Evolutionary systems biology of virus-host interactions

The evolution of virus-host interactions occurs at multiple levels of biological complexity, such as organismal, genetic, and molecular levels. In the first part of this study, the evolution of associations between herpesviruses (HVs) and theirhosts are examined across more than 400 million years. Recent studies have been demonstrating that cospeciations are not always the main event driving HV evolution, asinterhost speciations and host switches also play important roles. The present study shows that more than topological incongruences, mismatches on divergence times are the main source of disagreements between host and viral phylogenies, which reveals host switches, intrahost speciations and viral losses along the evolution of HVs. Herpesviruses have large genomes encoding dozens of proteins. Apart from amino acid substitutions, these viruses also evolve by acquiring, duplicating and losing protein domains. Although the domain repertoires of HVs differ across species, a core set of domains is shared among all of them. This second part of this study reveals that 28 out 41 core domains encoded by HV ancestors are still found in present-day repertoires, which over time were expanded by domain gains and duplications. Distinct evolutionary strategies led HVs to developed very specific domain repertoires, which may explain their host range and tissue tropism, and provide hints on the origins of herpesviruses. Despite the fact that most mutations in proteins are deleterious, few of them end up improving viral fitness and defining how viruses interact with their hosts. By using an integrative approach, the third part of this study investigates the evolution of protein-protein interactions (PPIs) involving the membrane proteins Nectins, and the herpesviral envelope glycoproteins D/G. By means of ancestral sequence reconstruction and homology modelling, ancestral structures of these protein complexes were generated, and analysis of their interaction energies revealed important differences of binding affinity along their evolution.Open Acces

Física e filosofia antiga em Werner Heisenberg: apropriações do legado clássico por um físico do século XX

O objetivo deste artigo é analisar os usos que Werner Heisenberg fez da filosofia grega em sua obra. Pretende-se relacionar tais usos não apenas com a argumentação interna presente nos textos do físico alemão, mas também com o contexto histórico, conflitos e debates entre as diversas interpretações da teoria dos quanta durante a primeira metade do século XX. Faremos, inicialmente, uma apresentação geral da teoria quântica e da presença da filosofia na obra de Heisenberg e, em seguida, um estudo de caso da apropriação que Heisenberg fez do pensamento de Leucipo, Demócrito, Heráclito, Platão e Aristóteles. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACTThe aim of this article is to analyze the uses Werner Heisenberg made of Greek philosophy in his works, and to relate such uses not only to the internal argumentation present in the texts of the German physicist, but also to the historical context, conflicts and debates between diverse interpretations of quantum theory during the first half of the 20th century. Audit Aplikasi Inventori Menggunakan Framework Cobit 4.1 Pada Store Nonna

Nonna merupakan toko yang menjual berbagai produk kecantikan dan kebutuhan wanita, dalam proses bisnis nya Nonna menggunakan aplikasi inventori untuk mendukung kinerja bisnis nya. Tujuan dari dilakukan nya audit pada toko ini adalah mengidentifikasi apakah aplikasi yang di gunakan sudah efektif dan efisien. Penulis akan menggunakan framework Cobit 4.1 sebagai pedoman audit. Pada proses audit ini penulis akan berfokus pada Deliver and Support dengan subdomain Deliver and Support 5 (Ensure Security System), Deliver and Support 7 (Educate and Train System), Deliver and Support 10 (Manage Problem), Deliver and Support 11 (Manage Data). Untuk teknik pengumpulan data, penulis akan melakukan observasi, wawancara dan studi kepustakaan. Hasil data yang di terima akan di analisis dengan Maturity level. Dari hasil penelitian, di temukan bahwa Deliver and Support 5 berada pada level 1,3 (Initial Ad/Hoc), lalu pada domain Deliver and Support 10 dan Deliver and Support 11 memiliki nilai 2 (Repeatable but Intuitive). Dengan itu diketahui bahwa tata kelola sistem informasi yang di terapkan oleh Nonna Store kurang dari yang di harapkan, yaitu level 3 Definie. Untuk itu penulis akan memberikan beberapa rekomendasi kepada pihak menejemen untuk mencapai level yang di harapkan

Karyotype description of Cephalotrigona femorata Smith (Hymenoptera: Apidae) and the C-banding pattern as a specific marker for Cephalotrigona

Cephalotrigona femorata (Smith, 1854) was submitted to cytogenetic techniques to study and describe its karyotype. Conventional staining allowed the counting (2n=34) and observation of chromosome morphology. The amount and distribution of heterochromatin in this species was different from Cephalotrigona capitata (Smith, 1854), another species of the genus already analyzed. Our results indicate that heterochromatin a potential marker for the genus, at least for the species found in Brazil. This region was marked by DAPI, revealing a high content of A:T. The CMA3 marked two pairs, and it seems to be  polymorphic in one pair

