____________________________________________The present paper analyses some of the most important methodological failures in Keynes’ model of economy. Keynes’ “general theory” meant an immeasurable advance with respect to the previous classical and neoclassical models. However, his ideas did not achieve to give the definite step forward, required to construct a long-term economic theory, able to fight against the cyclical crises, to achieve complete occupation of labour force, and to improve the distribution of wealth and income. The reason why Keynes’ ideas were insufficient is that they were based on the symptoms rather than on the real problems, problems that also the classical and neoclassical theories were unable to solve. Besides, Keynes used only nationalist measures, while the problems to be solved required supranational actions. In addition, he adopted only short term policies, forgetting long-term ones. Finally, to approach the solutions to the economic problems, he only used a momentary and current point of view, not taking into account the structural and institutional framework omitting, therefore, the search for definitive and true solutions to all those problems
____________________________________________The present paper deals with the ideas proposed by Keynes in 19 , in his report to the Conference of Bretton Woods, about how the worldwide economic order should be structured. Against Keynes’ ideas, the author notices that the economic order after the Second World War was determined by North American interests and by their intention to make the dollar become the ruling world power, to which the expectations of progress and development of the rest of the countries would be subordinated. Due to these facts, the situation of the underdeveloped countries has worsen, with its scourges of hunger and misery that affect two thirds of humanity. This situation constitutes, today, the major economic problem of the world. The author supports the thesis that, if they had applied Keynes’ proposals, the worsening of the underdeveloped countries, as we know it today, could have been avoided or, at least, its development would have taken another direction enabling them to find solutions to their own needs. Even today, Keynes’ proposal is still valid and could be a guideline to implement a new worldwide economic order, able to face the problems of underdevelopment. However, the difficulties that in the present moment impede the application of Keynes’ reformist proposal are both of political and economic nature. For these reasons, the author arrives to the conclusion that the way to apply Keynes’s ideas requires worldwide constitutional changes that would enable to correct the main economic problems of the current world
Simultaneous measurement of forward-backward asymmetry and top polarization in dilepton final states from production at the Tevatron
We present a simultaneous measurement of the forward-backward asymmetry and
the top-quark polarization in production in dilepton final states
using 9.7 fb of proton-antiproton collisions at TeV with
the D0 detector. To reconstruct the distributions of kinematic observables we
employ a matrix element technique that calculates the likelihood of the
possible kinematic configurations. After accounting for the presence
of background events and for calibration effects, we obtain a forward-backward
asymmetry of and a top-quark polarization times spin analyzing power in the beam
basis of ,
with a correlation of between the measurements. If we constrain the
forward-backward asymmetry to its expected standard model value, we obtain a
measurement of the top polarization of If we constrain the top polarization to its
expected standard model value, we measure a forward-backward asymmetry of
A
combination with the D0 measurement in the lepton+jets final

results are consistent with the standard model expectations.Comment: 16 pages, 16 figures, published versio

Generative Adversarial Networks for Bitcoin Data Augmentation
In Bitcoin entity classification, results are strongly conditioned by the
ground-truth dataset, especially when applying supervised machine learning
approaches. However, these ground-truth datasets are frequently affected by
significant class imbalance as generally they contain much more information
regarding legal services (Exchange, Gambling), than regarding services that may
be related to illicit activities (Mixer, Service). Class imbalance increases
the complexity of applying machine learning techniques and reduces the quality
of classification results, especially for underrepresented, but critical
classes.
In this paper, we propose to address this problem by using Generative
Adversarial Networks (GANs) for Bitcoin data augmentation as GANs recently have
shown promising results in the domain of image classification. However, there
is no "one-fits-all" GAN solution that works for every scenario. In fact,
setting GAN training parameters is non-trivial and heavily affects the quality
of the generated synthetic data. We therefore evaluate how GAN parameters such
as the optimization function, the size of the dataset and the chosen batch size
affect GAN implementation for one underrepresented entity class (Mining Pool)
and demonstrate how a "good" GAN configuration can be obtained that achieves
high similarity between synthetically generated and real Bitcoin address data.
To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study presenting GANs as a
valid tool for generating synthetic address data for data augmentation in
Bitcoin entity classification.Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures, 4 table
Precise measurement of the top quark mass in dilepton decays using optimized neutrino weighting
We measure the top quark mass in dilepton final states of top-antitop events
in proton-antiproton collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV, using data corresponding
to an integrated luminosity of 9.7 fb^-1 at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The
analysis features a comprehensive optimization of the neutrino weighting method
to minimize the statistical uncertainties. We also improve the calibration of
jet energies using the calibration determined in top-antitop to lepton+jets
events, which reduces the otherwise limiting systematic uncertainty from the
jet energy scale. The measured top quark mass is mt = 173.32 +/- 1.36(stat) +/-
0.85(syst) GeV.Comment: 10 pages, 2 figures, 2 tables, subm. to Phys. Lett.
Trapping Elusive Cp*Co(III) Metallacycles: Implications in C-H Functionalization Processes
Among the different strategies developed over the past decades, ligand-directed transition-metal-catalyzed transformations have achieved remarkable progress, becoming an attractive alternative to traditional cross-coupling reactions. During decades, these catalytic systems required noble transition metals for the efficient construction of organic molecules. However, in the past few years, more cost-effective first-row metals, such as cobalt, have emerged as an appealing alternative to precious metals. In this context, the employment of Cp*CoIII complexes have represented a tremendous advance in cobalt catalysis, since they have the potential to promote a wide variety of C–C and C–heteroatom bond-forming reactions, via putative cyclometalated cobalt(III) species. Despite this significant progress, these cobalt systems are still at their infancy compared to Rh- or Pd-based ones, essentially due to the limited fundamental organometallic understanding of these systems. The investigation of the underlying reaction mechanisms of these transformations has been hampered by the difficulty to detect/isolate key intermediates. Challenged by the lack of fundamental knowledge of these transformations, in this Doctoral thesis we explore: i) the design and development of novel synthetic routes for accessing well-defined and stable cobalt metallacycles, analogous to proposed key reactive intermediates; ii) the employment of these Cp*CoIII metallacycles not only for unravelling previous inaccessible mechanistic intricacies of selected Cp*CoIII-catalyzed processes but also for improving their efficiency; and finally, iii) the participation and/or effect of some additives in different benchmark transformations. The fundamental knowledge generated during this Doctoral Thesis has led to important breakthroughs in cobalt catalysis, specially at molecular level
