Problems of regulation of oxidative stress and the search for biologically active substances with antioxidant activity are the focus of researchers. Chicory (Cichorium intybus L.) is a plant containing various biologically active substances (hydroxycinnamic acid, flavonoids, coumarins, ascorbic acid, carotenoids, etc.), exhibiting antioxidant properties. The aim of our study was to evaluate the effect of aqueous and alcoholic extracts of chicory herbs on the processes of free radical oxidation in model systems in vitro using rapid method of determining antioxidant activity, based on the registration of chemiluminescence. A model system generating active oxygen species (ROS) was phosphate buffer with the addition of luminol solution and sodium citrate to initiate reactions involving the formation of ROS injected Fe2+ salt solution. Impact of extracts on lipid peroxidation was studied in chicken yolks homogenized in phosphate buffer. For initiation of oxidation reactions Fe2+ solution was used. Lipid peroxidation (LPO) processes were judged by the light intensity. The effect of aqueous and alcoholic extracts of common chicory herbs in various concentrations on the processes of free radical oxidation in the active forms of oxygen in the system (ROS) and LPO was researched. The study revealed the ability of the extracts of the chicory herb suppress the generation of ROS and LPO in model systems that characterizes their antioxidant properties, which are most pronounced when administered aqueous extracts of chicory herbs compared with alcohol in model systems at a concentration of 0.1 mg/ml

Exploring manycore architectures for next-generation HPC systems through the MANGO approach

[EN] The Horizon 2020 MANGO project aims at exploring deeply heterogeneous accelerators for use in High-Performance Computing systems running multiple applications with different Quality of Service (QoS) levels. The main goal of the project is to exploit customization to adapt computing resources to reach the desired QoS. For this purpose, it explores different but interrelated mechanisms across the architecture and system software. In particular, in this paper we focus on the runtime resource management, the thermal management, and support provided for parallel programming, as well as introducing three applications on which the project foreground will be validated. This project has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 671668.Flich Cardo, J.; Agosta, G.; Ampletzer, P.; Atienza-Alonso, D.; Brandolese, C.; Cappe, E.; Cilardo, A.... Survey of Memory Management Techniques for HPC and Cloud Computing

    Get PDF
The emergence of new classes of HPC applications and usage models, such as real-time HPC and cloud HPC, coupled with the increasingly heterogeneous nature of HPC architectures, requires a renewed investigation of memory management solutions. Traditionally, memory is shared by an operating system using segmentation and paging techniques. At the same time, new classes of applications require Quality of Service (QoS) guarantees. As such, the typical practice of reserving a subset of the supercomputer to a single application becomes less attractive, leading to the exploration of cloud technologies. In this context, a viable scenario is that of multiple applications, with different QoS levels, coexisting on the same deeply heterogeneous HPC infrastructure and sharing resources. However, for this scenario to succeed in practice, resources, including memory, need to be allocated with a vision that includes both the application requirements and the current and future state of the overall system. In this survey, challenges of memory management in HPC and Cloud Computing, different memory management systems and optimisation techniques to increase memory utilisation are discussed in detail

Prediction-based partitions evaluation algorithm for resource allocation

    No full text
Resource allocation is a well-known problem, with a large number of research contributions towards efficient utilisation of the massive hardware parallelism using various exact and heuristic approaches. We address the problem of optimising resources usage on deeply heterogeneous platforms in the context of HPC systems running multiple applications with different quality of service levels. Our approach manages the partitioning within a single heterogeneous node aiming at serving as many critical applications as possible while leaving to the upper levels of runtime resource management the decision to preempt resources or to launch the critical application on a different node. We investigate predictive allocation algorithms, allowing to serve up to 20% more high priority requests when using a moving average or machine learning prediction model vs baseline without prediction

Algorithm for the boundary detection of dental crowns for 3D dental model segmentation

    No full text
This paper presents the segmentation algorithm on the 3D digital dental model for separating individual dental crown using fuzzy multi criteria analysis and Visualization Toolkit (VTK). The aim is to apply the algorithm in the 3D aligner development software package. The digital dental model is produced by 3D scanner in STL format and dental crown contour is calculated based two control points defined by user. Fussy multi criteria analysis with pairwise comparison of the mesh points aims to select a points subset that define the boundary between the dental crown and the jawbone. VTK provides ease of use computer graphics algorithms and visualisation tools. The result has shown that the proposed approach can successfully separate dental crown on the 3D digital dental model
