    Quantitative determination of the local structure of thymine on Cu(1 1 0) using scanned-energy mode photoelectron diffraction

    The local adsorption structures of the surface species formed by interaction of thymine with a Cu(1 1 0) surface at room temperature, and after heating to not, vert, similar530 K, have been investigated. Initial characterisation by soft-X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and O K-edge near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) indicates the effect of sequential dehydrogenation of the NH species and provides information on the molecular orientation. O 1s and N 1s scanned-energy mode photoelectron diffraction shows the species at both temperatures bond to the surface through both carbonyl O atoms and the deprotonated N atom between them, each bonding atom adopting near-atop sites on the outermost Cu surface layer. The associated bondlengths are 1.96 ± 0.03 Å for Cu–N and 1.91 ± 0.03 Å and 2.03 ± 0.03 Å for the two inequivalent Cu--O bonds. The molecular plane lies almost exactly in the close-packed View the MathML source azimuth, but with a tilt relative to the surface normal of approximately 20°. Heating to not, vert, similar530 K, or deposition at this temperature, appears to lead to dehydrogenation of the second N atom in the ring, but no significant change in the adsorption geometry

    Giant Magnetoresistance Effect in the Metal-Insulator Transition of Pyrochlore Oxide Nd2Ir2O7

    We investigated the magnetoresistance (MR) effect of the pyrochlore oxide Nd2Ir2O7, which shows a metal-insulator transition at T_MI =33 K. A small positive MR effect was observed in the metallic state above T_MI, while a large negative MR effect was observed in the insulating state below T_MI . MR effects exceeding 3000% were found at 1 K at a field of 9 T. As a result, we confirmed the crossover from the insulating state to a state with a small or partial band gap in a field up to 56 T. Furthermore, from the MR effect in Eu2Ir2O7 (T_MI = 120 K) and Gd2_2Ir2_2O7_7 (T_MI = 127 K), we revealed that the large negative MR effect of the pyrochlore iridate Ln2Ir2O7 depends on the magnetism of the lanthanide Ln^{3+} ion. The d-f interaction plays a significant role in the large negative MR effect in the insulating state.Comment: 10 pages, 4 figure

    High-Tc Nodeless s_\pm-wave Superconductivity in (Y,La)FeAsO_{1-y} with Tc=50 K: 75As-NMR Study

    We report 75As-NMR study on the Fe-pnictide high-Tc superconductor Y0.95La0.05FeAsO_{1-y} (Y0.95La0.051111) with Tc=50 K that includes no magnetic rare-earth elements. The measurement of the nuclear-spin lattice-relaxation rate 75(1/T1) has revealed that the nodeless bulk superconductivity takes place at Tc=50 K while antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations (AFSFs) develop moderately in the normal state. These features are consistently described by the multiple fully-gapped s_\pm-wave model based on the Fermi-surface (FS) nesting. Incorporating the theory based on band calculations, we propose that the reason that Tc=50 K in Y0.95La0.051111 is larger than Tc=28 K in La1111 is that the FS multiplicity is maximized, and hence the FS nesting condition is better than that in La1111.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures, accepted for publication in Phys Rev.     Magnon linewidth of La_1.2 Sr_1.8 Mn_2 O_7 near the Brillouin zone boundary is investigated from both theoretical and experimental points of view.     Radical cation salts of TTF donors with XF6 (X = Re,Ta) anions

    Electrocrystallization of the dianionic Re(IV)F6 species with different organic π electron donors was carried out. Depending on the first oxidation potential of the TTF derivatives this crystallization technique gave rise to various radical cations salts involving Re(IV) or Re(V) anions. With tetramethyltetrathiafulvalene (TMTTF) the (TMTTF)2Re(IV)F6  salt was obtained. However, with tetramethyltetraselenafulvalene (TMTSF) we obtained very small needles of the (TMTSeF)2Re(V)F6 system, analogue to the so called “Bechgaard salts” [1]. We present some characteristics of this new metallic phase. We compare to the diamagnetic (TMTSeF)2Ta(V)F6 obtained by the same strategy using TBATaF6 prepared according to the Browstein’s method [2] and explore electrocrystallization of the tantalum based anions [3], [4].     High concentration of ammonia in shrimps pond sediment due to the accumulation of feed excessive will become negative impact to the shrimp culture. Therefore, increasing the indigenous microbial abilities in minimizing toxicity effect of ammonia through biotransformation of ammonia into nitrite and nitrate is very important for shrimp growth and health.Isolation and identification of nitrifying microbes has been done. The number of microbes isolated form shrimps pond are six namely 2p, 2k, 3p, 1p, 3k, and 2. The number of isolated microbes in aquaculturing pond (T-bd) is five and in post harvest pond (T-pp) is three.In T-bd samples, autotroph nitrifying microbes are 2(k), 2(p) and 3(p), but 1(p) and 3(k) as heterotroph nitrifying microbes. And in T-pp samples, autotroph nitrifying microbe is 3(p), except 2 and 3(k) as heterotroph nitrifying microbes. The rank of effectivness In nitrifying activity is 2k, 3p and 2p respectively

    Spin-orbit coupling inactivity of Co2+^{2+} ion in geometrically frustrated magnet GeCo2_2O4_4

    We report single-crystal neutron diffraction studies on a spinel antiferromagnet GeCo2_2O4_4, which exhibits magnetic order with a trigonal propagation vector and tetragonal lattice expansion (c/a≃1.001c/a\simeq1.001) below TN=21T_{\rm N}=21 K. For this inconsistency between spin and lattice in symmetry, magnetic Bragg reflections with a tetragonal propagation vector were discovered below TNT_{\rm N}.
