A study on the management planning of Public Forest in Tana Toraja Regency was implemented with the aim of establishing a concept for forest product regulation in order to attain an optimum result and benefits in the interest of the owners and regional development. As the result, the public forest that located on 10 districts in Tana Toraja Regency can be organized into four Management Units. By an appropriate management treatments, every management unit can present an adequate and sustainable quantity of raw material for wood processing industries in this region. Keywords: Management Planning, Public Forest, Yield Sustainability, Management Unit, and Annual Allowable Cu

A study on the contribution of community forest to the community income in Tana Toraja Regency was implemented with the aim of identifying the community forest contribution to owners income and formulating the effort that can be carried out for enhancing the contribution. As the result, the community forest contribution to owners income is still very low (2.94% in average). Based on analysis result, the potencial revenue of community forest farming in Tana Toraja Regency can be 2.3 larger than the present obtaining revenue. The mentioned potencial revenue can be more increased by developing a more proportional allocation of the revenue to the related farmers (related communities) Key words : Community forest, contribution, community income, forest product and benefi

Growth modeling and yield simulation of forest is a very important aspect in forest management including community forests. Stand growth model is an abstraction of the dynamic nature of a forest stand, including growth, ingrowths, mortality, and other changes in the structure and composition of the stand. In forest management, growth estimation plays an important role in supporting the sustainability of the benefits value of the community forests. The objectives of the research were to find out the stand growth model and the potential of community's pine forest. The study was conducted at the location of the community pine forests in District Mengkendek Tana Toraja Regency. Sample location, as representative of stand age classes that distribute on some villages in Mengkendek District, were selected by purposive sampling. The study results indicate that the most suitable model for upper trees mean height (H) is Weibull Model, for growth diameter and growth volume is Logistic Model  . The stand mean height (h) can be presented as a function of H and Relative Spacing Ratio (Sr) on the basis of function log Sr = 0,197 – 0,653 log H, then the tree volume, can be estimated on the basis of function log V = -1,70 + 0,94logD + 1,50logh, and then the growth function of volume on the basis of function V = 1.008 / 1 + 251.322 exp(-0.373t. Further, the maximum value of stand Annual Increment was 18 m3ha-1year-1, attained at the age of 20 years

Effectiveness of Pine Stands in Control Surface Runoff

    Get PDF
This study aims to determine the effectiveness of Pine stands in controlling surface runoff, as well as the relationship between rainfall, intensity and slope with the volume of surface runoff. This study was conducted from November 2016 to February 2017. The measurement of rainfall is done by using rainfall observatory on 40 rain events, measuring the volume of surface runoff at each rainfall event, on a plot measuring 22 m x 4 m. The runoff volume on the dense pine cover was 0.006 m3, smaller than the medium and rare pine cover, ie 0.015 m3 and 0.016 m3 respectively. This shows that pine stands can minimize the impact of rainfall, rainfall intensity, and slope on the amount of surface runoff

-The research aimed at developing management model of the management unit of Business License of the Utility of the Wood Forest Product of the Public Plant Forests of the autonomous pattern. The research was conducted at Bacu-Bacu Village, Barru Regency from January to August 2011. Data were collected though an observation, an interview, a documentation study, and FGD. Biophysic homogeneity analysis, homogenity analysis of plant types, and bare land value analysis were carried out achieve the research objective. The research produces the management model of Business License of the Utility of the Wood Forest Product of the Public Plant Forests, i.e. the area as wide as 15 ha is arranged to become 15 management forest beds, and each forest bed is divided into four sub-forest beds with the same size i.e. 0.25 ha. The model silviculture prescription is to integrate the plant types of sengon (Paraserianthes falcataria L. Nelson), jabon (Anthocephalus macrophyllus), acacia (Acacia mangium), and mahogany (Swietania mahagoni) with the peanut plant (Arachis hypogeae) in a management unit, in which each plant type is managed in the sub forest beds. The model uses the multiple rotation system. The bare land value of the model is as much as Rp.1,718,330,252.64 for the management in 60 years

One of the causes of global climate change is the increase of carbon dioxide content in the atmosphere. Trees have a role to absorb carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere for photosynthesis. Trees absorb carbon dioxide (CO2) through photosynthesis, which result is carbohydrate that is stored in form of biomass that contains carbon. City forest of government offices is one of areas to grow trees. Diameter of breast height was measured to find out the potential of biomass and carbon storage of trees in the city forest in the office of Governor of South Sulawesi. This measurement is conducted using  census method that measured standing trees with minimum DBH of 5 cm.  The results found that there are 193.71 trees per hecto are with Biomass potency is 1,436.84 tonnes which the average of biomass is 0.97 tonnes for each tree, and Carbon storage is 718.42 tonnes with the average of carbon storage is 0.49 tonnes for every tre
