âSmarter information, smarter consumersâ? Insights into the housing market
This study, we explores how information helps housing consumers make informed decisions and discusses potential market outcomes. Specifically, wWe analyse the interaction between the disclosure of information on property conditions and the disparity between home sellersâ willingness to accept (WTA) of home sellers and the home buyersâ willingness to pay (WTP) of home buyers. Three hypotheses are derived and validated through field experimental investigation within the property market. We find that the WTAâWTP disparity exists. The discussed policy instrument for information disclosure appears to function as expected. The release of information helps consumers adjust their judgment and estimation of future maintenance cost in the direction of true probability, reduces the time and monetary costs of searching information and corrects the high risk-premium they demand in buying resale properties. The WTAâWTP disparity is considerably reduced after information disclosure, and market liquidity and efficiency are improved. This study is an important complement to prior research on how information changes the behaviour of consumers in housing markets. Findings can inform the central government about the wide use of smart disclosure in the near future, as well as the scope, format and structure of information to be supplied to general housing consumers.National Natural Science Foundation of China (Project #71231005 and #71671076) and the technical support of China Index Academy

Reference-dependent analysis of capital structure and REIT performance
Using prospect theory, we develop a theoretical framework to examine the relationship between leverage and Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) returns by introducing the concept of reference point. We postulate that firmsâ capital structure decisions are affected by target leverage (i.e., the reference point) as well as the observed leverage. Market conditions combined with firmsâ capital structure will put firms in either loss or gain domains, where firms behave differently. In general, the leverage-return relationship is positive in the gain domain and negative in the loss domain. Firms are then subject to asymmetric risk preference in different domains. Our empirical evidence shows strong support for the theoretical model. Free-standing graphene films embedded in epoxy resin with enhanced thermal properties
The poor thermal conductivity of polymer composites has long been a deterrent to their increased use in high-end aerospace or defence applications. This study describes a new approach for the incorporation of graphene in an epoxy resin, through the addition of graphene as free-standing film in the polymeric matrix. The electrical and thermal conductivity of composites embedding two different free-standing graphene films was compared to composites with embedded carbon nanotube buckypapers (CNT-BP). Considerably higher thermal conductivity values than those achieved with conventional dispersing methods of graphene or CNTs in epoxy resins were obtained. The characterisation was complemented with a study of the structure at the microscale by cross-sectional scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images and a thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The films are preconditioned in order to incorporate them into the composites, and the complete manufacturing process proposed allows the production and processing of these materials in large batches. The high thermal conductivity obtained for the composites opens the way for their use in demanding thermal management applications, such as electronic enclosures or platforms facing critical temperature loads.European Defence Agency tender No 17.ESI.OP.066. Effective theories of single field inflation when heavy fields matter
We compute the low energy effective field theory (EFT) expansion for
single-field inflationary models that descend from a parent theory containing
multiple other scalar fields. By assuming that all other degrees of freedom in
the parent theory are sufficiently massive relative to the inflaton, it is
possible to derive an EFT valid to arbitrary order in perturbations, provided
certain generalized adiabaticity conditions are respected. These conditions
permit a consistent low energy EFT description even when the inflaton deviates
off its adiabatic minimum along its slowly rolling trajectory. By generalizing
the formalism that identifies the adiabatic mode with the Goldstone boson of
this spontaneously broken time translational symmetry prior to the integration
of the heavy fields, we show that this invariance of the parent theory dictates
the entire non-perturbative structure of the descendent EFT. The couplings of
this theory can be written entirely in terms of the reduced speed of sound of
adiabatic perturbations. The resulting operator expansion is distinguishable
from that of other scenarios, such as standard single inflation or DBI
inflation. In particular, we re-derive how certain operators can become
transiently strongly coupled along the inflaton trajectory, consistent with
slow-roll and the validity of the EFT expansion, imprinting features in the
primordial power spectrum, and we deduce the relevant cubic operators that
imply distinct signatures in the primordial bispectrum which may soon be

