    THE LECTURERS’ PERSPECTIVES ON ICT LITERACY

    This study is aimed at portraying the perspectives on ICT literacy and the attitudes towards ICT defined by five language lecturers in a tertiary level of education. Their perception of integrating ICT into teaching performance and their ICT experiences were also analyzed. ICT crystallizes to be a significant component of many different aspects of one’s expertise as a teacher (Moursund, 2005). ICT broadens the concept of teacher pedagogical performance by integrating its component into educational practices (Bates, 2005; Clark & Mayer, 2011). The ideology, values and practices the teacher brings into classroom to mediate a proper teaching-learning performance matter more significantly than the impact of ICT per se (Andrews, 2004). Despite being ICT literate for lecturers does not necessarily ensure more teaching-learning outcomes, each new wave of ICT-mediated instruction could generate well-predicted improvements in learning (Clark & Mayer, 2011). With a qualitative descriptive approach, both questionnaire and interview were employed in the data collection thereby gathering all information needed to answer two major research problems. The result revealed ICT was considered as a powerful tool to perform teaching instruction and directed the path of positive perspectives toward the need to acquire ICT literacy. Being ICT literate was believed by the lecturers to be as important to attain as they need to overcome professional matters and, with the help of ICT, keep up with their students’ situation. A positive sign of attitudes was also showed by the lecturers as they gained more awareness of the importance of the ICT literacy. Thus, it is a need for the lecturers’ environment to be ideal and supportive over the enhancement of their ICT literacy. Keywords: lecturers, ICT literacy, perspectives, attitude

    Akad Shulh dalam Sengketa Muamalah (Litigasi dan Non Litigasi). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui penggunaan akad shulh dalam sengketa hukum ekonomi syariah (muamalah) baik di dalam pengadilan (litigasi) maupun di luar pengadilan (non litigasi). Hasil penelitian ini menyebutkan bahwa penggunaan akad shulh di luar proses pengadilan (non litigasi) terlihat dari penggunaan negosiasi, mediasi, arbitrase yang bertujuan untuk mendamaikan kedua belah pihak yang berselisih. Adapun penggunaan akad shulh pada litigasi diketahui dengan proses adanya mediasi di pengadilan, yang awalnya hanya berupa anjuran dari ketentuan Pasal 154 R.Bg/130 HIR. Namun setelah lahirnya PERMA No. 01 Tahun 2008 maka proses mediasi atas penyelesaian sengketa secara damai menjadi bersifat memaksa. Shulh yang merupakan perdamaian dimasukkan ke dalam Buku II tentang Akad dalam Kompilasi Hukum Ekonomi Syariah

    Enhancing Students’ Critical Thinking and Confidence through Indirect Explicit Grammar Instruction (IEGI) in Learning Grammar

    The aim of this research is to find the strategy how Indirect Explicit Grammar Instruction(IEGI) is able to enhance students‟ critical thinking and confidence in learning tenses. Sincestudents usually tend to memorize the form of patter in learning tenses, as a result they havebeen repeated rule presentations of grammar structures and lose their sense of criticalthinking to discover. More over, learning grammar on isolated way also make students haveless confidence to speak because they can memorize the pattern, but they cannot use themaccurately. Using classroom action research in two cycle which every cycle consists of threemeetings, the data are collected by using observation cheklist, rubric, test, qestionnare andstudents participation sheet. The observation cheklist is used to get the data of theimplementation of IEGI during teaching learning activities in the classroom which studentswork in group. The result from rubric shows the improvement of students‟ ctitical thinkingability improve from 54.05% into 82.50%. While from the test which covered the ability inanalyzing and answering questions which need Higher Order Thinking improve significantlyfrom 47.56% into 80.90 %. While students‟ confidence improves significantly from 55.56%into 78.10

