Public Opinion of Equal Pay following the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team Lawsuit
On International Women’s Day in March 2019, the United States Women’s National Team filed a class action lawsuit against the United States Soccer Federation asserting violations of the Equal Pay Act (EPA) and Title VII. The 22 million lump sum payment. Following the victory of the USWNT equal pay lawsuit against the USSF, a new outlook for equal pay in women’s athletics began. The objective of this analysis will be to expand the literature and determine how the USWNT Equal Pay movement has shifted public opinion. Specifically, this study is designed to collect the opinions of men and women on their knowledge of the lawsuit and general opinion on women’s athletics. Study participants will be university student athletes, teachers, and coaches representing both genders, various races, and ages ranging from 18 years to 80 years. Using quantitative methods, the analysis will include using a one-way multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) test to examine the data from the surveys. Using the MANOVA will make it possible to see if there is a difference in opinion between ages groups, genders, and races
Health and safety in the gig economy: a qualitative investigation with TaskRabbit workers
2020 Fall.Includes bibliographical references.Work in the United States is increasingly moving towards contingent positions in the online gig economy, raising concerns about worker health, safety, and well-being in the absence of regulatory frameworks found in traditional employment. The present study examines the health and safety experiences of workers who provide their labor through an online platform called TaskRabbit, which is characterized by gig economy workers who offer freelance labor services to clients, such as cleaning and moving services. Little research has been done with this population; most studies on gig economy workers thus far have focused on on-demand driving companies such as Uber and Lyft. Health risks may arise from little workplace support for physical and mental health. Safety hazards may arise from a lack of training, unregulated physical environments in which tasks take place, and risk of injury due to physical labor. Negative outcomes due to stress may arise from low job control due to algorithmic management (i.e., computerized algorithms that make management decisions based on statistics such as customer approval ratings), and from interpersonal stressors such as incivility (i.e., rude comments, inconsiderate behavior) and unfair treatment. I investigated these potential risks through the use of one-hour, semi-structured qualitative interviews conducted via online video. The interview data was analyzed for recurring themes and sub-themes related to the study topics. The findings provide information on the unique health and safety experiences of the TaskRabbit workforce, which is essential to the development of future quantitative studies and interventions
Trust and the future of financial intermediation
The purpose of this thesis is to explore how trust affects the future of financial
intermediation following the PSD2-regulation. To research this topic we draw on a
broad theoretical foundation involving research on financial intermediation, strategic
resources, technological shocks, cognitive perceptions and trust. The study has a mixed
methods design with three seperate forms of data collection. The first is semi-structured
interviews with industry experts on fintech and financial intermediation. The second is a
survey that tested how a group of brands scored in three different trust dimensions. The
third is an experiment with a questionnaire involving a fictitious fintech app which was
provided by three brands, which we selected through the previous survey based on their
trust levels. From this data, we analyze and study the importance of trust for financial
intermediation services and the transferability of trust between different domains. Through
our analysis and research we found three key insights on the topic. Firstly, we found that
integrity-based trust has the most impactful effect on behavioral intention towards use of
financial services. Secondly, we found that integrity-based trust and benevolence-based
trust is more transferable between domains than ability-based trust. Thirdly, we expect
that integrity-based trust will become less important in financial intermediation as the
domain and its services move further away from traditional financial intermediation
following technological change. Overall, our findings suggest that trust is integral for
financial intermediation and that it still provides incumbents a competitive edge. However,
regarding the future of financial intermediation we expect that technological change will
alter the relative importance of the trust dimensions. The reasons for this change will be
the drivers of disintermediation of finance and changes in consumers’ cognitive perception
in reaction to technological change.nhhma
Underage Drinking in Nebraska
This brief describes the prevalence of underage drinking in Nebraska and its associated outcomes, as well as state policies pertinent to underage drinking and evidence-based strategies that can prevent underage drinking. We defined underage drinking as alcohol consumption by persons younger than 21 years. In 2010, Nebraska’s underage drinking costs, including medical care, work loss, and pain and suffering, totaled more than an estimated 2,309 per year for each youth in Nebraska or $2.92 per drink. Underage customers consumed about a quarter of all alcohol sold in Nebraska. In a ranking of states based on the alcohol percentage consumed by youth, with 1 being the highest, Nebraska ranked fifth. Nebraska policy makers should strongly consider the following state-level policies: increasing taxes on alcohol products, prohibiting youth exposure to alcohol advertising, limiting access to excessive drinking by maintaining limits on days of sale and hours of sale, maintaining and upholding the integrity of the minimum legal drinking age laws, and expanding dram shop liability laws. Cities should study innovative methods of regulating alcohol outlets that balance commerce and protection of citizens. Both local municipalities and the state government should ensure there are sufficient resources available to enforce existing and new underage drinking laws.https://digitalcommons.unmc.edu/coph_policy_reports/1004/thumbnail.jp
Extrinsic rewards and their subsequent effects on student intrinsic motivation
This paper reviews the current literature on the advantages and disadvantages of the use of different extrinsic rewards and their impact on student intrinsic motivation. A review of literature will address three central questions: 1.What are the advantages of extrinsic rewards? 2.What are the disadvantages of extrinsic rewards? 3.What are the special conditions under which external rewards impact intrinsic motivation
