    QCD sum rules for the anti-charmed pentaquark

    We present a QCD sum rule analysis for the anti-charmed pentaquark state with and without strangeness. While the sum rules for most of the currents are either non-convergent or dominated by the DNDN continuum, the one for the non-strange pentaquark current composed of two diquarks and an antiquark, is convergent and has a structure consistent with a positive parity pentaquark state after subtracting out the DNDN continuum contribution. Arguments are presented on the similarity between the result of the present analysis and that based on the constituent quark models, which predict a more stable pentaquark states when the antiquark is heavy.Comment: 19 pages, 8 figures, REVTex, revised version,new figures added and references update

    Transplantation of embryonic spleen tissue reveals a role for adult non-lymphoid cells in initiating lymphoid tissue organization

    In this report we describe a transplantation system where embryonic spleens are grafted into adult hosts. This model can be used to analyze the cellular and molecular requirements for the development and organization of splenic microenvironments.Whole embryonic day 15 (ED15) spleens, grafted under the kidney capsule of adult mice, were colonized by host-derived lymphocytes and DC and developed normal splenic architecture. Grafts were also able to form germinal centers in response to T-dependent antigen. Using this system we demonstrated that adult host-derived lymphotoxin (LT) a was sufficient for the development of ED15 LTa/ grafts. Grafting of ED15 LTa/ spleens into RAG/ hosts followed by transfer of LT a/ splenocytes revealed no requirement for lymphocyte-derived LT a in the induction of CCL21 or the development of T-zone stroma. These data suggest that interactions between adult lymphoid-tissue inducer-like cells and embryonic stromal cells initiated T-zone development. Furthermore,adult lymphoid tissue inducer-like cells were shown to develop from bone marrow-derived progenitors. The model described here demonstrates a method of transferring whole splenic microenvironments and dissecting the stromal and hematopoietic signals involved in spleen development and organization

    Patient and Provider Communication Regarding Exercise during Pregnancy in a Rural Setting

    International Journal of Exercise Science 13(3): 1228-1241, 2020. Women in rural settings are at increased risk for adverse pregnancy outcomes. One potential way to improve pregnancy outcomes in rural settings is through physical activity promotion. However, given the disparities in prenatal care, women in rural areas may not receive information from their health care provider regarding physical activity during pregnancy. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to examine patient and provider communication in a rural setting (both patients’ and providers’ perspectives) regarding physical activity during pregnancy. A mixed methods study was performed among patients and providers in an obstetrical practice in a rural setting. During early pregnancy, patients were asked questions about their current physical activity levels and intentions for physical activity during their pregnancy. During late pregnancy, patients completed a survey regarding communication from their obstetric provider about exercise during pregnancy. Providers responsible for the patients’ prenatal care were surveyed regarding communication with patients about physical activity. Seventy-one pregnant women and five providers participated. 58.2% of patients reported their provider did not discuss physical activity during pregnancy with them at all. Meanwhile, all providers (100%) reported discussing physical activity with all of their patients. Similarly, only 21.8% of patients reported their provider discussed the benefits of exercise during pregnancy, while 100% of providers reported telling their patients about the benefits of exercise during pregnancy. Our study suggests ineffective patient-provider communication regarding physical activity during pregnancy in a rural setting. Improved communication strategies could reduce disparities in health outcomes among pregnant women in rural settings

    Search for T Violation in Charm Meson Decays

    Using data from the FOCUS (E831) experiment, we have searched for T violation in charm meson decays using the four-body decay channels D0KK+ππ+D^0 \to K^-K^+\pi^-\pi^+, D+KS0K+ππ+D^+ \to K^0_SK^+\pi^-\pi^+, and Ds+KS0K+ππ+D^+_s \to K^0_SK^+\pi^-\pi^+. The T violation asymmetry is obtained using triple-product correlations and assuming the validity of the CPT theorem. We find the asymmetry values to be ATviol(D0)=0.010±0.057(stat.)±0.037(syst.)A_Tviol (D^0) = 0.010 \pm 0.057(stat.) \pm 0.037(syst.), ATviol(D+)=0.023±0.062(stat.)±0.022(syst.)A_Tviol (D^+) = 0.023 \pm 0.062(stat.) \pm 0.022(syst.), and ATviol(Ds+)=0.036±0.067(stat.)±0.023(syst.)A_Tviol (D^+_s) = -0.036 \pm 0.067(stat.) \pm 0.023(syst.). Each measurement is consistent with no T violation. New measurements of the CP asymmetries for some of these decay modes are also presented.Comment: 17 pages,6 figures,submitted to Phys.Lett.

