    Description of the project The research involved six case studies of higher education institutions across England, Scotland and Wales. The project aims were:to explore staff experiences of equity issues and institutional equity policies. Participants were drawn from different occupational backgrounds and a variety of socio-cultural groups paying attention also to gender, sexual orientation, ‘race’/ethnicity, disability, age and religio to conduct a critical discourse analysis of equity policies in the six institution to gather the views of senior manager-academics and administrators on their institutional equality policies, and how these relate to national policie to identify challenges, inadequacies, examples of good practice, and constraints/incentives in relation to equity policies at institutional and sector level

    Committed to Content Provider or Mobile Channel? Determinants of Continuous Mobile Multimedia Service Use

    The focus of the article is analysis of relationships between value perceptions, commitment and intentions to use mobile multimedia service (MMS) content. Attracting a committed wide audience end-user base that uses multimedia content frequently is essential for success of the services. Customers’ preferences for both the content provider and for the channel used are included. This is necessary for exploring further how to increase continuous use and revenue per user in the mobile field. In the empirical case of mobile multimedia services in the real estate business, intentions to use the same service provider again were found to be directly influenced by commitment to use the same provider, and indirectly by emotional and social value perceptions of MMS content. The usefulness of the content had no effect on intentions to use the same provider. However, it influenced intentions to use the mobile channel as such. Implications for theory and marketers are discussed

    Abstract: This article deals with the constitutive role played by the emotion of guilt, or the capacity of experiencing such emotions, in our moral life. The deeply personal nature of moral guilt (or remorse) leads to the problem of ethical solipsism: it seems that guilt can in the end concern only me, not anyone else, in a morally profound sense. Echoing Dostoevsky, the truly ethical thinker ought to acknowledge that everyone is guilty in front of the entire mankind, "and I more than anyone else”. This problematic feature of our moral perspectives on the world is examined through comments on a number of authors, including Kant, Wittgenstein, Levinas, Gaita, and Todorov. While we do need to avoid solipsism, there is a "truth” hidden in it: morality is something that we are individually and personally deeply responsible for

    Stirring the Embers: High Sensitivity VLBI Observations of GRB030329

    We present high sensitivity Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) observations 806 days after the gamma-ray burst of 2003 March 29 (GRB030329). The angular diameter of the radio afterglow is measured to be 0.347 +- 0.09 mas, corresponding to 0.99 +- 0.26 pc at the redshift of GRB030329 (z = 0.1685). The evolution of the image size favors a uniform external density over an R^-2 wind-like density profile (at distances of R >~10^18 cm from the source), although the latter cannot be ruled out yet. The current apparent expansion velocity of the image size is only mildly relativistic, suggesting a non-relativistic transition time of t_NR ~ 1 yr. A rebrightening, or at least a significant flattening in the flux decay, is expected within the next several years as the counter-jet becomes visible (this has not yet been observed).     Late Time Observations of the Afterglow and Environment of GRB 030329

    We present Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) observations 217 days after the gamma-ray burst of 2003 March 29. These observations provide further measurements of the size and position of GRB 030329 that are used to constrain the expansion rate and proper motion of this nearby GRB. The expansion rate appears to be slowing down with time, favoring expansion into a constant density interstellar medium, rather than a circumstellar wind with an r^-2 density profile. We also present late time Arecibo observations of the redshifted HI and OH absorption spectra towards GRB 030329. No absorption (or emission) is seen allowing us to place limits on the atomic neutral hydrogen of N_H < 8.5 x 10^20 cm^-2, and molecular hydrogen of N_H_2 < 1.4 x 10^22 cm^-2.     Organometallic vapor-phase homoepitaxy of gallium arsenide assisted by a downstream hydrogen afterglow plasma in the growth region

    Includes bibliographical references (page 3146).In situ generated arsenic hydrides are reacted downstream with trimethylgallium (TMGa), both in the presence of and in the absence of a downstream hydrogen afterglow plasma. The homoepitaxial activation energy dramatically changes from 62 kcal/mol for the pure thermal to 21 kcal/mol for the plasma-assisted growth. The carbon incorporation mechanism for the plasma-assisted growth at temperatures less than 400 °C has a distinct activation energy for carbon incorporation of 23 kcal/mol, independent of V-III ratios. At temperatures above 400 °C, the level of carbon incorporated in the films reaches a level that appears to be dependent on the gas-phase precursor V-III ratio. The activation energy of the low-temperature region is consistent with the surface decomposition of arsenic hydrides

All previously reported laser action was on a pulsed basis only. CW laser radiation was obtained when F2 or AgF was used as a fluorine donor in an electron beam pumped helium plasma.
