Evidence-based information services: An example of a literature review

High quality, accurate and up-to-date information is very important in the field of health sciences. Doctors, dentists, nurses, researchers and other health professionals use medical libraries and information centers in order to meet their need for knowledge. In this study, the concepts of "evidence", "evidence-based practice", "evidence-based knowledge" are defined for medical librarians; and an important part of the evidence-based information services - the literature review - is provided. The literature review presented in medical libraries is an important part of evidence-based information services. It is one of the main topics of user education especially organized for health professionals in medical libraries. In addition, the number of publications and their results were evaluated by using keywords related to the concept of "evidence" from the PubMed database, which is frequently used by health professionals to access evidence based information. The sample of the study constitutes from systematic collections and clinical studies published in the PubMed database between the years 2000-2016. Evaluation of innovative services at university libraries

It is important for libraries and information centers at universities to develop innovative services for the future of the university library. The main purpose of this study is to draw attention to the innovative services in the university library. The role and importance of academic librarians will be examined. For this purpose, a survey was conducted concerning contemporary library services with the directors of library services in university libraries throughout Turkey. With the survey of the overall evaluation of innovative services in university libraries in Turkey is expected to contribute achievable. 162 university library questionnaires were sent by e-mail. 89 libraries responded to the questionnaire. Feedback has been 55%. According to the data obtained, in 50% of university libraries in Turkey innovative library services that are not subject librarian. Subject librarians despite the lack of creativity in the university library staff providing 94% of information and document management are found to be graduates. Innovative services performed in this university libraries in 28% of the seminar, 18% of interviews and 15% of author events, 9% had competitions and exhibitions are held. The university libraries surveyed 17% were identified in which no activity since. The libraries to announce innovative services to its users, in 38% of the web, 29% of social media, they benefit from orientation training for users at 26%. E-document retrieval services in dentistry and nursing libraries

Available information should respond to the needs of individuals with regard to their health problems and should be current, meaningful, quickly accessible, providing patients with data on the most recent medical developments as well as on the newest methods of diagnosis and treatment. The number and types of electronic resources that can serve this purpose are steadily growing and library information services are accordingly diversifying. Electronic resources, particularly electronic databases, electronic articles, and electronic documents, are among the foremost resources used in making scientific information accessible to library users. Libraries and health institutions in Turkey have inevitably joined in a cooperative effort to facilitate the process of accessing medical information. Medical libraries are in cooperation with each other in providing information services and accessing articles in national and international publications. These joint efforts not only encompass systems in individual libraries but also facilitate document retrieval on the basis of a national network. ULAKBİM's TÜBESS and ANKOS's KİTS can be cited as two examples of these nation-wide document retrieval systems. The objective of the present study has been to obtain information on electronic retrieval services in medical libraries, a practice that has a direct impact on the quality of clinical and scientific research in Turkey. The study comprises a subject-based statistical analysis of e-journal types and article request figures for e-document retrieval services over the period 2006-2011 at two libraries in Istanbul that serve the nursing and dentistry schools of two universities. Üniversite kütüphanelerinde Twitter’ın sosyal medya aracı olarak kullanımı

İnternet çağında kitle iletişim ve sosyal medya aracı olan Twitter kütüphaneler tarafından hizmetlerini ve faaliyetlerini duyurmak, kütüphane bilincini oluşturmak, kurum içerisinde kütüphanenin yerini ve önemini vurgulamak ve daha geniş okuyucu kitlesine ulaşmak amacıyla kullanılmaktadır. Dünyada şu an yaklaşık 521 milyon Twitter hesabının 30.649'u onaylanmış durumdadır. Bir başka deyişle tüm kullanıcıların yaklaşık %0.0058'i bu kapsamda yer almaktadır. Kullanıcıları tarafından daha kolay ulaşılabilir olmak isteyen ve hemen herkesin bir Twitter hesabının var olduğundan yola çıkan üniversite kütüphaneleri Twitter’ı sosyal medya aracı olarak tercih etmektedir. Küreselleşen dünyada hızla değişen tüm sektörlerle birlikte kütüphaneler, arşivler, belge-bilgi merkezleri de hizmetlerini ve faaliyetlerini yenilemektedir. Kullanıcıların istekleri ve önerileri doğrultusunda teknolojik ve bilimsel yeniliklerin desteğiyle kütüphane hizmetlerini örgütlemekte, çeşitlendirmekte ve sunmaktadır. Sistemul de informare medicală şi biblioteconomia medicală în Turcia

