An experimental study on a motion sensing system for sports training
In sports science, motion data collected from athletes is
used to derive key performance characteristics, such as stride length
and stride frequency, that are vital coaching support information. The
sensors for use must be more accurate, must capture more vigorous
events, and have strict weight and size requirements, since they must
not themselves affect performance. These requirements mean each
wireless sensor device is necessarily resource poor and yet must be
capable of communicating a considerable amount of data, contending
for the bandwidth with other sensors on the body. This paper analyses
the results of a set of network traffic experiments that were designed
to investigate the suitability of conventional wireless motion sensing
system design ïżœ which generally assumes in-network processing - as
an efficient and scalable design for use in sports training
Compressing Inertial Motion Data in Wireless Sensing Systems â An Initial Experiment
The use of wireless inertial motion sensors, such as accelerometers, for supporting medical care and sportâs training, has been under investigation in recent years. As the number of sensors (or their sampling rates) increases, compressing data at source(s) (i.e. at the sensors), i.e. reducing the quantity of data that needs to be transmitted between the on-body sensors and the remote repository, would be essential especially in a bandwidth-limited wireless environment. This paper presents a set of compression experiment results on a set of inertial motion data collected during running exercises. As a starting point, we selected a set of common compression algorithms to experiment with. Our results show that, conventional lossy compression algorithms would achieve a desirable compression ratio with an acceptable time delay. The results also show that the quality of the decompressed data is within acceptable range
Intense terahertz laser fields on a two-dimensional electron gas with Rashba spin-orbit coupling
The spin-dependent density of states and the density of spin polarization of
an InAs-based two-dimensional electron gas with the Rashba spin-orbit coupling
under an intense terahertz laser field are investigated by utilizing the
Floquet states to solve the time-dependent Schr\"odinger equation.
It is found that both densities are strongly affected by the terahertz laser
field. Especially a terahertz magnetic moment perpendicular to the external
terahertz laser field in the electron gas is induced. This effect can be used
to convert terahertz electric signals into terahertz magnetic ones efficiently.Comment: 3 pages, 3 figures, a typo in Fig. 3(b) is correcte
Efficient identity-based broadcast encryption without random oracles.
We propose a new efficient identity-based broadcast encryption scheme without random oracles and prove that it achieves selective identity, chosen plaintext security. Our scheme is constructed based on bilinear Diffie-Hellman inversion assumption and it is a good efficient hybrid encryption scheme, which achieves O(1)-size ciphertexts, public parameters and constant size private keys. In our scheme, either ciphertexts or public parameters has no relation with the number of receivers, moreover, both the encryption and decryption only require one pairing computation. Compared with other identity-based broadcast encryption schemes, our scheme has comparable properties, but with a better efficiency
The effect of parental opportunism, IJV's autonomy and tacit knowledge on IJV instability: A comparison of multi-variate regression and fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis
This study uses an agency theory perspective to examine how the factors that influence principal (IJV parents) and agent (IJV) relationship may affect IJV instability in China. The study proposes a framework that bridges knowledge-based theory (of tacit knowledge) and agency theory (of parental opportunism) by incorporating reactance theory (of autonomy). By comparing the empirical results of fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) and multiple regression analysis, using a sample of 203 Chinese-foreign IJVs, the study add further evidence to growing methodological consideration regarding complexity theory. The results from multiple regressions show that parental opportunism and IJVâs autonomy has a positive effect on IJVâs instability, and that the interaction of autonomy and tacit knowledge moderates the effect of parental opportunism on IJV instability. However, fsQCA uncovers more causal paths than findings from multiple regression analysis
Parsec-scale jet properties of the gamma-ray quasar 3C 286
The quasar 3C~286 is one of two compact steep spectrum sources detected by
the {\it Fermi}/LAT. Here, we investigate the radio properties of the
parsec(pc)-scale jet and its (possible) association with the -ray
emission in 3C~286. The Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) images at
various frequencies reveal a one-sided core--jet structure extending to the
southwest at a projected distance of 1 kpc. The component at the jet base
showing an inverted spectrum is identified as the core, with a mean brightness
temperature of ~K. The jet bends at about 600 pc (in
projection) away from the core, from a position angle of to
. Based on the available VLBI data, we inferred the proper motion
speed of the inner jet as mas yr (), corresponding to a jet speed of about at an inclination
angle of between the jet and the line of sight of the observer. The
brightness temperature, jet speed and Lorentz factor are much lower than those
of -ray-emitting blazars, implying that the pc-scale jet in 3C~286 is
mildly relativistic. Unlike blazars in which -ray emission is in
general thought to originate from the beamed innermost jet, the location and
mechanism of -ray emission in 3C~286 may be different as indicated by
the current radio data. Multi-band spectrum fitting may offer a complementary
diagnostic clue of the -ray production mechanism in this source.Comment: 9 pages, 4 figures, accept for publication in MNRA
A distributed anomaly detection system for in-vehicle network using HTM
With the development of 5G and Internet of Vehicles technology, the possibility of remote wireless attack on an in-vehicle network has been proven by security researchers. Anomaly detection technology can effectively alleviate the security threat, as the first line of security defense. Based on this, this paper proposes a distributed anomaly detection system using hierarchical temporal memory (HTM) to enhance the security of a vehicular controller area network bus. The HTM model can predict the flow data in real time, which depends on the state of the previous learning. In addition, we improved the abnormal score mechanism to evaluate the prediction. We manually synthesized field modification and replay attack in data field. Compared with recurrent neural networks and hidden Markov model detection models, the results show that the distributed anomaly detection system based on HTM networks achieves better performance in the area under receiver operating characteristic curve score, precision, and recall
Pair loading in Gamma-Ray Burst Fireball And Prompt Emission From Pair-Rich Reverse Shock
Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) are believed to originate from ultra-relativistic
winds/fireballs to avoid the "compactness problem". However, the most energetic
photons in GRBs may still suffer from absorption leading to
electron/positron pair production in the winds/fireballs. We show here that in
a wide range of model parameters, the resulting pairs may dominate those
electrons associated with baryons. Later on, the pairs would be carried into a
reverse shock so that a shocked pair-rich fireball may produce a strong flash
at lower frequencies, i.e. in the IR band, in contrast with optical/UV emission
from a pair-poor fireball. The IR emission would show a 5/2 spectral index due
to strong self-absorption. Rapid responses to GRB triggers in the IR band would
detect such strong flashes. The future detections of many IR flashes will infer
that the rarity of prompt optical/UV emissions is in fact due to dust
obscuration in the star formation regions.Comment: 8 pages, 2 figures, ApJ accepte