    Artikel ini memaparkan peran sastra dalam membangun karakter bangsa dalam perspektif pendidikan Isam. Salah satu langkah yang dapat dilakukan untuk membangun karakter bangsa adalah dengan mengoptimalkan peran sastra dalam pendidikan Islam. Pengoptimalan peran sastra perlu dilakukan karena sastra mengandung nilai-nilai etika dan moral yang berhubungan dengan kehidupan manusia. Banyak hal yang dibicarakan dalam sastra, termasuk masalah ketuhanan (religiusitas), alam semesta, dan masyarakat. Selain itu, karya sastra juga dapat membuka pengetahuan pembaca untuk mengetahui realitas sosial, politik, dan budaya dalam kerangka moral dan estetika. Demikian pula dengan pendidikan Islam yang juga bertujuan menanamkan nilai dan moralitas.     HOW CHILDREN PERCEIVE FOOD ADVERTISEMENTS ON TV: A SEMIOTICS ANALYSIS

    In digital era, advertising can reach people wider than before. Children are one of targeted consumers for food advertisements. Everyday children are shown by food advertisements while they are watching TV. These advertisements functioned both to deliver and utilize a wide variety of meaning, symbols and message called semiotics. Moreover, children are treated with variety of signs and symbols, but they have different ways of interpreting them.. This study investigated ten children (8-to-10 years old) to know about their perception towards food advertisements. Using semiotics analysis researcher interviewed children about ten food advertisements that are broadcasted on TV. The result shows that most of children can perceive well all signs and symbols communication conveyed by food advertisement. The most influence symbol that affected children to try product is food image that are usually performed in zoom mode and slow motion. Children also get understanding message, culture and value conveyed by food advertisements in positive side. It can support children to behave positively. While brand personal get les attention that brand character of food advertisements which children prefer more cartoon character as a brand mascot of food product

    Relationship between EFL young learners’ multiple intelligences and English Achievement in Bilingual School

    This research set out with the aim of assessing whether EFL young learners’ multiple intelligence in bilingual school in Intensive Cambridge Program (ICP) has influence on their English proficiency as the important determining factors. The total number of participant was 76 students which consist of 38 male and 38 female students of 2rd, and 5th grade of bilingual primary school. The instrument used to elicit information for this study is multiple intelligences survey for kid by Laura Candler and Cambridge Progress Test (CPT). The result shows that there is no significant relationship between EFL young learners’ multiple intelligences and English proficiency. To find the predictor of type of multiple intelligences which have strength to effect toward English achievement also showed no significant since the probability was small. It can be caused that in bilingual classroom since English is used not only as a subject but also as classroom instruction and language in the text book for science, mathematics and English itself. So student’s’ English proficiency had been influenced not only by how teacher conduct the class based on multiple intelligences, but by other input outside English subject

    The Effect of Four Square Writing Method (FSWM) through Picture Series in Writing Narrative Text for Eleventh Grade at SMA Nusantara Balongpanggang

    Good writing is important aspect in teaching writing subject. But the students find some problems that they faced in their writing which is in generating and organizing the ideas. Besides, the teacher also has problems in applying the appropriate method and media in teaching writing. Based on the previous studies, four square writing method gave the positive effect for the students. This study was to examine the significant effect of four square writing method through Picture Series in Writing Narrative Text for Eleventh Grade at SMA Nusantara Balongpanggang. And the researcher uses quasi experimental design. The researcher chose eleventh grade at SMA Nusantara Balongpanggang which totally consisted of 31 students. The researcher used cluster sampling because the school has been determined the classification of the students. It was included 16 students of XI-IPA as the experimental group and 15 students of XI- IPS as the control group. The data was collected by using tests; pre-test and post- test about writing narrative text. After getting the data, the researcher analyzed the data using SPSS 16.0 and used Independent Sample T test. The research finding showed that there was a significant difference between experimental group that were taught by using four square writing method andcontrol group that were taught by think pair share. It was proven by the result of sig. (2-tailed) is .000. The sig. (2-tailed) is lower than 0.05 (0.00 < 0.05) so, null hypothesis (Ho) can be rejected. The researcher concluded that four square writing method gave positive effect on students’ writing skill. The students were motivated and independent in learningwriting especially in generating and organizing the ideas. Therefore, the researcher suggests to the English teacher forimplementing of four square writing method through Picture Series as an alternative method in English teaching learningprocess and hopes to use four square writing method in other skills and levels to make different with the previous study

