    The ZEUS Micro Vertex Detector

    Get PDF
During the HERA luminosity shutdown period 2000/01 the tracking system of the ZEUS experiment has been upgraded with a silicon Micro Vertex Detector (MVD). The barrel part of the detector consists of three layers of single sided silicon strip detectors, while the forward section is composed of four wheels. In this report we shortly present the assembly procedure and in more details the test beam results on the spatial resolution of half modules. The first results of a cosmic ray test are presented and the radiation monitor system is described.Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures, Talk presented at the VERTEX 2001 Workshop, 23-28 Sept. 2001, Brunnen, Switzerland. The conflicts arising from the differences of interest between the company and its directors have been the object of study in the organizational context. One of the problems related to these conflicts is the moral hazard, which is characterized by an opportunistic behavior of the manager after the contract is signed. In order to reduce this problem, the company’s owner may use incentives, which have the important function of aligning the manager’sinterests to its own, reducing the moral hazard and establishing the company in a position of competitive advantage. The objective of this paper is to analyze the influence of the type of incentive (monetary, non monetary or mixed) in the manager’s moral hazard intention. The method used was a quasi-experiment, which was applied in pairs and in a three round game, considering the three different types of incentives. The results showed that the type of incentive didn’t influence significantly the respondents’ answers. Yet an interactive effect, that comes from the inexistence of a previous knowledge of the partner, was identified in the relationship between the type of incentive and the moral hazard intention, which provoked a significantly increase when the money was used as incentive

Polycation-Capped CdS Quantum Dots Synthesized in Reverse Microemulsions

This paper is focused on the formation and recovery of cadmium sulfide (CdS) nanoparticles in two different types of polycation-modified reverse microemulsions using low molecular weight poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (PDADMAC) and poly(ethyleneimine) (PEI). Both polymers were incorporated in a quaternary w/o microemulsion consisting of water, toluene-pentanol (1 : 1), and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), as well as in a ternary w/o microemulsion consisting of water, heptanol, and 3-(N,N-dimethyl-dodecylammonio)-propanesulfonate (SB). UV-vis and fluorescence measurements in the microemulsion illustrate the capping effect of the polycations on the formation of the CdS quantum dots. The nanoparticles are redispersed in water and characterized by using UV-vis and fluorescence spectroscopy, in combination with dynamic light scattering. From the quaternary microemulsion, only nanoparticle aggregates of about 100 nm can be redispersed, but, from the ternary microemulsion, well-stabilized polycation-capped CdS quantum dots can be obtained. The results show that the electrostatic interactions between the polycation and the surfactant are of high relevance especially in the solvent evaporation and redispersion process. That means only that in the case of moderate polycation-surfactant interactions a redispersion of the polymer-capped CdS quantum dots without problems of aggregation is possible

A LÓGICA DOMINANTE DO SERVIÇO EM MARKETING – UM NOVO PARADIGMA?

    Get PDF

The Expected Perimeter in Eden and Related Growth Processes

Following Richardson and using results of Kesten on First-passage percolation, we obtain an upper bound on the expected perimeter in an Eden Growth Process. Using results of the author from a problem in Statistical Mechanics, we show that the average perimeter of the lattice animals resulting from a very natural family of "growth histories" does not obey a similar bound.Comment: 11 page

Best Our Husky Compact Reflection Act with Personal Integrity and Civic Responsibility . Runner Up Undergraduate Oral Presentation. Abstract Demographic and Landscape Change in Linden Hills, Minneapolis: A Case Study in Gentrification. Linden Hills, a Minneapolis neighborhood best known for its hilly linden-tree lined streets, charming homes, parks, and boutique-style shops, is undergoing a transformation from an older generation neighborhood, of lower-income, into a trendy, young urbanite area--a process commonly referred to as gentrification . Using city records and Google Map\u27s Street View, and drawing on results from a survey of Linden Hills residents, I identify changes in the residential landscape of Linden Hills over the past 50 years and gather opinions on gentrification and the resulting community transformation. From this I was able to see how personal identities changed as the landscape transformed. Through survey and observation, I analyzed that international food offerings within this neighborhood demonstrate how residents have accepted global influences amongst the challenges they have faced with gentrification. While the process of re-making place is neither inherently good or bad, the social, economic, and cultural impacts of such landscape transformation deserves attention at the local scale. I argue that no matter the challenges a neighborhood may face, including those resulting from the process of gentrification, they can still adapt and learn from those changes over time

Harmonia tonal. Função harmônica
