The effectiveness of the innovative process implemented by SMEs. The results of the empirical research
The essence and the importance of innovation in the process
of building the competitiveness of enterprises is widely described in the
economic literature. But analysis of innovative activity of companies very
often indicates that the innovations introduced to the market do not bring the
expected benefits. This leads to the conclusion that very often the innovation
activities of enterprises are inefficient and detailed analysis
of such cases may identify the key barriers to implementing effective
innovation.
The modern model for innovative activity indicates that one of the
key factors for the success of the innovative activity of enterprises is the
proper implementation of introducing new solutions to the market. The
problem of the diffusion of innovation involves a number of issues related to
the process of spreading and promoting innovation in the market.
It is widely recognized that competencies in the area of innovation diffusion
are a key determinant of the innovative potential of a company.
The author put forward the following research hypotheses:
Innovative activities carried out by the surveyed companies are
inefficient.
The purpose of this paper is to present the problems associated with
the effective diffusion of innovation in the SME sector in Poland, with
particular emphasis on the barriers in this area. Commonly available
statistical data, the author's empirical research results on innovation potential
and results of other studies conducted by the University
of Szczecin were used to prepare this publication.Preparation and printing funded by the National Agency for Research and Development under project “Kreator Innowacyjności – wparcie dla Przedsiębiorczości akademickiej
The Knowledge Management for Innovation Processes for SME Sector Companies
The complexity and variability of the modern economy means that the informationbecomes a key resource, essential for the proper functioning of anyenterprise and in the broader sense of the country and the national economy.Currently, practically all areas of modern economics are grappling withthe problem of information management, both in theory and practice. It isespecially visible in the attempts to support knowledge management in theareas, which are considered core from the viewpoint of increasing marketcompetitiveness of the company. Knowledge management in the field of company’sinnovative potential or in the area of intellectual capital may serve asan example. This situation forces the search for new solutions of knowledgemanagement in the field of research and evaluation of the innovative potentialof companies. The main purpose of this article is to present an Internetplatform for innovation audit, as a tool which supports knowledge management. An additional goal of this article is to present the preliminary results ofa research carried out by means of the described tools
Infrared Absorption Study of Zn-S Hybrid and ZnS Ultrathin Films Deposited on Porous AAO Ceramic Support
Infrared (IR) spectroscopy is a powerful technique to characterize the chemical structure and dynamics of various types of samples. However, the signal-to-noise-ratio drops rapidly when the sample thickness gets much smaller than penetration depth, which is proportional to wavelength. This poses serious problems in analysis of thin films. In this work, an approach is demonstrated to overcome these problems. It is shown that a standard IR spectroscopy can be successfully employed to study the structure and composition of films as thin as 20 nm, when the layers were grown on porous substrates with a well-developed surface area. In contrast to IR spectra of the films deposited on flat Si substrates, the IR spectra of the same films but deposited on porous ceramic support show distinct bands that enabled reliable chemical analysis. The analysis of Zn-S ultrathin films synthesized by atomic layer deposition (ALD) from diethylzinc (DEZ) and 1,5-pentanedithiol (PDT) as precursors of Zn and S, respectively, served as proof of concept. However, the approach presented in this study can be applied to analysis of any ultrathin film deposited on target substrate and simultaneously on porous support, where the latter sample would be a reference sample dedicated for IR analysis of this film.Peer reviewe
Impact of selected regional characteristics on innovation effectiveness of the SME sector
PURPOSE: The purpose of the study is to try to determine whether there is a relationship
between the determinants of a region's innovativeness and the effectiveness of innovation
activities carried out by small and medium-sized companies (SMEs) operating in the area.
The author formulated the following research hypothesis: (H1) There is a positive
correlation between the determinants of a region's innovativeness and the effectiveness of
innovation activities carried out by SMEs in a given region.DESIGN/METHODOLOGY/APPROACH: The study is based on the exploratory-descriptive method,
which involves the statistical compilation of the collected results in selected analytical
contexts. The survey was conducted between July 2023 and September 2023 and included
1,745 companies from all regions of Poland. The analysis uses basic descriptive statistics
and measures of innovation effectiveness accepted in the literature. Data was collected
through an online survey. Official data published by EUROSTAT and the Central Statistical
Office (CSO) were used for comparative analysis of the level of innovation in different
regions of Poland.FINDINGS: The article examines the relationship between the specific characteristics of the
region (geographically and at the national administrative level) and the measurable effects
of the innovative activities of SME companies that operate in the region. The author refers to
his own previous research in the field of measuring the effects of innovation activities of SME
companies. The article identifies key features of the region that significantly affect the
innovative efficiency of the SME sector.PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS: The research conducted can be used in two main
areas/stakeholder groups: (1) regional authorities - shaping regional policies in support
of innovation, (2) SME business owners - increasing the efficiency of innovation
activities.ORIGINALITY/VALUE: The article presents the results of the Author's own cyclical research. The
presented results have not been published and discussed scientifically before.peer-reviewe
