some changes were observed 6 h after the injection of Tenmo-TRP-7, especially in relation to its putative anti-apoptotic action. Interestingly, 24 h after the injection of 10-8 M Tenmo-TRP-7, most changes were related to the regulation of the cellular response. Applying 10-6 M Tenmo-TRP-7 resulted in the downregulation of genes associated with humoral responses. Injecting Tenmo-TRP-7 did not affect beetle survival but led to a reduction in haemolymph lysozyme-like antibacterial activity, consistent with the transcriptomic data. The results confirmed the immunomodulatory role of TRP and shed new light on the functional homology between TRPs and TKs.Peer reviewe