This document is an update to the 2011 Clinical Pharmacogenetics Implementation Consortium (CPIC) guideline for CYP2C9 and VKORC1 genotypes and warfarin dosing. Evidence from the published literature is presented for CYP2C9, VKORC1, CYP4F2, and rs12777823 genotype-guided warfarin dosing to achieve a target international normalized ratio of 2-3 when clinical genotype results are available. In addition, this updated guideline incorporates recommendations for adult and pediatric patients that are specific to continental ancestry
Rare germline variants in DNA repair genes and the angiogenesis pathway predispose prostate cancer patients to develop metastatic disease
Background
Prostate cancer (PrCa) demonstrates a heterogeneous clinical presentation ranging from largely indolent to lethal. We sought to identify a signature of rare inherited variants that distinguishes between these two extreme phenotypes.
Methods
We sequenced germline whole exomes from 139 aggressive (metastatic, age of diagnosisâ<â60) and 141 non-aggressive (low clinical grade, age of diagnosis â„60) PrCa cases. We conducted rare variant association analyses at gene and gene set levels using SKAT and Bayesian risk index techniques. GO term enrichment analysis was performed for genes with the highest differential burden of rare disruptive variants.
Results
Protein truncating variants (PTVs) in specific DNA repair genes were significantly overrepresented among patients with the aggressive phenotype, with BRCA2, ATM and NBN the most frequently mutated genes. Differential burden of rare variants was identified between metastatic and non-aggressive cases for several genes implicated in angiogenesis, conferring both deleterious and protective effects.
Conclusions
Inherited PTVs in several DNA repair genes distinguish aggressive from non-aggressive PrCa cases. Furthermore, inherited variants in genes with roles in angiogenesis may be potential predictors for risk of metastases. If validated in a larger dataset, these findings have potential for future clinical application
W::Neo: A Novel Dual-Selection Marker for High Efficiency Gene Targeting in Drosophila
We have recently developed a so-called genomic engineering approach that allows for directed, efficient and versatile modifications of Drosophila genome by combining the homologous recombination (HR)-based gene targeting with site-specific DNA integration. In genomic engineering and several similar approaches, a âfounderâ knock-out line must be generated first through HR-based gene targeting, which can still be a potentially time and resource intensive process. To significantly improve the efficiency and success rate of HR-based gene targeting in Drosophila, we have generated a new dual-selection marker termed W::Neo, which is a direct fusion between proteins of eye color marker White (W) and neomycin resistance (Neo). In HR-based gene targeting experiments, mutants carrying W::Neo as the selection marker can be enriched as much as fifty times by taking advantage of the antibiotic selection in Drosophila larvae. We have successfully carried out three independent gene targeting experiments using the W::Neo to generate genomic engineering founder knock-out lines in Drosophila
Outcomes of patients with hematologic malignancies and COVID-19: A systematic review and meta-analysis of 3377 patients
Outcomes for patients with hematologic malignancy infected with COVID-19 have not been aggregated. The objective of this study was to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis to estimate the risk of death and other important outcomes for these patients. We searched Pubmed and EMBASE up to August 20, 2020, to identify reports of patients with hematologic malignancy and COVID-19. The primary outcome was a pooled mortality estimate, considering all patients and only hospitalized patients. Secondary outcomes included risk of ICU admission and ventilation in hospitalized patients. Subgroup analyses included mortality stratified by age, treatment status, and malignancy subtype. Pooled prevalence, risk ratios (RR), and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated using a random-effects model. 34 adult and 5 pediatric studies (3377 patients) from Asia, Europe, and North America were included (14/34 adult studies included only hospitalized patients). The risk of death amongst adult patients was 34% (95% CI 28-39, N=3240) in this sample of predominantly hospitalized patients. Patients aged >60 years had a significantly higher risk of death than patients 60 years have significantly higher mortality, and pediatric patients appear to be relatively spared. Recent cancer treatment does not appear to significantly increase the risk of death

Improved Constraints on Sterile Neutrino Mixing from Disappearance Searches in the MINOS, MINOS+, Daya Bay, and Bugey-3 Experiments.
Searches for electron antineutrino, muon neutrino, and muon antineutrino disappearance driven by sterile neutrino mixing have been carried out by the Daya Bay and MINOS+ collaborations. This Letter presents the combined results of these searches, along with exclusion results from the Bugey-3 reactor experiment, framed in a minimally extended four-neutrino scenario. Significantly improved constraints on the Ξ_{ÎŒe} mixing angle are derived that constitute the most constraining limits to date over five orders of magnitude in the mass-squared splitting Îm_{41}^{2}, excluding the 90% C.L. sterile-neutrino parameter space allowed by the LSND and MiniBooNE observations at 90% CL_{s} for Îm_{41}^{2}<13ââeV^{2}. Furthermore, the LSND and MiniBooNE 99% C.L. allowed regions are excluded at 99% CL_{s} for Îm_{41}^{2}<1.6âeV^{2}
The labour supply effect of Education Maintenance Allowance and its implications for parental altruism
Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) was a UK government cash transfer paid directly to children aged 16â18, in the first 2Â years of post-compulsory full-time education. This paper uses the labour supply effect of EMA to infer the magnitude of the transfer response made by the parent, and so test for the presence of an âeffectively altruisticâ head-of-household, who redistributes resources among household members so as to maximise overall welfare. Using data from the Longitudinal Study of Young People in England, an EMA payment of ÂŁ30 per week is found to reduce teenagersâ labour supply by 3Â h per week and probability of employment by 13Â % points from a base of 43Â %. We conclude that parents withdraw cash and in-kind transfers from their children to a value of between 22 and 86Â % of what the child receives in EMA. This means we reject the hypothesis of an effectively altruistic head-of-household, and argue that making this cash transfer directly to the child produces higher child welfare than if the equivalent transfer were made to parents