În Turcia, sistemul de informare medicală este susţinut de Stat conform politicilor naţionale. Totuşi, deşi istoria bibliotecilor medicale din Turcia dateză din secolul al XIII-lea în Anatolia, aplicaţiile moderne din bibliotecile medicale, adoptate începând din anii 1950, nu au beneficiat de mult sprijin din partea statului. Akademisyenlerin Açık Erişim ve Kurumsal Akademik Arşiv Konusunda Bilgi ve Farkındalık Düzeylerinin Belirlenmesi: Bartın Üniversitesi Uygulama Örneği

Institutionalopenrepositorysystems are platforms where intellectual works which, produced by universities and research centers are archived electronically and freely accessible to everyone. For the continuity of the institutional repository systems of universities, it is necessary to be updated by academicians. It is thought that high level of knowledge and awareness of academic staff about open access and institutional academic archive is important in ensuring this continuity. In this study, a training was carried out in order to increase the knowledge and awareness of Bartın University academicians on open access and institutional academic archives, and it was aimed to examine the changes in the opinions of the academicians before and after the training. In this context, quantitative research methods were used and a single sample pre-test post-test design was used. SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) 22.0 package program wasused to analyze the data. As a result of the study, it was determined that academicians needed training on open access and effective and effective use of institutional repositories. In addition, it was concluded that a statistically significant positive change was observed in the knowledge and awareness of academicians about open access and institutional academic archives after the training provided.Kurumsal açık arşiv sistemleri, üniversiteler ve araştırma merkezleri tarafından üretilen entelektüel çalışmaların elektronik ortamda arşivlendiği ve herkesin serbestçe erişilebildiği platformlardır. Üniversitelerin, kurumsal açık arşiv sistemlerinin, sürekliliği için akademisyenler tarafından güncelliğinin sağlanması gerekmektedir. Bu sürekliliğin sağlanmasında açık erişim ve kurumsal akademik arşiv konusunda öğretim elemanlarının bilgi ve farkındalık düzeylerinin yüksek olmasının önemli olduğu düşünülmektedir. Bu çalışmada, Bartın Üniversitesiakademisyenlerininaçık erişim ve kurumsal akademik arşiv konusundaki bilgi ve farkındalık düzeylerini yükseltmek amacıyla bir eğitim gerçekleştirilmiş ve akademisyenlerin eğitim öncesi ve sonrasında bu konudaki düşüncelerinde yaşanandeğişimin incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu kapsamda nicel araştırma yöntemleri kullanılmış ve tek örneklem ön test son test deseni kullanılmıştır. Verilerin analizinde SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) 22.0 paket programından yararlanılmıştır. Çalışmanın sonucunda, akademisyenlerin açık erişim ve kurumsal açık arşivlerin etkin ve etkili kullanımı konusunda eğitimlere gereksinimduydukları belirlenmiştir. Ayrıca verilen eğitim sonrasında akademisyenlerin açık erişim ve kurumsal akademik arşivler konusundaki bilgi ve farkındalıklarında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı (pozitif)değişim gözlendiği sonucuna varılmıştır

Turkish Medical Information System and Medical Librarianship

In Turkey, medical information is supported at state level according to national policies. However, although the history of medical libraries in Turkey goes back to the 13th century in Anatolia, modern medical library applications adopted since the 1950s have not received much state support. In the past thirteen years a few medical libraries joined forces under ÜNAK (the Association of University and Research Librarians) to contribute to the organization and development of Turkish Medical Information through the establishment of a "Medical Working Group" in 2000
