    Helicobacter Pylori Infection in Children with Recurrent Abdominal Pain

    Recurrent abdominal pain (RAP) is a very common presenting complaint in pediatric population. There is still a debate regarding the role of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection as an etiology of RAP. Typically, the inflammatory process in the gastric mucosa of infected individuals is chronic gastritis. Serologic and histologic examination are widely used for the diagnosis. This study was aimed to determine the role of H. pylori infection in Indonesian children with RAP. The presence of serum IgG antibody to H. pylori and upper gastrointestinal endoscopy were performed on the 101 children with RAP. Mucosal biopsies were obtained for histologic analysis. The prevalence of H. pylori infection indicated by serology was 32.7% and by histology was 27.7%. Histologic evidence of gastritis was present in 94.1% children and 45% of them had chronic atrophic and active gastritis. Seventy percent children with H. pylori positive were found abnormal through endoscopy and all of the infected children were revealed abnormal through histological examination. Forty eight percent of seropositive children were found H. pylori positive and 80% of seronegative\u27s children were found to be H. pylori negative through histologic examination. Conclusion: H. pylori infection can be a cause of RAP in children. Work up for H. pylori infection should be performed when symptoms are suggestive of organic disease. Larger prospective studies are needed to be performed for a longer time of period to clarify this issue

Program Studi Teknik Sipil Fakultas Teknik Universitas Sebelas Maret. Surakarta. Salah satu permasalahan pada perkerasan aspal adalah sering terjadinya perubahan bentuk atau deformasi. Deformasi adalah perubahan bentuk campuran aspal secara fisik. Split Mastic Asphalt (SMA) merupakan salah satu jenis campuran aspal yang memiliki gradasi senjang. Campuran SMA biasanya digunakan pada lalu lintas berat, oleh karena itu sering terjadi kerusakan pada perkerasan seperti retak dan deformasi. Disisi lain, plastik HDPE (High Density Poly Ethylene) yang akan digunakan dalam penelitian ini memiliki sifat thermoplastik yaitu bersifat elastis pada saat panas dan bersifat kaku pada saat dingin. Sifat HDPE tersebut diharapkan mampu menaikkan mutu dan keandalan campuran SMA. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis karakteristik campuran SMA konvensional dan campuran SMA yang dimodifikasi dengan plastik HDPE. Dalam penelitian ini aspal yang digunakan adalah aspal Pertamina penetrasi 60/70. Kadar aspal yang digunakan adalah Kadar aspal Optimum sebesar 6,95% dan Kadar Plastik Optimum sebesar 33,5% (M Fauzan, 2017). Karakteristik yang dianalisis adalah kuat tarik, kuat lentur, disintegrasi dan permeabilitas. Karakteristik tersebut didapatkan dengan melakukan pengujian ITS, Bending, Cantabro dan Permeabilitas pada campuran SMA dan SMA modifikasi HDPE. Kemudian nilai setiap pengujian dari masing-masing campuran dibandingkan. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa modifikasi plastik HDPE pada campuran SMA mampu meningkatkan nilai ITS sebesar 538%, nilai kuat lentur meningkat sebesar 293,05%, nilai cantabro berkurang sebesar 453,37%, dan nilai koefesien permeabilitas berkurang sebesar 224,5%. Penambahan limbah tutup botol plastik HDPE mampu meningkatkan nilai ITS, Bending, dan Cantabro diakibatkan oleh sifat HDPE yang mampu untuk mengeras pada suhu dingin. Sedangkan penurunan nilai Koefesien Permeabilitas pada campuran dengan panambahan HDPE diakibatkan oleh sifat HDPE yang kedap air, sehingga sebagian campuran menjadi Impermeable.     Engineering Bacillus subtilis for Production of Antimalaria Artemisinin and Anticancer Paclitaxel Precursors

    Terpenoids are natural products with diverse applicability in foods, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals industries. Among them are antimalaria artemisinin and anticancer paclitaxel. The research in the thesis is aimed to engineer Bacillus subtilis, a gram-positive bacterium, for high production of amorphadiene and taxadiene, the precursor of antimalaria artemisinin and anticancer paclitaxel respectively. With its generally recognized status as safe bacterium, B. subtilis can be a more economic host for the production. The bacterium itself own MEP pathway as the endogenous pathway to produce precursors of terpenoids but insufficient yet to generate high titter of terpenoids. Here the author improved the terpenoid production by upregulating the endogenous pathway in a stable manner. A stable synthetic cluster of genes of the pathway was employed to produced high titer of three different terpenoids including taxadiene and amorphadiene. Indeed, the genetic manipulation included the heterologous expression of terpene synthase as the downstream enzyme in the terpenoids biosynthetic pathways. Other measures including protein fusion leading higher expression of amorphadiene synthase and medium optimization were employed. At the end, as a proof of concept, an alternative heterologous MVA pathway was built and expressed, providing more precursors supply for higher amorphadiene production. The multiapproach shown in thesis would be applicable to produce considerable yield of terpenoids, not only amorphadiene and taxadiene

    Suatu teknologi untuk memprediksi konsumsi energi merupakan suatu hal yang penting untuk penghematan dan efisiensi energi. Hal tersebut akan mendorong tercapainya tujuan penting pemerintah yaitu pemakaian energi listrik tepat sasaran serta mengurangi masalah lingkungan seperti efek rumah kaca. Maka perlunya prediksi dengan teknologi yang canggih berbasis kecerdasan buatan seperti artificial neural network. Diketahui bahwa metode ini sangat efektif dalam memecahkan masalah nonlinier karena mengadopsi jaringan syaraf manusia yang akan selalu melakukan pembelajaran untuk pola data yang digunakan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa metode ini sangat baik dalam memecahkan masalah nonlinier dan lebih baik dibandingkan dengan metode konvensional yaitu exponential smoothing. A technology to predict energy consumption is important for saving and energy efficiency. This will encourage the achievement of an important government goal of using electricity on target and reducing environmental problems such as the greenhouse effect. So importance to predict with sophisticated technology based on artificial intelligence such as artificial neural networks. It is known that this method is very effective in solving nonlinear problems because it changes the human neural network that will always learn for the data patterns used. The results of this study indicate this method is very good at solving nonlinear problems and better than conventional methods namely exponential smoothing

    Benefit and Challenge of Soy Plant-based Formula in Infant and Children

    The first report of soy being administered to an infant is over 100 years old (1).  Since the 1960s the composition of soy formula has been better adapted to the nutritional needs of infants and since 2000 infant formula based on soy fulfills European Directives and legislation for infant feeding.Soy infant formula contains a soy protein isolate (95% protein), and methionine, carnitine, taurine, iron, calcium phosphor and zinc are added. Heating destroys the anti-protease activity of soy for over 90 %. In 2016, soy infant formula was still 12% of the USA market and 25 % of infants were fed soy infant formula during their first years of life (2)

    The purpose of this study was to determine the personality and work motivation to influence the normative commitment of the principal. This study used a survey method involving 90 school principals from public high schools in DKI Jakarta. The data obtained were analyzed using the path analysis approach. In conclusion, personality and work motivation have a positive direct effect on normative commitment of school principals. This indicates that the better the personality and the higher the work motivation, the higher the normative commitment of the school principal. Keywords: Personality, Motivation, Normative Commitment