    ENABLING KINDEGARTEN CHILDREN OF RAUDATUL ATFAL AL-IKHLAS DUYU TO MEMORIZE ENGLISH WORDS THROUGH DRAWING AND COLORING

    Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengukur keefektifan metode menggambar dan mewarnai pada kemampuan  anak-anak RaudatulAtfal Al-Ikhlas Duyu dalam menghafal kata-kata bahas aInggris. Penelitian ini termasuk dalam quasi eksperimen, non ekuivalen control grup dan uji-t dalam pengujian statistiknya. Sampel group yang diuji  adalah  grup eksperimen yang diberikan perlakuan metode  menggambar  dan  mewarnai  dan  grup control diajarkan dengan  cara biasa  dalam  pembelajarannya.  Intstrumen data yang  dipakai adalah test dan  observasi. Tes digunakan sebagai acuan dasar pengujian, sedangkan lembar observasi hanya sebagai data penunjang hasil dari  test. Data dianalisis  menggunakan  uji-t SPSS dan metode  deskripsi.  Data yang didapatkan  diolah  dan  dianalisa  menggunakan SPSS 16.0, sedangkan  observasi  ceklis dijelaskan secara deskripsi. Berdasarkan analisis data, perbandingan hasil  pengujian  hipotesis post-test eksperimen  grup dan control grup  memperlihatkan  bahwa  nilai rata-rata dari grup eksperimen adalah 73.23 lebih besar dari pada nilai rata-rata dari group control yaitu 47.61. Hal ini  menunjukkan  bahwa  terdapat  perbedaan  hasil  tes  antara   group yang diberikan   perlakuan. Dari hasil  perhitungan di dapatkan t-hitung 16.383 dengan level signifikan yang lebih  besar  dari t-table 1.714, ini  berarti  bahwa   nul hypothesis (Ho) ditolak  dan   hipothesis alternative (Ha) diterima.  Dengan kata lain bahwa  kemampuan  anak di kelas   eksperimen  dalam   menghafal   kata-kata bahasa  Inggri   lebih  baik  dari  kelas yang hanya diajarkan  carak  onvensional

    Identifikasi Kesulitan Siswapada Materi Suhu Dan Kalor

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi kesulitan-kesulitan siswa pada materi suhu dan kalor dengan menggunakan tes diagnostik. Penelitian dilakukan di SMA Negeri 4 Malang dan SMA Negeri 7 Malang, dengan subjek penelitian adalah siswa kelas XI, terdiri atas 70 siswa. Penelitian menggunakan metode survey dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui tes dan angket. Dilakukan pula wawancara pada beberapa guru yang telah mengajar materi suhu dan kalor. Angket digunakan untuk mengetahui faktor-faktor penyebab kesulitan belajar siswa dan proses pembelajaran di kelas. Tes pada penelitian ini menggunakan tes diagnostik dalam bentuk uraian. Tes digunakan untuk mengetahui jenis-jenis kesulitan siwa. Berdasarkan hasil angket, faktor-faktor penyebab kesulitan belajar siswa meliputi bakat, minat, dan motivasi. Hasil angket menunjukkan sebanyak 96% siswa mengatakan bahwa pembelajaran dikelas dijelaskan oleh guru. Berdasarkan hasil tes, siswa mengalami kesulitan dalam memahami fisika yang disajikan dalam bentuk grafik dan gambar yakni 58,57%, kesulitan memahami konsep-konsep 68,57%, kesulitan yang berhubungan dengan perhitungan angka atau penggunaan rumus 40,0%, dan kesulitan membuat kesimpulan berdasarkan analisis 60,0%
