An Evaluation of the IGT-Heliotest Printability Tester

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the IGT-Heliotest Printability Tester. The recommendation to evaluate this test was based on the results of a correlation study of six different printability tests. The IGT-Heliotest was the only test of the six that conformed to the theoretical model developed during this study.1 As a result of this study, the IGT-Heliotest will be purchased by Kellogg\u27s; with the expectation of significantly improving Quality Assurance\u27s acceptance program for gravure carton board

THE NUANCES OF PRIVACY POLICIES WITHIN THREE TYPES OF ARCHIVAL INSTITUTIONS

    Get PDF
The ethical and legal issues surrounding privacy, and specifically third-party privacy in an archival setting is a topic that scholars and archivists have considered for decades. Competing interests are involved: a hope for fully open access archives; for researchers to be able to use a repository to its fullest extent and for a repository to build a sense of trust within a community. However, maintaining the privacy of third parties in a document who did not or could not necessarily consent to their private affairs being donated, maintaining the privacy as requested by a donor or the family of a donor or whomever is associated or has the rights to the donated materials is crucial to the integrity of a repository. This content analysis aims to explore third party privacy and overall privacy policies at archival institutions in three categories: state archives, private academic archives, and museums, in addition to an open archive. Here, there will be an analysis of how the laws surrounding privacy come into play, the ethical issues surrounding privacy vs open access, and an observation for best recommendations moving forward.Master of Science in Library Scienc

FoamVis, A Visualization System for Foam Research: Design and Implementation

    Get PDF
Liquid foams are used in areas such as mineral separation, oil recovery, food and beverage production, sanitation and fire fighting. To improve the quality of products and the efficiency of processes in these areas, foam scientists wish to understand and control foam behaviour. To this end, foam scientists have used foam simulations to model foam behaviour; however, analysing these simulations presents difficult challenges. We describe the main foam research challenges and present the design of FoamVis, the only existing visualization, exploration and analysis application created to address them. We describe FoamVis’ main features, together with relevant design and implementation notes. Our goal is to provide a global overview and individual feature implementation details that would allow a visualization scientist to extend the FoamVis system with new algorithms and adapt it to new requirements. The result is a detailed presentation of the software that is not provided in previous visualization research papers

Hypersensitivity Response to Aspergillus fumigatus: Immunopathogenesis of Allergic Airway Disease and Pulmonary Arterial Remodeling.

Sensitization of CD4+ T cells to innocuous antigens results in adverse hypersensitivity responses upon re-exposure to the antigens. In the lung, chronic hypersensitivity responses to inhaled antigens result in the immunopathogenesis of various diseases. The ubiquitous fungus Aspergillus fumigatus releases airborne conidia and is associated with several pulmonary hypersensitivity diseases. We hypothesized that repeated inhalation of A. fumigatus conidia will result in a CD4+ T cell-mediated hypersensitivity response that promotes pathological alterations in lung structure and function. Viable A. fumigatus conidia (2×106) were administered to C57BL/6 mice via the intranasal route every week for a variable number of total exposures. In a CD4+ T cell-independent manner, the innate immune response prevented growth of inhaled conidia. In a CD4+ T cell-dependent manner, a significant increase in airway lymphocytes and eosinophils resulted from several exposures to conidia. Thus, repeated inhalation of conidia resulted in a CD4+ T cell-mediated hypersensitivity response out of proportion to the fungal burden. The chronic hypersensitivity response to A. fumigatus did not result in progressive airway remodeling but did result in severe, progressive remodeling of pulmonary arteries reminiscent of the primary abnormality found in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension. The lumens of small-to-medium sized pulmonary arteries were significantly narrowed, and the remodeled arterial walls were muscularized, fibrotic, and exhibited signs of neointimal formation. CD4+ T cells were required for the full manifestation of pulmonary inflammation and arterial remodeling, but some degree of CD4+ T cell-independent luminal narrowing was noted. Arterial remodeling developed in mice deficient for IFNγ, the critical TH1 effector cytokine, but not in mice deficient for IL-4, a critical cytokine for the manifestation of TH2 responses. IL-10-deficient mice did not develop CD4+ TH2 cells, airway eosinophilia, or arterial remodeling. Based on results from the study of IL-5-deficient mice, the TH2-mediated pathogenesis of arterial remodeling did not require eosinophils. Though mice developed severe arterial muscularization, arterial fibrosis, and significant luminal narrowing, mice did not develop pulmonary hypertension as a result. Along with several recent reports, these data support a novel mechanism for the pathogenesis of pulmonary arterial remodeling.Ph.D.ImmunologyUniversity of Michigan, Horace H. Sustainable Agriculture: Aquaponic Solutions

    Get PDF
The Sustainable Agriculture team is using a soil-free, closed-loop, agricultural technique called aquaponics to help lift communities out of malnutrition and poverty. Aquaponics techniques decrease the use of natural resources associated with growing crops. The Sustainable Agriculture team is partnering with Sheltering Wings, a non-profit based in Missouri who ministers with an orphanage and women\u27s shelter in Yako, Burkina Faso and Transworld Radio, a Christian radio broadcasting station located in Benin. The team currently has a best practice prototype in operation. The system will be optimized to fit client needs. In order to meet those needs, the team has been analyzing alternative materials for system construction, cooling techniques to maintain water temperature, and biological indicators for plant health. The goal of the project is to support clients from system construction to crop harvest. Support will be supplied via a comprehensive user manual that outlines how to build, operate, and maintain an aquaponics system and regular communication.https://mosaic.messiah.edu/engr2020/1012/thumbnail.jp

The paper is devoted to issues of account magnetic asymmetry of salient-pole synchronous motors by the method of locale sections. Mathematical formulation of developed method version and digital implementation structures of it are given. Results of nonlinear magnetization vector-function on the main magnetic path calculation are presented. This vector-function is useful for both synchronous salient-pole motor mathematical simulation and digital control system design of it
