Multiscale statistical analysis of coronal solar activity

Multi-filter images from the solar corona are used to obtain temperature maps which are analyzed using techniques based on proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) in order to extract dynamical and structural information at various scales. Exploring active regions before and after a solar flare and comparing them with quiet regions we show that the multiscale behavior presents distinct statistical properties for each case that can be used to characterize the level of activity in a region. Information about the nature of heat transport is also be extracted from the analysis.Comment: 24 pages, 18 figure

Algoritmo del sistema de aprendizaje profundo usando retinografía como método de diagnostico precoz de neuropatía óptica glaucomatosa basado en la relación Copa/Disco y la regla ISNT

La neuropatía óptica glaucomatosa es considerada mundialmente una de las primeras causas de ceguera, y la primera causa de forma irreversible, ésta se produce por daño del nervio óptico del ojo. Objetivo: Determinar la precisión diagnóstica del algoritmo del Sistema de Aprendizaje Profundo (Deep Learning) para detectar la neuropatía óptica glaucomatosa utilizando la retinografía. Métodos: Se realizó una revisión sistemática y metaanálisis, en las siguientes bases de datos: Pubmed, Scopus, Web of Science, Ovid-Medline, Ovid-Embase. Se aplicaron los criterios de selección en dos fases respectivamente: primero por título y resumen y luego a texto completo. Luego de esto, se extrajeron las características más relevantes de cada estudio y se realizó el análisis de sesgo utilizando el QUADAS-2, para finalmente meta analizar los resultados usando el software Stata v14. Resultados: Se obtuvieron 300 resultados al realizar las búsquedas en las 5 bases de datos, incluyéndose finalmente 8. En el análisis de sesgo, el dominio más afectado en la mayoría de estudios, fue el de la selección de pacientes; seguido por el de la prueba índice. Finalmente, al combinar los resultados se obtuvo una sensibilidad de 0.90 con un IC al 95% que va de 0.86 a 0.94 y una especificidad que va de 0.93 con un IC al 95% que va de 0.90 a 0.96. Conclusiones: El uso del sistema de aprendizaje profundo para la detección de GON ofrece una sensibilidad y especificidad aceptable respecto a la capacidad de detección de oftalmólogos especializados.Glaucomatous optic neuropathy is considered one of the leading causes of blindness worldwide, and the leading cause irreversibly, it is caused by damage to the optic nerve of the eye. Objective: To determine the diagnostic accuracy of the Deep Learning System algorithm to detect glaucomatous optic neuropathy using retinography. Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis was carried out in the following databases: Pubmed, Scopus, Web of Science, Ovid-Medline, Ovid-Embase. The selection criteria were applied in two phases respectively: first by title and abstract and then by full text. After this, the most relevant characteristics of each study were extracted and the bias analysis was performed using QUADAS-2, to finally meta-analyze the results using Stata v14 software. Results: 300 results were obtained when searching the 5 databases, finally including 8. In the bias analysis, the most affected domain in most studies was patient selection; followed by that of the index test. Finally, when combining the results, a sensitivity of 0.90 with a 95% CI ranging from 0.86 to 0.94 and a specificity ranging from 0.93 with a 95% CI ranging from 0.90 to 0.96 were obtained. Conclusions: The use of deep learning systems for the detection of GON offers acceptable sensitivity and specificity with respect to detection capacity of specialized ophthalmologists.Tesi

Health state perception of people close to retirement age: Relationship with lifestyle habits and subjects’ characteristics

Aim: Societal ageing increases the need for correct and healthy ageing to ensure the well-being of older adults. Practical strategies are needed to acquire healthy habits for the ageing process. This study aims to analyse the lifestyle habits of subjects who are retired or close to retirement and identify factors that could influence their perceived health and that could be related to these habits. Methods: A Spanish observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study of subjects close to retirement-age. Socio-demographic, family, work, leisure, social, and clinical-psychological indicators were evaluated. Results: 1,700 participants (581 employed; 714 retirees; 405 other-status) were included, average age 63 years, 52% women. Most reported a satisfactory social life (90%), were in live-in relationships (74%), non-smoking (80%), followed a Mediterranean diet (73%), and took medicines daily (70%). Perceived health (EQ-VAS) was 75.9/100, with low disability (12-WHODAS) (7.4/ 100) and moderate/severe depression. Women reported higher disability (p < 0.001) and depression (p < 0.001), a better social life, and healthier lifestyle, but lower physical/work activity. Retirees reported less depression, better social life, healthier lifestyle, higher physical/work activity, and better sleeping habits. The multivariate model showed a significant association of health-status with disability level, number of chronic diseases, sleep habits, exercise, diet, and alcohol consumption. When depression level was introduced, age and being a woman were also related. Conclusions: Retirement does not mean worse health but rather an opportunity to reinforce favourable health activities and improve lifestyle factors. Piaget y Van Hiele en la enseñanza y aprendizaje del desarrollo de la capacidad para hacer representaciones bidimensionales de cuerpos tridimensionales

