Los grupos de poder local en Galicia, 1750-1850

Este artículo estudia el poder local en Galicia en la etapa final del Antiguo Régimen. Son identificados los grupos que lo ejercían y sus interrelaciones, y se analizan los recursos en que se basaba su posición y la incidencia de sus acciones sobre la vida cotidiana de la población rural. Un amplio conjunto de hidalgos rentistas, cargos señoriales y párrocos extendían su influencia por todo el territorio, en una compleja red de interdependencias basadas en el clientelismo, el parentesco y la amistad. Se abordan, por último, los cambios que introdujo la Revolución liberal en la organización y funcionamiento del poder local.This study of local power in Galicia during the final stages of the Ancien Régime, identifies the social groups involved, their interrelationships, their resources and the effects of their activities upon the everyday life of the rural population. A broad association of noble “rentiers”, seigneurial agents and parish priest extended their influence throughout the region in a complex network of interdependence based on patronage, kinship and friendship. Una filosofía de la literatura ha de ocuparse de dos problemas de honda significación para la Antropología Filosófica; por un lado, la dimensión existencial de la literatura: el porqué de la inveterada afición humana a crear y a instalarse en mundos de ficción. Por otra parte, la cuestión de la onticidad de las realidades literarias: en palabras de Unamuno,”¿quién es más real, Cervantes o don Quijote”?A philosophy of literature must address two problems of deep significance for Philosophical Anthropology. The first concerns the existential aspect of literature: wherefore the inveterate propensity of humankind to create and live in fictitious worlds? The second is the onticity of literary reality: in Unamuno's words, "Who is more real, Cervantes or Don Quixote?

Los mayores productores agrarios de Galicia en la segunda mitad del siglo XVIII

Editada en la Universidad Carlos IIIA través de una fuente poco conocida pero de gran utilidad y disponible para toda España, el «excusado», hemos determinado el volumen de producción y el excedente obtenido por un amplio conjunto de las mayores explotaciones agrarias de Galicia en el siglo XVIII. Nuestra principal conclusión ha sido que en Galicia, a diferencia de lo que parece haber sucedido en otras regiones de la España septentrional, no llegó a consolidarse una élite de explotaciones con capacidad para obtener un excedente apreciable, y que predominaban los campesinos que se hallaban por debajo del nivel de subsistencia. Insistimos en que este hecho debe ser considerado uno de los factores que dificultó la modernización del sector agrario gallego en el siglo XIX.From a little known but very useful source, the «excusado», I have determined the production volume and the surplus obtained from a wide sample of large farms in the Spanish region of Galicia during XVIIIth. century. The main conclusion is that, in contrast to other regions in northern Spain, no group of large farmers with a marketable surplus was formed, and most peasant farmers lived below subsistence levels. I argue that this was a major factor in hindering the modernization of Galician agriculture during the XIXth. century.Publicad

Analysis of the Behaviour of Biofuel-Fired Gas Turbine Power Plants

The utilisation of biofuels in gas turbines is a promising alternative to fossil fuels for power generation. It would lead to significant reduction of CO2 emissions using an existing combustion technology, although significant changes seem to be needed and further technological development is necessary. The goal of this work is to perform energy and exergy analyses of the behaviour of gas turbines fired with biogas, ethanol and synthesis gas (bio-syngas), compared with natural gas. The global energy transformation process (i.e. from biomass to electricity) has also been studied. Furthermore, the potential reduction of CO2 emissions attained by the use of biofuels has been determined, considering the restrictions regarding biomass availability. Two different simulation tools have been used to accomplish the aims of this work. The results suggest a high interest and the technical viability of the use of Biomass Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (BIGCC) systems for large scale power generation