Rapid identification of microorganisms by the clinical microbiology laboratory is of crucial importance for optimal patients’ management and treatment. In general, bacterial identification by conventional methods requires 18-24 hours for colony isolation and at least 24 additional hours for species identification. New technologies in microbiology have focused on the rapid diagnosis of bloodstream infections, since they are associated with high morbidity and mortality rates.A rápida identificação de microrganismos no laboratório de microbiologia clínica é de extrema importância para direcionar o manejo e o tratamento de pacientes. Agrupamento de funcionários baseado no Big Five Model em uma franquia de academias

O aumento da concorrência especialmente no setor de serviços faz com que as empresas procurem melhores práticas gerenciais. Nesse contexto, técnicas de clusterização vêm ganhando espaço para identificar ações que se adequem melhor aos perfis dos colaboradores. Além disso, técnicas da Psicologia Pessoal, especialmente a área de análise de personalidade tem ampla aplicação em estudos e empresas. O presente artigo aborda a clusterização por k-means e Fuzzy C-Means, avaliados através do Silhouette Index (SI), além da análise de componentes principais das amostras em uma loja de uma franquia de academia. As amostras foram caracterizadas tanto por características sociodemográficas e sua relação com a empresa, bem como seus escores nos testes de personalidade baseados no Five Factors Model (FFM). Os resultados indicam a formação dois grupos que se diferenciam especialmente em idade, tempo de empresa, salário e cargo, além de acompanhar os maiores escores no FFM. Os clusters formados foram analisados gerencialmente, possibilitando a proposição de ações para cada grupo

Gestão e tratamentos de resíduos sólidos em uma empresa do setor automotivo

Dissertação (mestrado profissional) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro Tecnológico, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Engenharia Ambiental, Florianópolis, 2016.Este estudo busca descrever a gestão e o tratamento de resíduos sólidos (GTRS) de uma empresa do setor automotivo; e o conjunto de ações normativas, operacionais, e de planejamento. Medidas adotadas pela empresa de segregação, coleta, acondicionamento, armazenamento temporário, transporte, reciclagem, minimização, tratamento e disposição final dos resíduos sólidos gerados nos processos de fundição de alumínio, injeção, rebarbação, jateamento, usinagem, embalagem e expedição das peças de alumínio fabricadas pela empresa. As metodologias adotadas neste trabalho foram: levantamento de dados técnicos do processo de fundição, rebarbação e usinagem de peças e levantamentos qualitativos e quantitativos dos resíduos sólidos gerados, sua classificação conforme a norma ABNT NBR 10.004/2004 e sobre as diretrizes relativas à gestão integrada e ao gerenciamento de resíduos sólidos conforme a LEI Nº 12.305, de 2 de agosto de 2010 Política Nacional de Resíduos Sólidos. Como resultado do trabalho, foi realizada uma análise comparativa dos resultados do antes e depois da implantação da gestão de resíduos sólidos industriais, praticado pela organização em estudo.Abstract : This study aims to describe the management and treatment of solid waste (GTRS) of an automotive company; and the set of normative, operational and planning. Measures adopted by the segregation of business, collection, packaging, temporary storage, transportation, recycling, minimization, treatment and final disposal of solid waste generated in the aluminum casting process, injection, grinding, sandblasting, machining, packaging and shipment of aluminum parts manufactured by the company. The methodologies used in this study were: collection of technical data of the casting process, grinding and machining parts and qualitative and quantitative surveys of solid waste generated, their classification according to ABNT NBR 10.004 / 2004 and on the guidelines for the integrated management and solid waste management according to Law No. 12,305, of August 2, 2010 National Policy on solid waste. Análise da dinâmica de responsabilidade socioambiental em condomínio horizontal, localizado no Setor Habitacional Vicente Pires

O tema “responsabilidade socioambiental” é amplamente abordado no meio acadêmico e em estudos de forma geral, por ser um fundamento do ideal de uma sociedade harmônica, sustentável. Para tanto, tem-se buscado o consumo consciente e globalmente responsável. Este trabalho propõe-se a analisar o comportamento e os hábitos de consumo dos condôminos, colaboradores e visitantes num determinado condomínio residencial horizontal. Algumas ações já praticadas por este grupo foram mapeadas e confrontadas com determinados indicadores socioambientais. Para o levantamento dos dados, foi utilizada a técnica do questionário aberto e abordagem individual. Dos resultados, conclui-se que há carência de informações sobre a conscientização socioambiental por considerável parcela dos moradores deste condomínio. Em contrapartida, os mesmos demostraram preocupação e interesse em aprimorar a cultura de melhor convivência