El presente trabajo de investigación, pretendía demostrar si las acciones del docente enfocadas en las fases de aprendizaje de Van Hiele, podían favorecer el desarrollo de la capacidad de elaborar representaciones bidimensionales de cuerpos tridimensionales a partir de los primeros dos niveles de razonamiento de la teoría de Van Hiele y el uso de la teoría de Piaget sobre el espacio proyectivo y euclidiano en el diseño e implementación de una estrategia didáctica. Esto surgió de la necesidad de darle un cambio a la enseñanza de la geometría en las escuelas, pues está, se basa en aprendizajes memorísticos y guiados por conceptos geométricos de los cuales no se tiene una comprensión, además de que las representaciones se realizan a partir de figuras bidimensionales y no tridimensionales, olvidando que el mundo que rodea a los estudiantes es tridimensional. La investigación tuvo sus orígenes en el aula de clase del Liceo Cuba en el grado cuarto de primaria, en donde se implementó la estrategia didáctica, durante su implementación se tomó registros que guiaron la elaboración del análisis y la interpretación. A partir de estos se pudo concluir que las acciones del docente basadas en las fases de aprendizaje (información, explicitación, orientación dirigida, orientación libre e integración), pueden ayudar a avanzar en el nivel de razonamiento de los estudiantes y en la elaboración de las representaciones bidimensional de cuerpos tridimensionales, donde se logró evidenciar en estas, el empleo de las propiedades de profundidad, grosor, medidas, etc. Por medio de esta investigación se busca aportar a los docentes una visión diferente sobre la enseñanza de la geometría y entre uno de los puntos a resaltar es que tengan en cuenta, que el aprendizaje depende más de su enseñanza y actividades propuestas que de la madurez y edad del estudiante

Análisis operativo de los principales puertos del litoral Pacífico suramericano

Este trabajo se centra en las oportunidades que representan para Colombia en términos de infraestructura y competitividad portuaria frente a los pares latinoamericanos con puertos en el Pacífico. Así, el análisis se centra en la situación actual del puerto más representativo del país en esta costa, Puerto de Buenaventura, con respecto a la situación que presentan los terminales más avanzados de este litoral como son los Puertos del Callao en Perú y de Valparaíso en Chile. De la misma forma, se aborda el contexto económico de cada país identificando claramente las características mercantiles e industriales, que de la mano con sus políticas comerciales, dan como resultado el avance o retroceso de sus puertos. Estas terminales son las que finalmente determinaran si un país está en condición de participar activamente el comercio internacional y el nivel de preparación para afrontar el mundo globalizado. Por último, se busca determinar los puntos a favor y las deficiencias de los puertos colombianos frente a los otros 2 en cuestión para determinar qué tan lejos está el país de los puertos más grandes, eficientes y modernos del mundo, y las recomendaciones a seguir para convertirse en puertos dinámicos y productivos que solo traigan beneficios a Colombia.This thesis focuses on the opportunities that are presented to Colombia in terms of infrastructure and seaport competitiveness against those terminals at the Pacific coast region. Thus, the analysis focuses on the current situation of the country's most representative port on this coast, Buenaventura Harbor, in comparison to those with more advanced conditions on the Pacific such as the Ports of Callao in Peru and Valparaiso in Chile. This way, the document also addresses to the economic context of each country identifying commercial and industrial characteristics that along with their trade policies, result in the advance or retreat of its Seaports. These terminals are the ones that ultimately determine whether a country is in a position to participate actively on the international trade and the level of preparedness to face the globalized world. Finally, it seeks to determine the pros and shortcomings of the Colombian ports versus the other two being analyzed in order to determine how far away is the country's ports against the largest, efficient and modern ports in the world, and to give some recommendations so the terminals could become the kind of ports that are sufficiently dynamic and productive that could only bring benefits to Colombia.Centro de Estudios Empresariales para la Perdurabilida

Diagnóstico termográfico de la subestación de energía eléctrica del edificio 1, bloque B-BB, piso 0-P0 de la Universidad Tecnológica de Pereira

Se estudiaron los principios de la termografía y propiedades térmicas que posee cada material para configurar correctamente la cámara térmica Fluke TI32 e identificar problemas en la subestación eléctrica del edificio 1, bloque B-BB, piso 0-P0. Basados en la teoría de la termografía se realizó un diagnóstico en la subestación eléctrica y un análisis de cada imagen capturada. Para el análisis de las imágenes se utilizó el paquete computacional SmartView, el cual lo incluye la cámara térmica Fluke TI32, cada una de éstas imágenes tiene una serie de información que facilitó hacer un análisis cualitativo de la subestación eléctrica.Principles of thermography and thermal properties possessed by each material to properly configure the TI32 Fluke thermal camera and identify problems in electrical substation building 1, Block B-BB, 0-P0 floor. Immunophenotypical Switch versus Tumor Heterogeneity in a Patient with HIV-Associated Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma

Patients with HIV/AIDS have a higher risk of developing aggressive B-cell lymphomas, such as diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). Lymphomas are rather heterogeneous in nature and in a few cases can switch their genetic or immunohistochemical phenotype, transform into other lymphomas or carry more than one malignant clone. In this report, we present the case of a 47-year-old man with HIV infection who was diagnosed with an apparent low-risk, early-stage DLBCL, but became refractory to therapy while undergoing treatment with rituximab-containing chemotherapy. We postulate that the development of his refractory disease occurred in the context of an immunohistochemical switch or the surge of a clone refractory to therapy. This phenomenon was not associated with a superinfection with EBV or HHV-8
