Dynamic input to determine hip joint moments, power and work on the prosthetic limb of transfemoral amputees: ground reactions vs knee reactions
Study Design: Comparative analysis\ud
Background: Calculations of lower limbs kinetics are limited by floor-mounted force-plates.\ud
Objectives: Comparison of hip joint moments, power and mechanical work on the prosthetic limb of a transfemoral amputee calculated by inverse dynamics using either the ground reactions (force-plates) or knee reactions (transducer).\ud
Methods: Kinematics, ground reactions and knee reactions were collected using a motion analysis system, two force-plates and a multi-axial transducer mounted below the socket, respectively.\ud
Results: The inverse dynamics using ground reactions under-estimated the peaks of hip energy generation and absorption occurring at 63 % and 76 % of the gait cycle (GC) by 28 % and 54 %, respectively. This method over-estimated a phase of negative work at the hip (from 37 %GC to 56 %GC) by 24%. It under-estimated the phases of positive (from 57 %GC to 72 %GC) and negative (from 73 %GC to 98 %GC) work at the hip by 11 % and 58%, respectively.\ud
Conclusions: A transducer mounted within the prosthesis has the capacity to provide more realistic kinetics of the prosthetic limb because it enables assessment of multiple consecutive steps and a wide range of activities without issues of foot placement on force-plates
Cross Section Measurements of Hard Diffraction at the SPS-Collider
The UA8 experiment previously reported the observation of jets in diffractive
events containing leading protons (``hard diffraction''), which was interpreted
as evidence for the partonic structure of an exchanged Reggeon, believed to be
the Pomeron . In the present Letter, we report the final UA8 hard-diffractive
(jet) cross section results and their interpretation. After corrections, the
fraction of single diffractive events with mass from 118 to 189 GeV that have
two scattered partons, each with Et_jet > 8 GeV, is in the range 0.002 to 0.003
(depending on x_p). We determine the product, fK, of the fraction by which the
Pomeron's momentum sum rule is violated and the normalization constant of the
Pomeron-Flux-Factor of the proton. For a pure gluonic- or a pure qqbar-Pomeron
, respectively: fK = 0.30 +- 0.05 +- 0.09) and (0.56 +- 0.09 +- 0.17) GeV^-2.Comment: 20 pages, 5 Encapsulated Postscript figures, LaTex, Final Version,

A Study of Inclusive Double-Pomeron-Exchange in p pbar -> p X pbar at root s = 630 GeV
We report measurements of the inclusive reaction, p pbar -> p X pbar, in
events where either or both the beam-like final-state baryons were detected in
Roman-pot spectrometers and the central system was detected in the UA2
calorimeter. A Double-Pomeron-Exchange (DPE) analysis of these data and single
diffractive data from the same experiment demonstrates that, for central masses
of a few GeV, the extracted Pomeron-Pomeron total cross section exhibits an
enhancement which exceeds factorization expectations by an order-of-magnitude.
This may be a signature for glueball production. The enhancement is shown to be
independent of uncertainties connected with possible non-universality of the
Pomeron flux factor. Based on our analysis, we present DPE cross section
predictions, for unit (1 mb) Pomeron-Pomeron total cross section, at the
Tevatron, LHC and the 920 GeV fixed-target experiment, HERA-B.Comment: 52 pages, 27 Encapsulated Postscript figures, 3 Tables, LaTex,

Določanje benzodiazepinov v urinu preko benzofenonskih derivatov z uporabo tekočinske kromatografije sklopljene s tandemsko masno spektrometrijo
The aim of this study was to validate a new method for determining benzodiazepines in urine via their benzophenone derivatives, based on liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS).
Selected benzodiazepines were analysed after acid hydrolysis of urine and extraction by ethyl acetate in the presence of an internal standard. Samples were analysed using electrospray ionization LC-MS/MS in a multiple reaction monitoring mode. The chromatographic run time on a reversed phase C18 analytical column was set for 9 min. This method was validated in 21 patients receiving methadone. Benzodiazepines intake was established in two out of three patients. LC-MS/MS results were also compared with the rapid immunoassay and the methods showed good agreement. However, in three cases benzodiazepines were detected by LC-MS/MS, but not by the immunoassay. The sensitivity of the developed LC-MS/MS method is comparable to or even higher than of previously reported methods, which makes it suitable as a confi rmatory method.
potrditveno metodo
Recent NA48/2 and NA62 results
The NA48/2 Collaboration at CERN has accumulated and analysed unprecedented
statistics of rare kaon decays in the modes: () and ()
with nearly one percent background contamination. It leads to the improved
measurement of branching fractions and detailed form factor studies. New final
results from the analysis of 381 rare decay
candidates collected by the NA48/2 and NA62 experiments at CERN are presented.
The results include a decay rate measurement and fits to Chiral Perturbation
Theory (ChPT) description.Comment: Prepared for the Proceedings of "Moriond QCD and High Energy

Measurement of the branching ratio of the decay
From the 2002 data taking with a neutral kaon beam extracted from the
CERN-SPS, the NA48/1 experiment observed 97 candidates with a background contamination of events.
From this sample, the BR() is measured to be
Measurement of the branching ratios of the decays Xi0 --> Sigma+ e- nubar and anti-Xi0 --> anti-Sigma+ e+ nu
From 56 days of data taking in 2002, the NA48/1 experiment observed 6316 Xi0
--> Sigma+ e- nubar candidates (with the subsequent Sigma+ --> p pi0 decay) and
555 anti-Xi0 --> anti-Sigma+ e+ nu candidates with background contamination of
215+-44 and 136+-8 events, respectively. From these samples, the branching
ratios BR(Xi0 --> Sigma+ e- nubar)= (2.51+-0.03stat+-0.09syst)E(-4) and
BR(anti-Xi0 --> anti-Sigma+ e+ nu)= (2.55+-0.14stat+-0.10syst)E(-4) were
measured allowing the determination of the CKM matrix element |Vus| =
0.209+0.023-0.028. Using the Particle Data Group average for |Vus| obtained in
semileptonic kaon decays, we measured the ratio g1/f1 = 1.20+-0.05 of the
axial-vector to vector form factors.Comment: 16 pages, 11 figures Submitted to Phys.Lett.
A new measurement of direct CP violation in two pion decays of the neutral kaon
The NA48 experiment at CERN has performed a new measurement of direct CP
violation, based on data taken in 1997 by simultaneously collecting K_L and K_S
decays into pi0pi0 and pi+pi-. The result for the CP violating parameter
Re(epsilon'/epsilon) is (18.5 +/- 4.5(stat)} +/- 5.8 (syst))x10^{-4}.Comment: 18 pages, 6 figure
Observation of the rare decay K_S -> pi^0mu^+mu^-
A search for the decay K_S -> pi^0mu^+mu^- has been made by the NA48/1
Collaboration at the CERN SPS accelerator. The data were collected during 2002
with a high-intensity K_S beam. Six events were found with a background
expectation of 0.22^+0.18_-0.11 event. Using a vector matrix element and unit
form factor, the measured branching ratio is B(K_S ->
pi^0mu^+mu^-)=[2.9^+1.5_-1.2(stat)+/-0.2(syst)]x10^{-9}.Comment: 19 pages, 8 figures, 4 tables. To be published in Physics Letters
