Tamaños poblacionales y regeneración de Prunus lusitanica L. en el noreste de la Península Ibérica

En el noreste de la península Ibérica se localizan plantas relacionadas con la flora y vegetación subtropical del Terciario como el árbol de hoja perenne Prunus lusitanica L. En este trabajo se aportan datos precisos del tamaño de sus poblaciones, su estructura y reclutamiento poblacional y su capacidad de regeneración asexual y se proponen algunas medidas para avanzar en su conservación. Se registran algo más de 1000 ejemplares, repartidos en 12 poblaciones que no parecen presentar limitaciones en el reclutamiento poblacional pues suelen abundar los individuos juveniles. Además, presenta regeneración asexual mediante rebrotes basales y acodos que es muy variable entre individuos y poblaciones.The northeast of the Iberian Peninsula is home to the evergreen cherry tree Prunus lusitanica L., an emblematic relict tree species related to the Tertiary flora. This study provides precise data on its population sizes, demographic structure, population recruitment and asexual regeneration capacity. In addition, some management recommendations are proposed for the conservation of the species. In total, over 1000 individuals have been recorded, distributed in 12 populations. Despite of the small population sizes no recruitment limitation has been detected since juveniles are the most abundant in most of the studied populations. Prunus lusitanica also shows asexual regeneration by means of layering shoots and basal shoots and is highly variable among individuals and populations

Distribución de "Festuca patula" Desf. en la Península Ibérica; ecología y tamaños poblacionales de sus poblaciones en Las Villuercas y Los Montes de Toledo (CW de España)

Population sizes and habitat types of Festuca patula Desf. are reported for Las Villuercas and Los Montes de Toledo regions (CW Spain). The distribution range of Festuca patula in the Iberian Peninsula is increased with 21 new records: one for Sierra Nevada (Granada, S Spain) and 20 for The Villuercas and Los Montes de Toledo (Cáceres, Toledo and Ciudad Real). The individuals of the latter areas grow under different environmental conditions. They live on rocky or relatively well-developed soils derived from metamorphic rocks, ranging from 300 to 900 m above sea level. They usually grow in temperate caducifolious and marcescent forests but also colonize open scrubs on rocky slopes, often bordering riparian stands. Most of the populations contain less than 100 individuals; only one population has more than 1,000. The population sizes are apparently larger on shady wooded sites with relatively well-developed soils than in rocky sites.Se presentan datos sobre el tamaño de las poblaciones y las preferencias de hábitat de Festuca patula Desf. en Las Villuercas y Los Montes de Toledo (CW de España). Se amplia la información corológica para la península con 21 localidades nuevas: una en Sierra Nevada (Granada) y el resto en Las Villuercas y Los Montes de Toledo (Cáceres, Toledo y Ciudad Real). Las poblaciones de estos dos últimos territorios habitan en distintas condiciones ambientales. Se encuentran entre los 300 y 1.000 m de altitud, instaladas en sustratos metamórficos, creciendo en el sotobosque de frondosas (quejigos, alcornoques, encinas, castaños, etc.) y en los claros de matorrales en laderas rocosas que, en numerosas ocasiones, limitan con formaciones riparias (caracterizadas por alisos, fresnos, sauces, etc.). La mayoría de las poblaciones están integradas por menos de 100 ejemplares y solamente dos alcanzan o superan los 1.000 individuos. Occupy Wall Street: The movement in its third anniversary

Peer-reviewedThe emergence of networked social movements in 2011 has opened a new door in the social movements' literature. By adopting a technopolitical and situated approach, in this paper, we explore the case of the Occupy Wall Street movement three years after its formation in September 2011. Through an online survey and a nonprobabilistic sampling procedure, we pay special attention to the perceptions and opinions of the movement's participants. We distinguish seven thematic sections: the relationship with the movement, previous political participation and motivations, the use of information and communication technologies (ICTs), the emotions experienced, the evolution of the movement, its influence on institutional politics, and its impacts on several aspects of social life. The results show that the respondents (N=522) are overall adherent to the movement and that the majority participated at some point. Most think that the movement still exists in one way or another, and perceive its impact on several areas, institutions, behaviours, and ideas. We conclude by describing OWS as a case that adequately fits the concept of a networked social movement. Finally, we suggest further developments in the understanding of these movements by further applying the online survey designed for this study and complementing analyses via other research methods.La aparición de los movimientos sociales en red en 2011 ha abierto una nueva puerta en la literatura de los movimientos sociales. Al adoptar un enfoque tecnopolítico y situado, en este documento, exploramos el caso del movimiento Occupy Wall Street tres años después de su creación en septiembre de 2011. A través de una encuesta en línea y un procedimiento de muestreo no probabilístico, prestamos especial atención a las percepciones y opiniones de los participantes del movimiento. Distinguimos siete secciones temáticas: la relación con el movimiento, la participación y motivaciones políticas previas, el uso de las tecnologías de información y comunicación (TIC), las emociones experimentadas, la evolución del movimiento, su influencia en la política institucional y sus impactos en varios aspectos de la vida social. Los resultados muestran que los encuestados (N = 522) se adhieren en general al movimiento y que la mayoría participó en algún momento. La mayoría piensa que el movimiento todavía existe de una forma u otra, y perciben su impacto en varias áreas, instituciones, comportamientos e ideas. Concluimos describiendo OWS como un caso que encaja adecuadamente con el concepto de un movimiento social en red. Impacto radiológico asociado al transporte de material radiactivo por carretera en España.

