    Get PDF
This study investigated the mediating role of family well-being in the relationship between waqf and poverty mitigation. Using a cross-sectional design, data was collected from 350 respondents in a Malaysian context. The results showed that waqf practices have a direct positive effect on poverty mitigation and family well-being. Family well-being, in turn, partially mediates the relationship between waqf and poverty mitigation. The study provides evidence for the potential of waqf practices to improve family well-being, which can ultimately contribute to poverty reduction. The findings have important implications for policymakers, organizations, and Islamic philanthropists involved in poverty reduction efforts. Policymakers can promote and support waqf practices to mitigate poverty, while organizations can focus on initiatives that improve family well-being. The study highlights the importance of family well-being in poverty reduction efforts and provides valuable insights for poverty reduction strategies and initiatives

Local experts of Swabi district practice a huge variety of ethnomedicinal plants in treating a wide spectrum of disorders, especially those plants used to cure jaundice. Our finding suggest that the pharmacological potential across some of these plants has been therapeutically validated however still need to explore the pharmacological properties of other species. Hence, the present investigation, aside from being a source of new insight for ethnobotanical and pharmacological cure of many disorders, might contribute to upgrade the sustainability, conservation, and management of medicinal flora in the Bachai Sikandari, district Swabi

Objective:   In this study, we looked at how intra-operative epidural steroids affected postoperative pain and stay duration in patients with unilateral single-level lumbar discectomy. Material & Methods:  A randomized control trial was conducted at Ayub Teaching Hospital Abbottabad. Group A (n = 30) was given intraoperative epidural methylprednisolone, while group B (n = 30) was given normal saline only. The outcome was measured between the two groups in terms of postoperative pain (visual analog scale), time of mobilization, length of hospital stay, and duration to return to work. Results:  At discharge, the VAS score in group A was 0.40 compared to 2.4 in group B (p = 0.000). At 2 weeks follow-up, the mean VAS score was 1.10 in group A in contrast to 1.4 in group B (p = 0.001). Patients who received local epidural methylprednisolone were mobilized after an average of 1 day, stayed for an average of 1.16 days, and returned to work following 18.2 days, whereas patients in the control group were mobilized after an average of 1.2 days, stayed for an average of 1.86 days and returned to work following 25.9 days. An incidental Dural tear occurs in 2 cases. Conclusion:  Intra-operative epidural steroid is beneficial in reducing post-operative pain, hospital stay, and time to return to work. It allows early mobilization with enhanced recovery and few complications

What Led to the Necessity of Adding Letters with Letters and Sentences in the Books of the Meanings of the Qur'an Until the End of the Fourth Century AH - (Grammar study)

    Get PDF
This study revolves around what led to the necessity of adding letters with letters and sentences in the books of meanings of the Qur'an until the end of the fourth century AH, which are: (The Book of Meanings of the Qur'an for AlFaraa, Meanings of the Qur'an for Al-Akhfash, Meanings and syntax of the Qur'an for Alzujaj, and the two books (The Meanings and syntax of the Qur'an for Alnahaas). The researcher extrapolated the poetic evidence that bears the necessities in grammatical issues and extracted them. Although most scholars said that the Qur'an should not be carried out on necessity, we find that in their interpretations of the verses of the wise Quran they carried one of the aspects that are not permissible except in necessity. If the term necessity allows the poet to break the rules, is it possible to apply the term ``necessity'' to the interpretations of scholars in some aspects of readings? Did the owners of the meanings books mention the necessity of some readings? Did they choose the necessity, or did they reject it and allow others? The research aims to stand on the issues that led to the necessity of increasing the letters, clarifying the stand of scholars toward them, and solving the problem of necessity in the Qur'an by mentioning the opinions of scholars and standing by them. After the introduction, the research contained two sections, the first topic was the definition of poetic necessity, the position of Grammar scientist on necessity in the Qur'an and readings, and the approach of the owners of meaning books in resorting to necessity in letters. And the second topic was where I dealt with three issues related to the necessity of adding letters with letters and sentences, which are: (1 the introduction of a preposition on its like, (2 the increase of the conjunction (and), and (3 an increase (um), so the owners of the books of meanings in their directives to the verses of the wise Quran mentioned aspects of interpretation based on poetic necessity, even if they did not explicitly sometimes, then their opinion on necessity in the Qur'an, after an introduction in which I dealt with the grammatical issue that was addressed by the owners of the books of meanings, and I mention the opinions of scholars and whether they are necessary for them? Before concluding, I articulate the commenters' opinions, if they claimed necessity in the Holy Quran and their response for those who claimed it, and then the researcher recommends one of the opinions and a conclusion with the most prominent results of the research that I reached. Keywords: Arabic language, meaning books, poetic necessity, grammatical guidance, increase letters

Micro and small enterprises sustainability. An explorative case study was conducted through semi interviews with 22 of women borrowers who received loan from Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM) since three years in Selangor. We find that the majority of women who received loan three years ago have successfully operated their micro and small enterprises. However, they still suffer of sustainability and the majority of them still in the infant stage. There are many causes that affect the sustainability of women micro and small enterprises such as lack of product diversity and the inflexible of the implementation process of loan disbursement and repayment. Therefore, re-innovate AIM product as well as process is an important factor for women small business sustainability. In addition, control market competition and protect micro businesses is another important factor towards sustainability

The research employed critical discourse analysis of official social science documents and three prominent lines of social science textbooks. Despite the recent emphasis on incorporating real-world economic practices into school financial education, the findings reveal that new social science textbooks exhibit increased criticism toward the market economy. Furthermore, they tend to avoid addressing and analysing the socio-economic issues of the present day. The study concludes by emphasising the need for economic education in schools to focus on contemporary social and financial problems.

Has the Pandemic Triggered a ‘Paperdemic’? Towards an Assessment of Diagnostic Indicators for COVID-19

    Get PDF
This paper is a preliminary step towards the assessment of an alarming widespread belief that victims of the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 include the quality and accuracy of scientific publications about it. Our initial results suggest that this belief cannot be readily ignored, denied, dismissed or refuted, since some genuine supporting evidence can be forwarded for it. This evidence includes an obvious increase in retractions of papers published about the COVID-19 pandemic plus an extra-ordinary phenomenon of inconsistency that we report herein. In fact, we provide a novel method for validating any purported set of the four most prominent indicators of diagnostic testing (Sensitivity, Specificity, Positive Predictive Value, and Negative Predictive Value), by observing that these indicators constitute three rather than four independent quantities. This observation has virtually been unheard of in the open medical literature, and hence researchers have not taken it into consideration. We define two functions, which serve as consistency criteria, since each of them checks consistency for any set of four numerical values (naturally belonging to the interval [0.0,1.0]) claimed to be the four basic diagnostic indicators. Most of the data we came across in various international journals met our criteria for consistency, but in a few cases, there were obvious unexplained blunders. We explored the same consistency problem for some diagnostic data published in 2020 concerning the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and observed that the afore-mentioned unexplained blunders tended to be on the rise. A systematic extensive statistical assessment of this presumed tendency is warranted
