Beyond the Public/Private Divide : New Perspectives on Sexuality, Hospitality, and Diplomacy within Royal Spaces
This article presents the theme of the special edition, provides a case study, and sets out the ways in which the contributions consider how notions of privacy and the private emerged, influenced, or existed within and around the institution of monarchy. One of the key ways to tackle privacy is to investigate the idea of âaccessâ and âaccessibilityâ, which is an underlying theme throughout the contributions of this special edition. Each contributor informs the phenomena of privacy, and thus privacy studies, through their research. These articles seek to understand the ways in which sexuality, hospitality, and diplomacy are shaped by notions of privacy and the private, as a means of contextualising and understanding the nuances of gender, power, and the interrelations of rulership.Peer reviewe
Suffering, Pity, and Pride: Complexities of the Russian-American adoption relationship from the early 1990's to 2007
Thesis (M.A.) University of Alaska Fairbanks, 2008This thesis describes and analyzes the Russian-American adoption relationship
between the early 1990s and 2007. In the early 1990s, an Non-Governmental
Organization report depicting Russian orphanages provided Americans with pitiful
images of Russian orphaned children. The report became iconic and shaped the way
Americans perceived Russian orphans and orphanages. For the rest of the 1990s,
Russian children became one of the most popular adoption choices for American
parents; these children had the ârightâ race and could be âsavedâ. In 2005, news started
to surface that adopted Russian children had been murdered in the U.S. by American
adoptive parents. The Russian government responded to this news by placing a
moratorium on all foreign adoptions. American adoption practices have, in many ways,
hurt the pride of Russians. The perceptions Americans have of Russia as a âthird worldâ
country, and the perceptions Russians have of Americans as âgreedy Westernersâ,
influenced the dynamics of this intercountry adoption relationship over the course of
fifteen years. In 2007 the ban was lifted, but the relationship had changed significantly
due to the shifting priorities of American adoptive parents and the dynamics of U.S.-
Russian international relations

A special education composition curriculum: An interactive approach
Writing instruction that reflects the variety or represented pupil intelligences and learning styles in a special day classroom can significantly increase a child\u27s opportunity for success. Attending to these areas while simultaneously taking into account student strengths, interests, and desires can facilitate the academic process. Written language skills and achievement must be addressed in a supportive and encouraging climate motivating children and maximizing their willingness to undertake new concepts
The Personal Computer and Gravity Probe-B Management
The Gravity Probe-B (GP-B) experiment is one of the most sophisticated and challenging developments to be undertaken by NASA. Its objective is to measure the relativistic drift of gyroscopes in orbit about the Earth. In this paper, the experiment is described, and the strategy of phased procurements for accomplishing the engineering development of the hardware is discussed.
The microcomputer is a very convenient and powerful tool in the management of GP-B. It is used in creating and monitoring such project data as schedules, budgets, hardware procurements and technical and interface requirements. Commercially available software in word processing, database management, communications, spreadsheet, graphics and program management are used. Examples are described of the efficacy of the application of the computer by the management team
