[Colored solutions of Yang-Baxter equation from representations of U_{q}gl(2)]

We study the Hopf algebra structure and the highest weight representation of a multiparameter version of Uqgl(2)U_{q}gl(2). The commutation relations as well as other Hopf algebra maps are explicitly given. We show that the multiparameter universal R{\cal R} matrix can be constructed directly as a quantum double intertwiner, without using Reshetikhin's transformation. An interesting feature automatically appears in the representation theory: it can be divided into two types, one for generic qq, the other for qq being a root of unity. When applying the representation theory to the multiparameter universal R{\cal R} matrix, the so called standard and nonstandard colored solutions R(μ,ν;μ′,ν′)R(\mu,\nu; {\mu}', {\nu}') of the Yang-Baxter equation is obtained.Comment: [14]pages, latex, no figure

VConv-DAE: Deep Volumetric Shape Learning Without Object Labels

With the advent of affordable depth sensors, 3D capture becomes more and more ubiquitous and already has made its way into commercial products. Yet, capturing the geometry or complete shapes of everyday objects using scanning devices (e.g. Kinect) still comes with several challenges that result in noise or even incomplete shapes. Recent success in deep learning has shown how to learn complex shape distributions in a data-driven way from large scale 3D CAD Model collections and to utilize them for 3D processing on volumetric representations and thereby circumventing problems of topology and tessellation. Prior work has shown encouraging results on problems ranging from shape completion to recognition. We provide an analysis of such approaches and discover that training as well as the resulting representation are strongly and unnecessarily tied to the notion of object labels. Thus, we propose a full convolutional volumetric auto encoder that learns volumetric representation from noisy data by estimating the voxel occupancy grids. The proposed method outperforms prior work on challenging tasks like denoising and shape completion. We also show that the obtained deep embedding gives competitive performance when used for classification and promising results for shape interpolation

Integral representations of q-analogues of the Hurwitz zeta function

Two integral representations of q-analogues of the Hurwitz zeta function are established. Each integral representation allows us to obtain an analytic continuation including also a full description of poles and special values at non-positive integers of the q-analogue of the Hurwitz zeta function, and to study the classical limit of this q-analogue. All the discussion developed here is entirely different from the previous work in [4]Comment: 14 page

Shear viscosity, instability and the upper bound of the Gauss-Bonnet coupling constant

We compute the dimensionality dependence of η/s\eta/s for charged black branes with Gauss-Bonnet correction. We find that both causality and stability constrain the value of Gauss-Bonnet coupling constant to be bounded by 1/4 in the infinite dimensionality limit. We further show that higher dimensionality stabilize the gravitational perturbation. The stabilization of the perturbation in higher dimensional space-time is a straightforward consequence of the Gauss-Bonnet coupling constant bound.Comment: 16 pages,3 figures+3 tables, typos corrected, published versio

Thermal Radiation Hazards from Gas Pipeline Rupture Fireballs

    Get PDF
Increasing world-wide demand for gas is resulting in an increased network of gas piping which poses potential hazards to the natural and man-made environment in proximity to the pipelines. In this work we report experimental measurements of the thermal radiation levels generated by fireballs from two fullscale, below-ground, natural-gas pipeline ruptures. The tests were carried out at the DNV GL’s Spadeadam Test Site simulating the rupture of a 1219 mm diameter pipe carrying high pressure natural gas (at 13.4 MPa -nominal gauge pressure). The duration of the fireball and the maximum heat fluxes (as high as 70 kW/m2 at 200 m downwind) were well predicted by current simple mathematical models when a reasonable radiative fraction of the total energy release was assumed. The empirical radiant fraction equation adopted by OGP was shown to overpredict the incident heat flux in these tests. In the second test the grass surrounding the test location was ignited and other vegetation showed significant thermal damage. To interpret such data correctly and to evaluate the hazards, to natural and man-made environments, more information is needed on the effects of short exposure times (of the order of a few seconds) to high transient heat fluxes

Stochastic Physics, Complex Systems and Biology

In complex systems, the interplay between nonlinear and stochastic dynamics, e.g., J. Monod's necessity and chance, gives rise to an evolutionary process in Darwinian sense, in terms of discrete jumps among attractors, with punctuated equilibrium, spontaneous random "mutations" and "adaptations". On an evlutionary time scale it produces sustainable diversity among individuals in a homogeneous population rather than convergence as usually predicted by a deterministic dynamics. The emergent discrete states in such a system, i.e., attractors, have natural robustness against both internal and external perturbations. Phenotypic states of a biological cell, a mesoscopic nonlinear stochastic open biochemical system, could be understood through such a perspective.Comment: 10 page

Pose-Normalized Image Generation for Person Re-identification

Person Re-identification (re-id) faces two major challenges: the lack of cross-view paired training data and learning discriminative identity-sensitive and view-invariant features in the presence of large pose variations. In this work, we address both problems by proposing a novel deep person image generation model for synthesizing realistic person images conditional on the pose. The model is based on a generative adversarial network (GAN) designed specifically for pose normalization in re-id, thus termed pose-normalization GAN (PN-GAN). With the synthesized images, we can learn a new type of deep re-id feature free of the influence of pose variations. We show that this feature is strong on its own and complementary to features learned with the original images. Importantly, under the transfer learning setting, we show that our model generalizes well to any new re-id dataset without the need for collecting any training data for model fine-tuning. The model thus has the potential to make re-id model truly scalable.Comment: 10 pages, 5 figure

QoE-Assured 4K HTTP live streaming via transient segment holding at mobile edge

    Get PDF
HTTP-based live streaming has become increasingly popular in recent years, and more users have started generating 4K live streams from their devices (e.g., mobile phones) through social-media service providers like Facebook or YouTube. If the audience is located far from a live stream source across the global Internet, TCP throughput becomes substantially suboptimal due to slow-start and congestion control mechanisms. This is especially the case when the end-to-end content delivery path involves radio access network (RAN) at the last mile. As a result, the data rate perceived by a mobile receiver may not meet the high requirement of 4K video streams, which causes deteriorated Quality-of-Experience (QoE). In this paper, we propose a scheme named Edge-based Transient Holding of Live sEgment (ETHLE), which addresses the issue above by performing context-aware transient holding of video segments at the mobile edge with virtualized content caching capability. Through holding the minimum number of live video segments at the mobile edge cache in a context-aware manner, the ETHLE scheme is able to achieve seamless 4K live streaming experiences across the global Internet by eliminating buffering and substantially reducing initial startup delay and live stream latency. It has been deployed as a virtual network function at an LTE-A network, and its performance has been evaluated using real live stream sources that are distributed around the world. The significance of this paper is that by leveraging on virtualized caching resources at the mobile edge, we have addressed the conventional transport-layer bottleneck and enabled QoE-assured Internet-wide live streaming to support the emerging live streaming services with high data rate requirements

Spin photocurrent, its spectra dependence, and current-induced spin polarization in an InGaAs/InAlAs two-dimensional electron gas

Converse effect of spin photocurrent and current induced spin polarization are experimentally demonstrated in the same two-dimensional electron gas system with Rashba spin splitting. Their consistency with the strength of the Rashba coupling as measured from beating of the Shubnikov-de Haas oscillations reveals a unified picture for the spin photocurrent, current-induced spin polarization and spin orbit coupling. In addition, the observed spectral inversion of the spin photocurrent indicates the system with dominating structure inversion asymmetry.Comment: 13 pages, 4 figure