    Thermal conductivity measurements of proton-heated warm dense aluminum.

    Thermal conductivity is one of the most crucial physical properties of matter when it comes to understanding heat transport, hydrodynamic evolution, and energy balance in systems ranging from astrophysical objects to fusion plasmas. In the warm dense matter regime, experimental data are very scarce so that many theoretical models remain untested. Here we present the first thermal conductivity measurements of aluminum at 0.5-2.7 g/cc and 2-10 eV, using a recently developed platform of differential heating. A temperature gradient is induced in a Au/Al dual-layer target by proton heating, and subsequent heat flow from the hotter Au to the Al rear surface is detected by two simultaneous time-resolved diagnostics. A systematic data set allows for constraining both thermal conductivity and equation-of-state models. Simulations using Purgatorio model or Sesame S27314 for Al thermal conductivity and LEOS for Au/Al release equation-of-state show good agreement with data after 15 ps. Discrepancy still exists at early time 0-15 ps, likely due to non-equilibrium conditions

    Anomalous material-dependent transport of focused, laser-driven proton beams.

    Intense lasers can accelerate protons in sufficient numbers and energy that the resulting beam can heat materials to exotic warm (10 s of eV temperature) states. Here we show with experimental data that a laser-driven proton beam focused onto a target heated it in a localized spot with size strongly dependent upon material and as small as 35 μm radius. Simulations indicate that cold stopping power values cannot model the intense proton beam transport in solid targets well enough to match the large differences observed. In the experiment a 74 J, 670 fs laser drove a focusing proton beam that transported through different thicknesses of solid Mylar, Al, Cu or Au, eventually heating a rear, thin, Au witness layer. The XUV emission seen from the rear of the Au indicated a clear dependence of proton beam transport upon atomic number, Z, of the transport layer: a larger and brighter emission spot was measured after proton transport through the lower Z foils even with equal mass density for supposed equivalent proton stopping range. Beam transport dynamics pertaining to the observed heated spot were investigated numerically with a particle-in-cell (PIC) code. In simulations protons moving through an Al transport layer result in higher Au temperature responsible for higher Au radiant emittance compared to a Cu transport case. The inferred finding that proton stopping varies with temperature in different materials, considerably changing the beam heating profile, can guide applications seeking to controllably heat targets with intense proton beams

    Contrasting magnetic behavior of fine particles of some Kondo Lattices

    We have investigated the magnetic behavior of ball-milled fine particles of well-known Kondo lattices, CeAu2Si2, CePd2Si2 and CeAl2, by magnetization and heat-capacity studies in order to understand the magnetic behavior when the particle size is reduced. These compounds have been known to order antiferromagnetically in the bulk form near (TN=) 10, 10 and 3.8 K respectively. We find that the features due to magnetic ordering get suppressed to temperatures below 1.8 K in the case of fine particles of ternary alloys, though trivalence of Ce as inferred from the effective moment remains unchanged. In contrast to this, in CeAl2, there appears to be a marginal enhancement of TN, when the particle size is reduced to less than a micron. These results can be consistently understood by proposing that there is relatively more 4f-localization as the particle size is reduced, resulting in weakening of exchange interaction strength

    Study of Cabibbo Suppressed Decays of the Ds Charmed-Strange Meson involving a KS

    We study the decay of Ds meson into final states involving a Ks and report the discovery of Cabibbo suppressed decay modes Ds -> Kspi-pi+pi+ (179 +/- 36 events) and Ds -> Kspi+ (113 +/-26 events). The branching ratios for the new modes are Gamma(Ds -> Kspi-pi+pi+)/Gamma(Ds -> KsK-pi+pi+) = 0.18 +/- 0.04 +/- 0.05 and Gamma(Ds -> Kspi+)/Gamma(Ds -> KsK+) = 0.104 +/- 0.024 +/- 0.013.Comment: 11 pages, 6 figure
