    A theology of healing ministry is fundamentally relational, and it suggests that humans can honor God and the imago dei by assisting and supporting each other after traumatic experiences. Considering theology through the lens of healing ministry demonstrates the need for recognizing healing as one of the ongoing possibilities and eschatological imaginings of Christ’s churches. By embracing a theology of healing ministry, churches can model and foster the healing that is needed by all of creation

    Congressional Term Limits: Unconstitutional by Initiative

    Numerous states are considering voters\u27 initiatives limiting the terms of their congressional delegations. This Comment analyzes the constitutionality of these measures and concludes that congressional term limits are unconstitutional when enacted through voters\u27 initiatives, but may be properly enacted through a federal constitutional amendment. Moreover, imposing term limits at all, regardless of their implementation, appears inconsistent with original intent of the Constitution\u27s framers. Finally, previous amendments used to implement changes to the electoral process, and judicial decisions on such proposed changes, suggest that changes such as term limits must be enacted by constitutional amendment

    Enhancing Collegiate Women’s Soccer Psychosocial and Performance Outcomes by Promoting Intrinsic Sources of Sport Enjoyment

    This study examined the effectiveness of an applied mental skills training (MST) intervention utilizing mental skills to enhance intrinsic sources of enjoyment (ISOEs) as a means of promoting self-confidence, motivational style, and athletic performance, while also decreasing trait anxiety. The interven-tion project was designed to increase intrinsic SOE using a systematic and individualized mental training protocol, and then examine its relationships to mental skills and soccer perfor-mance. A Division 1 collegiate women’s soccer team was ran-domly assigned to treatment (n = 8) and control (n = 11) groups, equally distributed by academic year, position, and pre-season coach-evaluated starters and non-starts. Results revealed that the MST intervention significantly increased intrinsic enjoyment targeted psychological and competitive outcomes, both in prac-tice and competition within the treatment group as compared to the control group. This study’s support for the impact mental skills training may have had on ISOEs, as well as other psycho-social outcomes and athletic performance can serve to highlight a mental skill often overlooked by consultants and coaches

    Lifting the Mind: A Case Study of Applied Sport Psychology in Powerlifting

    The sport of powerlifting has extensive research within the areas of physical and physiological training and the impact these factors have on competitive performance, yet there is a lack of research examining the impact applied mental training has on meet performance. Over the course of this four-month sport psychology intervention, the case of Matt highlights the positive psychological, emotional, and competitive effects applied mental training can have on an elite powerlifter. Examining topics such as training burnout and staleness, competitive goal setting and self-talk, and in – competition arousal control and energy management, this study’s results suggests the importance the growing field of applied sport and exercise psychology may play in the emerging sport of powerlifting. Though case study in nature, the qualitative reports and significant quantitative results of this case will hopefully reshape the way trainers, coaches, and athletes think about powerlifting meet preparation, on and off the platform

    Detection of BRCA1, BRCA2, and ATM Alterations in Matched Tumor Tissue and Circulating Tumor DNA in Patients with Prostate Cancer Screened in PROfound

Furthermore, samples may fail because of difficulties within the testing procedure. Optimization of screening techniques may reduce failure rates; however, a need remains for additional testing methods to detect cancers with alterations in homologous recombination repair genes. We evaluated the utility of plasma-derived circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) in identifying deleterious BRCA1, BRCA2 (BRCA), and ATM alterations in screened patients with mCRPC from the phase III PROfound study. Patients and Methods: Tumor tissue samples were sequenced prospectively at Foundation Medicine, Inc. (FMI) using an investigational next-generation sequencing (NGS) assay based on FoundationOne®CDx to inform trial eligibility. Matched ctDNA samples were retrospectively sequenced at FMI, using an investigational assay based on FoundationOne®Liquid CDx. Results: 81% (503/619) of ctDNA samples yielded an NGS result, of which 491 had a tumor tissue result. BRCA and ATM status in tissue compared with ctDNA showed 81% positive percentage agreement and 92% negative percentage agreement, using tissue as reference. At variant-subtype level, using tissue as reference, concordance was high for nonsense (93%), splice (87%), and frameshift (86%) alterations but lower for large rearrangements (63%) and homozygous deletions (27%), with low ctDNA fraction being a limiting factor. Conclusions: We demonstrate that ctDNA can greatly complement tissue testing in identifying patients with mCRPC and BRCA or ATM alterations who are potentially suitable for receiving targeted PARP inhibitor treatments, particularly patients with no or insufficient tissue for genomic analyses.This study was funded by AstraZeneca and is part of an alliance between AstraZeneca and Merck Sharp & Dohme Corp