Las cuestiones relacionadas con el transporte de materiales radiactivos constituyen un objeto de renovada actualidad, por el continuo incremento en la movilidad de materiales relacionados con el ciclo del combustible nuclear u otros (e.g. el propio combustible, equipos de inspección, fuentes radiactivas, residuos, etc.), el compromiso creciente de estas actividades con el medio ambiente, la seguridad y protección de las personas [1], así como el actual marco legal. Cabe preguntarse: ¿Cuáles son las rutas más activas? ¿Qué impacto radiológico se genera en el medio o en individuos tipo, como el trabajador de suministro de combustible, los ocupantes de un vehículo particular, en situaciones de retención del tráfico, el público en general ? ? En España hay una ?larga ruta radiactiva? de más de 10.000 kilómetros. El combustible nuclear se transporta por carretera desde Juzbado (Salamanca) hasta las centrales nucleares, y desde estas los residuos generados son transportados también por carretera a las instalaciones de El Cabril, en Córdoba. Además, también hay que tener en cuenta los transportes que generan los equipos y materiales, con origen o destino en las plantas nucleares, necesarios para la buena operación de las mismas

Impact radiologique liés au transport de matières radioactives par route en Espagne / Radiological impact associated with the transport by road of radioactive material in Spain

Questions relating to the transport of radioactive materials are very much an issue of current interest due to the increasing mobility of the materials involved in the nuclear fuel cycle, commitment to the environment, the safety and protection of persons and the corresponding regulatory legal framework. The radiological impact associated with this type of transport was assessed by means of a new data-processing tool that may be of use and serve as complementary documentation to that included in transport regulations. Thus, by determining the level of radiation at a distance of one metre from the transport vehicle and by selecting a route, the associated impacts will be obtained, such as the affected populations, the dose received by the most highly exposed individual, the overall radiological impact, the doses received by the population along the route and the possible detriment to their health. The most important conclusion is that the emissions of ionising radiation from the transport of radioactive material by road in Spain are not significant as regards the generation of adverse effects on human health, and that their radiological impact may be considered negligible

Since 15M: the technopolitical reassembling of democracy in Spain.

The thesis explores a 5-year period in the political history of Spain. It looks at a series of political processes and projects, beginning with the 15M/Indignados social movement. These projects go from 15M in 2011 to the creation of new digital platforms for participatory democracy for the city of Barcelona in 2016. The thesis defends the idea that these cases add up to a cycle of political contention, which is defined as “the 15M cycle of contention”. It supports the idea that a core thread throughout the cycle has been the challenging of the liberal representative model of democracy and some of its key social forms, primarily in discourse, but also in practice. The cases within the cycle vindicated, and experimented with, alternative forms and practices of democracy. Concretely, they tried to move away from the current liberal representative model, preeminent since XVIII century, towards a more participatory one. The thesis also defends the argument that a key driver of these democratic experiments has been “technopolitics”, otherwise, practices and processes that hybridize politics and technologies (particularly, information and communication technologies). The thesis focuses on three paradigmatic cases of the 15M cycle of contention: 15M itself, a social movement born in 2011; the X party, a new party created in 2013 by 15M activists; and Decidim.barcelona, a digital platform for participation, launched in early 2016 by the Barcelona City Council, designed by people involved in previous projects within the 15M cycle. The first of these three cases covers the sphere of social movements and civil society, the second, that of political parties, and the third, that of the State at the municipal level. I look at the discourses and the practices of democracy in these processes and projects, and whether they innovate or not in relation to pre-existing political forms in social movements, political parties, and the State. In every case I look at the technopolitics deployed by the actors involved. For analyzing such technopolitics, I look at three main elements: discourses, practices, and technological infrastructures. These are used, respectively, as the main entry into the semantics, the pragmatics and the syntax of technopolitics. As a complementary view, I look beyond the cases and into the cycle. Concretely, to the variations in discourses on democracy and technopolitical practices. I suggest that the cycle as a whole can be conceived as: a) a process of “reassembling of democracy”, a reassembling oriented towards a democratization of the political field (and society more broadly) beyond the liberal representative model; and b) as a case of “technopolitical contention”, in which political struggles have been organically connected to technological practices. Since, differently from traditional democratization processes from XVIII century onwards, this one has not been oriented to establish but to challenge the structures of liberal representative democracy (f.i.: the current structure and centrality of representation, traditional political parties, Parliaments, etc.), I define it as an attempt at “alter-democratization”. I also show that this alter-democratization process challenges not only the forms, but also the ontology of liberal representative democracy, concretely, some of its key subjective and collective forms, as well as its key modes of political relation. By looking at civil society, parties and State institutions I try to map changes in various areas of the political field in liberal democracies. In that sense, the cycle has pointed towards (although has not always succeeded in bringing about) alternative political ontologies and forms of life. In order to analyze both the cycle and the three key cases under study, I have recurred to a multi-method and multi-disciplinary approach. I have primarily relied on qualitative methods, such as participant observation, fieldwork, interviews, and digital materials (blog posts, journals, etc.). I spent more than 5 years as participant in various 15M cycle projects. Secondarily, I have used quantitative methods: along with fellow activists and researchers, in 2014 we ran a digital survey that gathered 1000+ responses among 15M participants.
