On differences of perfect powers and prime powers

Given a prime number $q$ and a squarefree integer $C_1$, we develop a method to explicitly determine the tuples $(y, n, \alpha)$ for which the difference $y^n-q^\alpha$ has squarefree part equal to $C_1$. Our techniques include the combination of the local information provided by Galois representations of Frey-Hellegouarch curves with the effective resolution of Thue-Mahler equations, as well as the use of improved lower bounds for $q-$adic and complex logarithms. As an application of this methodology, we will completely resolve the case when $1 \le C_1 \le 20$ and 2 \le q < 25

Single wall carbon nanotubes loaded with Pd and NiPd nanoparticles for H2 sensing at room temperature

Pd and bimetallic Ni50Pd50 nanoparticles protected by polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) have been synthesized by the reduction-by-solvent method and deposited on single wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) to be tested as H2 sensors. The SWCNTs were deposited by drop casting from different suspensions. The Pd nanoparticles-based sensors show a very reproducible performance with good sensitivity and very low response times (few seconds) for different H2 concentrations, ranging from 0.2% to 5% vol. H2 in air at atmospheric pressure. The influence of the metal nanoparticle composition, the quality of SWCNTs suspension and the metal loading have been studied, observing that all these parameters play an important role in the H2 sensor performance. Evidence for water formation during the H2 detection on Pd nanoparticles has been found, and its repercussion on the behaviour of the assembled sensors is discussed. The sensor preparation procedure detailed in this work has proven to be simple and reproducible to prepare cost-effective and highly efficient H2 sensors that perform very well under real application conditions.We thank the MINECO, Generalitat Valenciana and FEDER (Projects CTQ2012-31762 and PROMETEO/2009/047) for financial support. Diseño y cálculo de estructura, instalaciones de baja tensión, alumbrado y protección contra incendios de una nave industrial de 1400 m2 destinada al almacenamiento de resinas, harinas y cola, situada en Silla (València)

[ES] El presente Trabajo Final de Máster aborda el diseño y cálculo de la estructura, instalación eléctrica e instalación de protección contra incendios de una nave industrial destinada principalmente al almacenamiento y expedición de harina, ubicada en el término municipal de Silla (Valencia). Se trata de una nave de 50 metros de longitud por 20 metros de ancho, resuelta con estructura metálica a base de pórticos a dos aguas, de 1.140 metros cuadrados de superficie, con un altillo dos alturas destinado a oficinas y otros servicios. Se ha dispuesto también una marquesina lateral de 390 metros cuadrados. La instalación eléctrica se ha diseñado para abastecer las necesidades eléctricas del establecimiento, tanto para el alumbrado como para las tomas de corriente y maquinaria existentes. Se han diseñado las medidas de protección contra incendios, contemplando la instalación de exutorios, bocas de incendio equipadas, sistema de detección automática y extintores. Se dispondrá de un depósito y grupo de presión para el abastecimiento del agua para las bocas de incendio.[EN] The present Master Thesis deals with the design and calculation of the structure, electrical installation and fire protection installation of an industrial warehouse destined mainly for the storage and dispatch of flour, located in Silla (Valencia). It consists of an industrial building of 50 meters long by 20 meters wide, solved by a steel structure with gable frames, with a total 1.140 square meters floor area, comprising a twostorey mezzanine for housing the offices and other services. It has also a side canopy of 390 square meters. The electrical installation is designed to supply the electrical power needs of the industrial building, both for lighting and for existing electrical outlets and machinery. The fire protection measures have also been designed, including the installation of mechanical smoke vents, fire hose reels, automatic detection system and fire extinguishers. Enhanced lanthanum-stabilized low crystallinity metal oxide electrocatalysts with superior activity for oxygen reactions

Oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) are key electrochemical reactions for the development of rechargeable Zn-air batteries. However, due to the high cost of commercial noble metal-based catalysts and their limited bifunctionality, it is necessary the design of new electrocatalysts. In this study, stable electrocatalysts have been synthesized through a hydrothermal method and further low-temperature thermal treatment. The materials consist of La stabilized low crystallinity Mn and Co metal (hydro-)oxides. The electrocatalytic performance of these materials has been compared with counterparts calcined at higher temperatures. The findings demonstrate that materials synthesized at lower temperatures and with low crystallinity exhibit superior electrocatalytic activity for both ORR and OER. Moreover, the research highlights the favorable influence of the lanthanum cation, which enhances changes of surface morphology and oxidation states of other cations (Mn and Co). Additionally, the positive contribution of the carbon component to electrochemical activity and electrical conductivity has been elucidated. The best electrocatalyst was studied in a rechargeable Zn-air battery with a durability of up to 120 hours. Diseño Audiovisual: Creación de los títulos de crédito iniciales de un largometraje. El fin de la infancia

Curs: 2013/2014Los títulos de crédito iniciales son el primer contacto que el espectador tiene con la obra audiovisual. Su función principal no solo es informar de los profesionales que han participado en su creación, sino también la de captar la atención del espectador, a modo de prologo o introducción y marcar el tono de la película. Con el desarrollo de las nuevas tecnologías aplicadas al ámbito del audiovisual, el diseño audiovisual, que consiste en aplicar los conocimientos del diseño gráfico a la fotografía en movimiento, se ha convertido en una disciplina que tiende, cada vez más, a la experimentación. Experimentación que está influenciando en los modos de narrar, en particular, y al lenguaje audiovisual, en general. Este trabajo se centra, principalmente, en el diseño, desarrollo y ejecución de los títulos de crédito iniciales de un largometraje. Para lo cual se ha tomado como inspiración el libro de ciencia-ficción de Arthur C. Clark “El fin de la Infancia” (Childhood's End, 1953) que habla de qué forma evoluciona la especie humana, tras la llegada de naves espaciales a la tierra, debido a la influencia que sus ocupantes ejercen en la misma

Valoración de startups con Aprendizaje Automático

In this project the author will develop a large-scale automatic valuation method for companies (with a strong focus on startups). The main challenge is the lack of nancial information which is usually used when valuating companies with traditional methods. This problem will be overcome using a Machine Learning approach. The models will be fitted using collected data from sources from the Internet using web scrappers & crawlers. After a holistic analysis on the theoretical valuation of companies, it will be concluded that the valuation formula will lay its basis on the Discounted Free Cash Flows model. Also, a research of state-of-the-art Machine Learning techniques will take place. Then, an estimation model for each one of the formula's inputs will be built accordingly with the company's information that is known beforehand: in order to determine the company's economic activity from its description an expert rule-based system will be implemented. The company's revenues will be estimated using a meta-estimator that fits 700 randomized decision trees with data related to the number of employees, economic activity, social traction and other features. A similar estimator will also be used, with the help of an expert system, to transform those revenues into free cash ows. On the other hand, the risk of failure, growth and discount rate will be determined with the development of a system that crawls people's interest trends and matches the already known metrics of companies with the target ones according to its economic activity similarity.Doble Grado en Ingeniería Informática y Administración de Empresa

Vieja Europa, nuevo orden: propuesta gráfica de contrapropaganda

Vieja Europa, Nuevo Orden juega a descodificar los mensajes y otorgarles una nueva significación. Elaborar un discurso crítico a través de esta alteración exige sumergirse en la investigación de los códigos hegemónicos que se utilizan en la divulgación política, poniendo al servicio de la propuesta sus mecanismos y herramientas. Esta pretensión conduce a realizar un análisis histórico sobre la vinculación y el papel del arte y el diseño gráfico en la actividad propagandística y la función que desempeña cuando se origina una reacción subversiva ante dicha actividad. Para conseguir esto se repasan referentes, las posturas adoptadas por artistas comprometidos y algunas de las vías de actuación que diferentes movimientos, acontecimientos o circunstancias han propuesto a lo largo del transcurso de la modernidad y de la contemporaneidad. Tras un análisis teórico, se expone y describe el desarrollo táctico y práctico de la presente propuesta. Vieja Europa, Nuevo Orden plays to decode the messages and give them a new meaning.
