    Design of a New Telescope Control System for Use in Astronomical Transient Events

    Robotic autonomous telescopes provide highlevel control by selecting astronomical targets for observation, and they usually run under the control of a scheduler. TalonVIEW is a newly designed robotic autonomous telescope control system (TCS) for 16 inches telescope mount for use in astronomical transient events. The telescope control algorithm was implemented in PXI chassis written in GProgramming (LabVIEW) on realtime operating system(PharLab) from scratch. A new TCP/IP library was also implemented in Talon software to communicate with Pharlab in PXI chassis. Initial setup without any permanent pier and polar alignment showed that the pointing error of the telescope has been obtained as 2.22 arcminutes (132 arcseconds) in RA axis (horizontal axis of the image) and 25 arcseconds in Dec axis (vertical axis of the image), and tracking error has been observed as 4.8 arcseconds per second

    Contrubition of Laparoscopic Level Determination on Hirschsprung Disease Diagnosis and Management

    Aim:Laparoscopic-assisted transanal pull-through (LATP) is a procedure that has gained increasing popularity in the management of Hirschsprung’s disease. The purpose of this study was to compare outcomes of patients treated with LATP and transanal pull-through (TPT).Methods:Records of 45 patients with Hirschsprung’s disease who underwent surgery between 2006 and 2017 were retrospectively evaluated.Results:LATP was performed in 16 patients [13 male (81%), three female (19%)]. The median age of the patients was four months (7 days-84 months). Twenty nine patients [21 male (72.4%), eight female (27.6%)] underwent TPT. The median age of the patients was 11 months (10 days-90 months). The mean time to start feeding in LATP and TPT groups was two days (one-three days) and 2.6 days, respectively (p=0.074). The mean operative time was 2.6 hours in the LATP group (two-four hours) and 2.7 hours in the TPT group (p=0.971). The mean length of hospital stay in for LATP and TPT groups was 4.8 days (two-nine days) and six days (3-14 days), respectively (p=0.305).Conclusion:The advantages of LATP include multiple sample collection from several segments of the colonn at the same time as well as shorter time to frozen section diagnosis. In addition, the possibility of intraabdominal dissection allows transanal surgery to be faster and more effective

    Impact of opioid-free analgesia on pain severity and patient satisfaction after discharge from surgery: multispecialty, prospective cohort study in 25 countries

    Background: Balancing opioid stewardship and the need for adequate analgesia following discharge after surgery is challenging. This study aimed to compare the outcomes for patients discharged with opioid versus opioid-free analgesia after common surgical procedures.Methods: This international, multicentre, prospective cohort study collected data from patients undergoing common acute and elective general surgical, urological, gynaecological, and orthopaedic procedures. The primary outcomes were patient-reported time in severe pain measured on a numerical analogue scale from 0 to 100% and patient-reported satisfaction with pain relief during the first week following discharge. Data were collected by in-hospital chart review and patient telephone interview 1 week after discharge.Results: The study recruited 4273 patients from 144 centres in 25 countries; 1311 patients (30.7%) were prescribed opioid analgesia at discharge. Patients reported being in severe pain for 10 (i.q.r. 1-30)% of the first week after discharge and rated satisfaction with analgesia as 90 (i.q.r. 80-100) of 100. After adjustment for confounders, opioid analgesia on discharge was independently associated with increased pain severity (risk ratio 1.52, 95% c.i. 1.31 to 1.76; P < 0.001) and re-presentation to healthcare providers owing to side-effects of medication (OR 2.38, 95% c.i. 1.36 to 4.17; P = 0.004), but not with satisfaction with analgesia (beta coefficient 0.92, 95% c.i. -1.52 to 3.36; P = 0.468) compared with opioid-free analgesia. Although opioid prescribing varied greatly between high-income and low- and middle-income countries, patient-reported outcomes did not.Conclusion: Opioid analgesia prescription on surgical discharge is associated with a higher risk of re-presentation owing to side-effects of medication and increased patient-reported pain, but not with changes in patient-reported satisfaction. Opioid-free discharge analgesia should be adopted routinely