    Creating Dynamic Learning Communities in Synchronous Online Courses: One Approach from the Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching and Learning (CIRTL)

    The ability to convert face-to-face curricula into rigorous and equally rich online experiences is a topic of much investigation. In this paper, we report on the conversion of a face-to-face research mentor training curriculum into a synchronous, online course. Graduate students and postdoc participants from the Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching and Learning (CIRTL) reported high satisfaction with the online training and increased confidence in their mentoring. Both quantitative and qualitative data indicate that the synchronous environment was successful in creating a strong sense of community among the participants. Specific pedagogical approaches for cultivating learning communities online as well as implications for scaling up such efforts are discussed

    Literature and Environment: Imaginative Interventions in the Climate Crisis

    In the fall semester of 2019, the members of ENGL374 engaged in critical conversations about the climate crisis, its impacts on various communities, and the systems that shape how people are affected by the crisis. To share this with the greater community and invite others to participate in these necessary conversations, ENGL374 sponsored an event comprised of a conversation hour and an open mic, both encouraging community growth, bonding, and shared conversations the climate crisis. The event was dedicated to creating a space where people could share works that connected to their personal feelings about the state of the natural world. This took the form of prose, stories, and personal narratives, all reiterating the need for climate mitigation and systemic action. The event explored different dialogues, feelings, and reactions surrounding the issue of the climate crisis, and sought to unite the participating members over a common denominator: advocating and fighting for climate justice. The event took place on the eve of the Youth Climate Strike on December 5, 2019, and was a part of a series of creative climate events hosted by the University of Puget Sound. This archive is meant to document and commemorate the works of climate fiction created by the Fall 2019 ENGL374 class, as well as the works shared during the open mic. This collection of climate fiction are not only imaginative interventions of the climate crisis, but are diverse, thoughtful, and straight from the heart. If green studies and ecocriticism are to be about affecting and inspiring change, then the hope is that this collection of creative climate writing can be sparks of change. We hope to continue the conversation on the climate crisis, not just through our climate fiction but in our everyday choices. It is important that we understand what is happening in our world and who is getting affected. For those not sure how to get involved, Tacoma is a great place to start. We have included a resource section comprised of helpful links to let you know exactly what is going on in our town and what we can do to help combat the climate crisis and be powerful advocates of climate justice.     Impact of DNA damage repair alterations on prostate cancer progression and metastasis

    Prostate cancer is among the most common diseases worldwide. Despite recent progress with treatments, patients with advanced prostate cancer have poor outcomes and there is a high unmet need in this population. Understanding molecular determinants underlying prostate cancer and the aggressive phenotype of disease can help with design of better clinical trials and improve treatments for these patients. One of the pathways often altered in advanced prostate cancer is DNA damage response (DDR), including alterations in BRCA1/2 and other homologous recombination repair (HRR) genes. Alterations in the DDR pathway are particularly prevalent in metastatic prostate cancer. In this review, we summarise the prevalence of DDR alterations in primary and advanced prostate cancer and discuss the impact of alterations in the DDR pathway on aggressive disease phenotype, prognosis and the association of germline pathogenic1 alterations in DDR genes with risk of developing prostate cancer
