Nonlinear surface waves on the plasma-vacuum interface

In this paper we study the propagation of weakly nonlinear surface waves on a plasma-vacuum interface. In the plasma region we consider the equations of incompressible magnetohydrodynamics, while in vacuum the magnetic and electric fields are governed by the Maxwell equations. A surface wave propagate along the plasma-vacuum interface, when it is linearly weakly stable. Following the approach of Ali and Hunter, we measure the amplitude of the surface wave by the normalized displacement of the interface in a reference frame moving with the linearized phase velocity of the wave, and obtain that it satisfies an asymptotic nonlocal, Hamiltonian evolution equation. We show the local-in-time existence of smooth solutions to the Cauchy problem for the amplitude equation in noncanonical variables, and we derive a blow up criterion.Comment: arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:1305.5327 by other author

L’internazionalizzazione della ricerca

In questo articolo viene posta in evidenza l’attenzione sull’importanza delle strategie di internazionalizzazione e di ricerca, che, attualmente, sono  al centro del dibattito europeo.Viene rimarcato il concetto dell’investimento in termini di capitale umano e dei saperi, oltre a quello economico, per far emergere la consapevolezza che la crescita di una società è profondamente legata alla produzione dei saperi e della ricerca: fattori di primaria importanza per una società che vuole vincere la sfida della crisi puntando sullo sviluppo dell’internazionalizzazione della ricerca. Vengono evidenziate le varie tappe per l’attuazione di riforme strutturali, necessarie per il raggiungimento degli obiettivi previsti dalla Comunicazione EU 2020. In questa direzione, sono riportate in evidenza le fasi progressive nel panorama italiano, della Direzione Generale per l’internazionalizzazione della Ricerca (Ministero dell’Istruzione) e dei Ministeri coinvolti. In questo senso, la Commissione europea sottolinea la necessità di condividere una strategia comune a livello europeo integrando obiettivi, attori, strategie, azioni e strumenti per l’attuazione della politica nel prossimo Programma Quadro, che avrà il nome di “Horizon 2020 – The Framework Programme for Research and Innovation”.Questa rassegna evidenzia la necessità di lavorare insieme su grandi obiettivi comuni di ricerca, innovazione ed internazionalizzazione per il raggiungimento di risultati concreti finalizzati al benessere collettivo.RésuméDans cet article on met l’attention sur l’importance des stratégies d’internationalisation et de recherche, qui, à l’heure actuelle, sont au centre du débat européen. On remarque le concept de l’investissement en termes de capital humain et des connaissances, outre l’investissement économique, pour faire émerger la conscience que la croissance d’une société est profondément liée à la production des connaissances et de la recherche: facteurs d’importance primaire pour une société qui veut gagner le défide la crise en misant sur le développement de l’internationalisation de la recherche. On met en évidence les différentes étapes pour la réalisation de réformes structurelles, nécessaires pour l’obtention des objectifs prévus par la Communication EU 2020.Dans cette direction, sont reportées les phases progressives dans le  panorama italien, de la Direction Générale pour l’internationalisation de la Recherche (Ministère de l’Instruction) et des Ministères impliqués. Dans ce sens, la Commission européenne souligne la nécessité de partager une stratégie commune au niveau européen intégrant objectifs, acteurs, stratégies, actions et instruments pour la réalisation de la politique dans le prochain Programme Cadre, qui aura le nom de « Horizon 2020 – The Framework Programme for Research and Innovation ». В данном контексте Европейская Комиссия подчеркивает необходимость разделения общей стратегии на европейском уровне, объединяя цели, исполнителей, стратегии, действия и инструменты для воплощения политики в Программе под названием “Horizon 2020 – The Framework Programme for Research and Innovation”.Данный обзор подчеркивает необходимость совместной работы по наиболее важным общим направлениям исследований, инноваций и интернационализации для достижения конкретных результатов, направленных на всеобщее благо. This paper focuses on the importance given to strategies for internationalization and research, two topics currently at the centre of European debate.What is made evident is the concept of investment in terms of knowledge, and human as well as economic capital – to foster awareness of the fact that the growth of a society is closely linked to the production of knowledge and research. These are factors of primary importance for a society wanting to successfully deal with the challenge represented by the current crisis. Investing in the development of internationalization and research is one way of meeting this challenge.The paper outlines the different steps for carrying out the structural reforms needed to achieve the objectives set by the EU Communication 2020.In the same way, the progressive phases of the Directorate General for the Internationalization of Research (Ministry of Education) and other interested Ministries are also made evident in the Italian context. Parenthood and the Wayana People

