Paronomàsia i homofonia en el joc de paraules

Els jocs de paraules semblen dur imprès l'estigma de la intraduïbilitat. A tot estirar, s'invoca el talent literari del traductor com a únic criteri vàlid d'equivalència. Tanmateix, certs autors contemporanis presenten una manera peculiar d'utilització del joc de paraules, alhora com a fenòmen d'enunciació i com a signe. Només la consideració sistemàtica de les diferents figures que afecten al significant, o sia a la substància fònica dels mots ens permetrà dibuixar, tot partint de la retòrica, una perspectiva suficient que depassi les interpretacions que tendeixen a reduir-lo, massa sovint, a una mera qüestió d'estil individual. Les diferents etapes d'aquest estudi, així com les conclusions, han de revelar-se fructíferes no solament per a la teoria literària i la teoria de la traducció sinó també per a l'activitat traductora pròpiament dita.Word play seems to bear the stigma of «that which cannot be translated». At the most, thetranslator's literary talent is used as the only valid criteria for equivalence. Furthermore, certain contemporary authors present a peculiar use of word play as both utterance and sign. Only the systematic consideration of the different figures that affect the signifier, that is, the phonic substance of the words, will allow us, using rhetoric as a starting point, to find a perspective able to overcome the interpretations that, only too often, tend to reduce word play to a question of individual style. The different phases of this study and the conclusions should prove to be fruitful, not only for literary theory and translation theory, but also for the work of the translator

Aesthetic modernity as an imponderable: Vallespinosa translating Cocteau, Ionesco and other contemporary playwrights

Durant el segle xx la modernitat ha estat un imponderable en el sentit que s’ha imposat amb una hegemonia gairebé incontestada. Bonaventura Vallespinosa, que també havia traduït grans clàssics de tots els temps, va mostrar una actitud d’enrolament dins la modernitat, entesa com a marc d’innovació estètica i, en conseqüència, també inseparable d’una ètica de la llengua catalana lligada a la cultura i a la societat. En aquesta comunicació ens centrem en la tasca de Vallespinosa com a traductor teatral, centrada en obres inèdites i/o no estrenades. La seva particular ponderació dels moderns el porta a fer seva una poètica del joc de paraules i de l’alteració verbal, sobretot en les seves traduccions inèdites d’Eugène Ionesco.In the 20th century modernity has ben an imponderable insofar as it has been imposed with virtually uncontested hegemony. Bonaventura Vallespinosa, translator of some of the great classics of all times, clearly signed up to modernity, which he conceived as a framework for aesthetic innovation and also, therefore, as inseparable from an ethics of the Catalan language in that it is part of culture and society. In this paper we focus on the work of Vallespinosa as a translator of dramatic works, with particular emphasis on unpublished and/or unstaged works. The particular importance he gave to the moderns led him to embrace the poetics of wordplay and verbal distortion, especially in his unpublished translations of the work of Eugène Ionesco
