Dual sensing-actuation artificial muscle based on polypyrrole-carbon nanotube composite

Dual sensing artificial muscles based on conducting polymer are faradaic motors driven by electrochemical reactions, which announce the development of proprioceptive devices. The applicability of different composites has been investigated with the aim to improve the performance. Addition of carbon nanotubes may reduce irreversible reactions. We present the testing of a dual sensing artificial muscle based on a conducting polymer and carbon nanotubes composite. Large bending motions (up to 127 degrees) in aqueous solution and simultaneously sensing abilities of the operation conditions are recorded. LA UNIVERSIDAD Y LA ARTICULACIÓN DEL SISTEMA EDUCATIVO

La Universidad argentina se ha desarrollado desvinculada del resto del sistema educativo, lo que puede explicarse por diferentes factores: la tensa y, en repetidas ocasiones, conflictiva relación que mantuvo con el Estado, que condujo a que tuviese que abroquelarse en la autonomía en una actitud defensiva; la escasa relación que estableció con el sistema productivo; la ausencia de una concepción integral del sistema educativo, que articulara los diferentes niveles y modalidades; entre otros. Pero a la vez, el sistema educativo argentino (en adelante, SEA) sólo puede denominarse de este modo en un sentido figurado del término “sistema” porque, justamente, lo que lo ha caracterizado es la desarticulación de sus niveles y modalidades. A este rasgo constitutivo, en los últimos años se le ha agregado que las instituciones educativas se han ido distanciando entre sí de un modo muy acentuado en lo que hace a la calidad de sus procesos y resultados y a la población que atienden, lo que ha producido una fragmentación de los servicios educativos. En lo que se refiere al nivel superior -objeto de esta ponencia- esta desarticulación ha ocasionado diferentes problemas y disfunciones. A nivel de las instituciones y del sistema, provoca superposiciones de ofertas, vacancia de otras que presumiblemente serían pertinentes y títulos con igual denominación y diferente duración y contenidos. Para los individuos, las dificultades que siempre representó el acceso a la universidad y la correlativa deserción que se produce en el primer año de las carreras; así como que los egresados de los institutos superiores de formación docente y técnicos, si querían continuar estudiando una carrera universitaria, tuvieran que comenzar de cero -algo que en los últimos años se ha ido revirtiendo-. A partir del reconocimiento de la desarticulación, se han formulado una serie de iniciativas que, en la mayoría de los casos, se encuentran en plena implementación y, en líneas generales, implican avances en relación con la situación previa; pero –como es lógico- no atacan todos los problemas y, es más, algunos de ellos no han sido contemplados en estas políticas. El objetivo de esta ponencia es revisar las alternativas de articulación que se están implementando, para señalar sus limitaciones y formular algunas sugerencias para proponer alternativas al respecto. Para ello, primero se formula una breve apreciación sobre los orígenes de la desarticulación del SEA y, en particular, del nivel superior; luego, se consideran las experiencias de articulación de la educación superior en curso; posteriormente, se repara en los distintos objetivos y alcances de estas experiencias y, por último, se proponen líneas para favorecer una mayor vinculación de la Universidad con el resto del SEA, en particular, orientadas a que se logre un efectivo aumento de la cobertura del nivel superior, con ofertas que atiendan las diferentes demandas y necesidades

Properties of polypyrrole polyvinilsulfate films for dual actuator sensing systems

One of the challenges of modern science is the development of actuators able to sense working conditions while actuation, mimicking the way in which biological organs work. Actuation of those organs includes nervous (electric) pulses dense reactive gels, chemical reactions exchange of ions and solvent. For that purpose, conducting polymers are being widely studied. In this work the properties of self-supported films of the polypyrrole:polyvinilsulfate (PPy/PVS) blend polymer were assessed. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) studies show how during reduction / oxidation the polymer exchanges cations when immersed in a NaClO4 aqueous solution, revealing free positive charges in the electrolytic solution as the driving agents leading to the swelling/shrinking of the polymer. Eventually it is the phenomenon responsible of the actuation of the polymeric motors. Submitting the system to consecutive potential sweeps shows the reaction is really sensing the scan rate used in each cycle revealing that while actuating the system is actually sensing the electrochemical working conditions.The research was supported by European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under the Marie Sklodowska-Curie grant agreement No 641822

Implicit Bias: from social structure to representational format

In this paper, I argue against the view that the representational structure of the implicit attitudes responsible for implicitly biased behaviour is propositional—as opposed to associationist. The proposal under criticism moves from the claim that implicit biased behaviour can occasionally be modulated by logical and evidential considerations to the view that the structure of the implicit attitudes responsible for such biased behaviour is propositional. I argue, in particular, against the truth of this conditional. Sensitivity to logical and evidential considerations, I contend, proves to be an inadequate criterion for establishing the true representational structure of implicit attitudes. Considerations of a different kind, which emphasize the challenges posed by the structural social injustice that implicit attitudes reflect, offer, I conclude, better support for deciding this issue in favour of an associationist view

Reconstruction of the Cosmic Equation of State for High Redshift

We investigate the possibilities of reconstructing the cosmic equation of state (EoS) for high redshift. In order to obtain general results, we use two model-independent approaches. The first reconstructs the EoS using comoving distance and the second makes use of the Hubble parameter data. To implement the first method, we use a recent set of Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs) measures. To implement the second method, we generate simulated data using the Sandage-Loeb ($SL$) effect; for the fiducial model, we use the $\Lambda CDM$ model. In both cases, the statistical analysis is conducted through the Gaussian processes (non-parametric). In general, we demonstrate that this methodology for reconstructing the EoS using a non-parametric method plus a model-independent approach works appropriately due to the feasibility of calculation and the ease of introducing a priori information ($H_ {0}$ and $\Omega_{m0}$). In the near future, following this methodology with a higher number of high quality data will help obtain strong restrictions for the EoS.Comment: 9 pages, 5 figure