This paper presents the first results obtained from an exploratory study which is conducted within the Amerindian Wayana communities who inhabit the Amazon sector of the High Maroni area, in French Guiana. Based on an ecological and interactionist approach and employing comprehensive methods to analyze observed facts (to bypass the nostalgic attitude fostering the paradigmatic anthropological dichotomy “tradition vs; modernity”), this study describes educational family practices among Wayana and analyses parents’ expectations visà-vis their children in the framework of the postcolonial dynamic, with the aim to understand the influence of the national public policies to diffuse certain domestic praxis. The ethnographic corpus is gathered during a long fieldwork and it is accompanied by seventeen semi-open interviews. The interpretative approach attempts to link the observed behaviours observed to contextual and cultural variables. Following the analysis of the data, the authors propose 1) a diagram of the structure of Wayana family kinship Microsystems (with a description and a diagram of the Wayana matrilineality scheme); 2) a description of roles and educational functions within their communities and, finally, 3) an overview of parental expectations interpreted taking into account the influences of contemporary inter-systemic interactions (and above all the dynamics generated by the recent introduction of compulsory schooling into the area)

This paper concerns with a compact network model combined with distributed models for semiconductor devices. For linear RLC networks containing distributed semiconductor devices, we construct a mathematical model that joins the differential-algebraic initial value problem for the electric circuit with multi-dimensional parabolic-elliptic boundary value problems for the devices. We prove an existence and uniqueness result, and the asymptotic behavior of this mixed initial boundary value problem of partial differential-algebraic equations

Learning and Growing in Indigenous Amazon: the Education System of French Guiana Wayana-Apalaï communities

This paper presents the first results obtained from an exploratory study conducted with a Wayana-Apalaï indigenous community living the High Maroni region, in French Guiana. The study is situated within an ecological and interactionist approach and attempts (1) to understand educational family practices and community logic of children training, (2) to describe parents' expectations vis-à-vis their children as a postmodern dynamic. The ethnographic corpus was gathered during a period of five years with the aim to link observed behaviors with contextual and cultural variables. Following the analysis of the data, the authors propose a diagram of a) the micro-systems structuring the Wayana-Apalaï kinship system; b) a description of parental roles and educational functions; c) an overview of parental expectations in terms of "traditional success"/ "school success "

Nonequilibrium polarity-induced mechanism for chemotaxis: emergent Galilean symmetry and exact scaling exponents

A generically observed mechanism that drives the self-organization of living systems is interaction via chemical signals among the individual elements -- which may represent cells, bacteria, or even enzymes. Here we propose a novel mechanism for such interactions, in the context of chemotaxis, which originates from the polarity of the particles and which generalizes the well-known Keller--Segel interaction term. We study the resulting large-scale dynamical properties of a system of such chemotactic particles using the exact stochastic formulation of Dean and Kawasaki along with dynamical renormalization group analysis of the critical state of the system. At this critical point, an emergent "Galilean" symmetry is identified, which allows us to obtain the dynamical scaling exponents exactly; these exponents reveal superdiffusive density fluctuations and non-Poissonian number fluctuations. We expect our results to shed light on how molecular regulation of chemotactic circuits can determine large-scale behavior of cell colonies and tissues.Comment: The first three authors contributed equall

The Ethnic Dilemma: Mass Communication and Native People in Colombia

The logic of hegemonic domination that was established in Colombia and in Latin America after the Conquest is based on a scheme of elitist power. Using the perspective of the Italian sociologist Vilfredo Pareto, we can classify these elites in lions or foxes. In the first case, they use the force and the violence (the Macht of Weber) to impose their sovereignty; in the second case, they use persuasion and the masquerade (the Herrschaft)—the propaganda. This power is based on a more stable legitimacy and is able to transform itself in a matrix-effect reality. This form of social control has allowed the Colombian (and Latin American) élites the uncontrolled starvation of the natural resources found in these territories, under the influence of a wild capitalism which is strictly linked to the mass media community of the continent. This paper will expose the panorama of community media with an ethnic perspective in Colombia that hopefully works as process to facilitate the building of social links based on dialogue, reconciliation, respect, and participation, acting as watchdog of economic and political power, reporting the injustice and looking for peace solution in the region