    Class A log domain elliptic filter design for video frequency applications

    Logaritmik ortam filtreleri literatürde akım modlu ELIN filtreler olarak da bilinmektedir. Genel olarak logaritmik ortam filtre tasarımda trasistörlerin kollektör akımı ve base – emiter gerilimi arasındaki üssel ilişkiden yararlanılmaktadır. Bu çalışmada logaritmik ortamda A – sınıfında video frekans uygulamaları için eliptik filtre tasarımının gerçekleştirilmesi hedeflenmiştir. Video frekans uygulamalarında kullanılmak üzere ITU BT 601 standartları hedeflenerek filtre tipi eliptik filtre ve derecesi de 7 olarak belirlenmiştir. 7. dereceden eliptik filtrenin logaritmik ortamda A – sınıfında gerçekleştirilebilmesi için bazı şartların yerine getirilmesi gerekmektedir. Bu şartlardan en belirleyici olanı logaritmik ortamda akım ve gerilim değerlerinin daima pozitif seviyede kalması gerektiğidir. Böyle bir şartı 7. derece gibi eliptik yaklaşıma sahip bir filtre için A – sınıfında sağlamak kolay değildir. Bu sebepten dolayı bu şartı sağlayan pasif elemanların logaritmik ortam eşdeğeri olan A – sınıfı logaritmik ortam blok yapıları kullanılarak filtre sentezi yapılmıştır. Bu yöntemle istenen özellikleri sağlayan pasif filtre devresi logaritmik ortama aktarılmıştır. Tasarlanan devreye ilişkin benzetim sonuçları Pspice benzetim programı yardımıyla elde edilmiş ve karşılaştırılmalı olarak verilmiştir. Bu çalışmanın gelecekte gerçekleştirilecek olan video frekans uygulamaları ve logaritmik ortam filtre devreleri konusundaki çalışmalara ışık tutabilmesi ümit edilmektedir.Log domain filters are known as current mode ELIN filters as well. Generally, the exponantional relationship of BJT between collector current and base emiter voltage is used to design the log domain filters. In this work, class A log domain filter design is desired for video frequency applications. The specifications for video frequency applications was determined by using ITU BT 601 standarts and the type of the filter was determined as elliptic filter, the order of the filter to be designed was chosen as 7. The conditions for 7th order elliptic filter in log domain should be implemented. The most deterministic one of those conditions is that currents and voltages should always be positive in log domain. It is not easy to implement that kind of condition for high order filters as 7th order elliptic one. Therefore, the simulating topology of passive prototypes to log domain by using E cells method was chosen in order to design the metioned filter. By using that method, the passive filter could be easily transfer to the log domain. Simulation results associated with the designed circuit were obtained by means of Pspice simulation program and the results were exhibited for comparison purposes. It is expected that this work would be lead for future studies about the video frequency applications and log domain filters

    Araştırmanın amacı, kavramsal değişim yaklaşımının Fen ve Teknoloji dersinde öğrencilerin fen bilimlerine yönelik tutumlarına ve motivasyonlarına etkisini araştırmaktır. Çalışma grubunu, 2010-2011 eğitim - öğretim yılında Kırşehir İl merkezinde bulunan ve bir ilkokulda okuyan 50 beşinci sınıf öğrencisi oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada veri toplama araçları olarak, tutum ve motivasyon ölçekleri kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın genel sonucu olarak, kavramsal değişim yaklaşımı uygulamaları sonucunda, deney grubu öğrencilerinin motivasyonlarında anlamlı bir değişiklik gözlenirken, deney ve kontrol gruplarındaki öğrencilerin tutumlarında bir değişiklik gözlenmemiştir.This study is aimed to investigate effects of conceptual change method on students’ attitudes toward science, and motivation in Science and Technology Course. The research took place at a primary school in Kırşehir province, 2010-2011 education years. The research sample consisted of 50 fifth-grade students. Attitude Inventory and Motivation Inventory were used to collect the data. The research findings revealed that there was significant difference in terms of students’ motivation at treatment group and there was no significant difference in terms of students’ attitude at all groups

    Araştırmanın amacı, öğrencilerin "Canlıların Dünyasını Gezelim, Tanıyalım" ile "Işık ve Ses" ünitelerindeki konularda, öğrenme stillerine göre kavramsal değişim yaklaşımı içerisine giren kavramsal değişim metinlerinin ve kavram haritalarının, öğrenci başarısına etkisini incelemektir. Araştırmanınçalışma grubunu, 2010-2011 eğitim - öğretim yılında Kırşehir İl merkezinde bulunan 1 tane ilköğretim okulunun 5. sınıfında öğrenim gören 50 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Araştırma 'deneysel desen' modelinde gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmada veri toplama araçları olarak, her iki ünite için araştırmacı tarafından geliştirilen başarı testleri ve Kolb öğrenme stilleri envanteri kullanılmıştır. Başarı testi madde analizi sonuçları (KR-20) birinci ünite için 0,84 ve ikinci ünite için 0.88 olarak bulunmuştur. Ayrıca Kolb öğrenme stilleri envanterinin dört boyutuna ait güvenirlik katsayıları (Cronbach ?) 0,73 ile 0,83 arasında değişmektedir.Araştırma sonucu, kavramsal değişim yaklaşımının ilköğretim programına uygun öğretime göre, her dört öğrenme stillerine sahip öğrencilerin kavram başarı puanlarını artırmada bir etkiye sahip olmadığını göstermektedir.The aim of the research was to investigate effects of conceptual change passages and concept maps parts of conceptual change teaching method on the students' achievement according to learning styles in "Let's Travel and See Living Creatures World" and "Light and Sound" themes. The research took place in one primary school in Kırşehir province, 2010-2011 education years. The research sample consisted of 50 fifth-grade students. Achievement tests and Kolb Learning Styles Inventory were used to collect the data. Achievement test's data analyses results (KR-20) were found for the first theme is 0,84 and for the second theme is 0,88. Also Kolb Learning Styles Inventory's four dimensions of reliability scores are between 0,73 and 0,83. From this result, it would be implied that it would not be the effectiveness of science teaching on students by means of using students' learning styles as instructional tool

    A new software on TUG-T60 autonomous telescope for astronomical transient events

    Robotic telescopes usually run under the control of a scheduler, which provides high-level control by selecting astronomical targets for observation. TUBITAK (Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey) National Observatory (TUG)-T60 Robotic Telescope is controlled by open-source OCAAS software, formally named Talon. This study introduces new software which was designed for Talon to catch GRB, GAIA and transient alerts. The new GRB software module (daemon process) alertd is running with all other modules of Talon such as telescoped; focus, dome; camerad and telrun. Maximum slew velocity and acceleration limits of the T60 telescope are enough fast for the GRB and transient observations
