Both works included in the collection of humour books, El Club de la Sonrisa (The Smile Club), by the publishing house Taurus. This is about two unique works in the career of an author who was known, especially, for his task as a cartoonist. On the one hand, they cover this artist’s entire universe of emotions, on the other hand, to some extent, they can be considered part of those belonging to the humour of the Spanish literary generation El Otro 27. Every work will be analysed independently and in connection with the 50’s literary humour. Several conclusions will be drawn from this examination, such as the literary quality of Chumy Chúmez, comparable to other writers like Miguel Mihura or Rafael Azcon

Errors in algebraic statements translation during the creation of an algebraic domino

We present a research study which main objective is to inquire into secondary school students´ ability to translate and relate algebraic statements which are presented in the symbolic and verbal representation systems. Data collection was performed with 26 14-15 years old students to whom we proposed the creation of an algebraic domino, designed for this research, and its subsequent use in a tournament. Here we present an analysis of the errors made in such translations. Among the obtained results, we note that the students found easier to translate statements from the symbolic to the verbal representation and that most errors in translating from verbal to symbolic expressions where derived from the particular characteristics of algebraic language. Other types of errors are also identified. KEYWORDS: Algebraic language, domino, errors, translation between representation systems, verbal representation

Pomace Olive Oil Concentrated in Triterpenic Acids Restores Vascular Function, Glucose Tolerance and Obesity Progression in Mice

Pomace olive oil, an olive oil sub-product, is a promising source of bioactive triterpenoids such as oleanolic acid and maslinic acid. Considering the vascular actions of pomace olive oil and the potential effects of the isolated oleanolic acid on metabolic complications of obesity, this study investigates for the first time the dietary intervention with a pomace olive oil with high concentrations of the triterpenic acids (POCTA), oleanolic and maslinic acid, during diet-induced obesity in mice. The results demonstrate that obese mice, when switched to a POCTA-diet for 10 weeks, show a substantial reduction of body weight, insulin resistance, adipose tissue inflammation, and particularly, improvement of vascular function despite high caloric intake. This study reveals the potential of a functional food based on pomace olive oil and its triterpenic fraction against obesity progression. Society instils stereotype that incite inequality gender. Nowadays, mens are still been above womens. This is possible because society is patriarchal. This society model appears in videogames destined to children. This work is based in a study and in a analysis of games and childish applications from Play Store. This analysis consist in verify that contents of theese games and applications are appropriate for children who are from one to six years old, although there are some videogames destined to children who are twelve years olds. This investigation consists in a description of games and childish applications and comparative tables, where typical characteristics are detailed. After that, an analysis is made about inappropriate contents as sexism, verbal and physical violence and a bad use of language. As well as appropriate contents as integration gender in virtual games, educational themes and a good use of language. Many issues are raised when authors set their stories in the past. First and foremost there is the balance that must be kept between the responsibility owed to historical truth and the need to write a story which in its emotional and narrative truth engages the modem reader. (Collins 2001: v

Factors related to the voluntary interruption of pregnancy in Spain

    Get PDF
Introduction: The voluntary interruption of pregnancy (VIP) is a complex process, influenced both by health and psychosocial factors, which in turn affect the health and well-being of the women. The objective of this study is to describe the characteristics of repeat VIPs in Spain. Methods: Cross-sectional study of the VIP episodes carried out at the request of the women themselves in Spain during 2018. The factors related to repeat VIPs are described according to the origin of the women, estimating the crude and adjusted prevalence odds ratio (OR). Results: The highest rates of VIP occurred in women aged 20 to 24 years. The probability of a second VIP, both in Spanish women and those of foreign origin, increased with age, with the size of the population (> 50,000 inhabitants), and with dependent children. Conclusions: According to the data from our study, knowing the factors related to the recurrence of voluntary interruptions of pregnancy allows us to draw up more effective and specific strategies for promoting safe and accessible sexual and reproductive health

Prolonged quiescence delays somatic stem cell-like divisions in Caenorhabditis elegans and is controlled by insulin signaling

Cells can enter quiescence in adverse conditions and resume proliferation when the environment becomes favorable. Prolonged quiescence comes with a cost, reducing the subsequent speed and potential to return to proliferation. Here, we show that a similar process happens during Caenorhabditis elegans development, providing an in vivo model to study proliferative capacity after quiescence. Hatching under starvation provokes the arrest of blast cell divisions that normally take place during the first larval stage (L1). We have used a novel method to precisely quantify each stage of postembryonic development to analyze the consequences of prolonged L1 quiescence. We report that prolonged L1 quiescence delays the reactivation of blast cell divisions in C. elegans, leading to a delay in the initiation of postembryonic development. The transcription factor DAF‐16/FOXO is necessary for rapid recovery after extended arrest, and this effect is independent from its role as a suppressor of cell proliferation. Instead, the activation of DAF‐16 by decreased insulin signaling reduces the rate of L1 aging, increasing proliferative potential. We also show that yolk provisioning affects the proliferative potential after L1 arrest modulating the rate of L1 aging, providing a possible mechanistic link between insulin signaling and the maintenance of proliferative potential. Furthermore, variable yolk provisioning in embryos is one of the sources of interindividual variability in recovery after quiescence of genetically identical animals. Our results support the relevance of L1 arrest as an in vivo model to study stem cell‐like aging and the mechanisms for maintenance of proliferation potential after quiescence.Spanish Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad (BFU2016-74949-P and BFU2012- 35509)European Research Council (ERC-2011-StG-281691)Marie-Curie Intra-European Fellowship (FP7-PEOPLE-2013- IEF/GA Nr: 627263

Every Educational System plays a crucial role in every society. Consequently, Educational Systems have continously been making attempts to adapt theirselves to their societies' new necessities and the evolution and development of knowledge. This dissertation intends to provide a reflection on how autonomous learning and cooperative work could supply some of our society's and students' needs. In this context, students should be guided to raise awareness on their own learning styles in order to empower them with those learning strategies that suit them best. This would have a possitive impact on students' motivation and self-efficacy, allowing cooperative work to take place and become the most powerful learning tool
