Production and Validation Solutions for Improving ENC Consistency
Paper charts have traditionally been produced as discrete entities. With the advent of the Electronic Navigation Chart (ENC) and the Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS) it has become possible to view multiple “charts” of varying scales on one seamless display. The ECDIS display has revealed that some of the assumptions and processes used to produce stand alone chart products are no longer valid for ENC production, and result in data inconsistencies and a disjointed chart display. The ENC is not a chart in the traditional sense. From the mariner’s point of view, the dynamic and seamless ECDIS display is the chart. Cartographic principles that apply to individual charts need to be applied to the seamless display, whether it is composed of one or multiple ENCs. The challenge for ENC producers today is to ensure consistent encoding of features that span multiple ENCs. The growing need for hydrographic offices to implement spatial data infrastructures (SDI) and the current development of the S-101 ENC Product Specification provide the perfect opportunity to address ENC consistency. With the aid of modern enterprise production suites, production guidelines and validation software, ENC producers will be in a position to produce high quality and consistent ENCs.Las cartas de papel han sido producidas tradicionalmente como entidades diferenciadas.
The following article makes a contribution to the study of the different staging practices and dimensions of impression management of peer-cultures and their teachers in their reciprocal perception. It uses an analytical focus groups approach. The different staging modes are discussed based on the empirical of a Grammar School which claims to have a specifical exclusivity. The reason will be considered why Goffman's dramaturgical concept and especially mystification as the central strategy of the impression especially manipulation are suitable in order to decrypt for the different performance strategies of the various School actors. On the empirical base of the research project, this paper attempts to analyzise the different staging strategies of peer groups and their teachers in their reciprocal perception in school areas and the peculiarity of the field of research will be formulated
Emotions in online negotiations
Electronic negotiations are becoming increasingly important in today’s digitalized world. Negotiation success can be managed by properly dealing with emotions, as they possess an influential character on human, social behavior (Thompson 1990; Miller and Leary 1992; Izard 1993; Parkinson 1996; Keltner and Buswell 1997; Forgas and George 2001; Kelly and Barsade 2001). Research in this field, however, mainly considers emotions as static antecedence, or outcome variables, disregarding their dynamic character and continuous influence on the whole negotiation process (Homans 1974; Carnevale and Isen 1986; Frijda 1986; Sutton and Rafaeli 1988; Berkowitz 1989; Kumar 1997). In order to meet the challenges predisposed by the context of electronic negotiations, a more detailed understanding about the negotiation process itself is unavoidable. Therefore we need to identify the distinct negotiation phases, which altogether define a whole negotiation. In line with Phase Model Theory (Douglas 1962; Gulliver 1979; Holmes 1992) we are able to relate negotiation phases to specific emotional behavior. Furthermore, negotiators’ utility functions are used to refine the insights about the procedural character of negotiations. In the present work, we used multi-dimensional scaling to identify three dimensions (pleasure vs. displeasure, solidarity vs. conflict, and other- vs. self-oriented behavior), which further allow us to define distinct negotiation processes. By doing so, we are able to relate negotiation success and failure, to specific combinations of emotional characteristics. Both, successful and failed negotiations are characterized by an initial decrease of emotional positive expressions. For successful negotiations, we however observe a simultaneous increase of solidarity, as contrasted by failed negotiations. Ultimately, negotiations in which an agreement was reached are characterized by a final increase of positive emotions. We denominated this emotional pattern inherent to successful negotiations “emotional valley”
Multi-unit franchising
In the modern economic environment franchising is a key tool. This type of operation has its origins in the early 1880s and according to Grünhagen and Mittelstaedt (2005) since then grew in importance. It can be defined as an arrangement between the franchisor and the franchisee, whereas the franchisor as the founder of a unique business formally sells the right to use its trade name and operating system to the franchisee. Why firms prefer this type of franchising over other organizational forms has been tried to be explained by different theories over time. One of the main theories is the resource-based view. According to Barney, Wright et al. (2001) the resource-based view may be the “most influential framework for understanding strategic management.” Due to Windsperger and Hussain (2010) two dominant forms of ownership strategy of franchising, emerged over time: single-unit franchising and multi-unit franchising. With regard to the last, the franchisee is obliged the right to “own” more than just one outlet. Based on Grünhagen and Mittelstaedt (2005) as well as Kaufmann and Dant (1996) multi-unit franchising has major advantages over single-unit franchising, as accelerated company-growth, scale economies, greater market penetration or greater financial strength. In past years literature focused more and more on this topic, but it still lacks empirical background. In this study we will link multi-unit franchising with the resource-base view, focusing on financial resource scarcity, local market knowledge and system specific assets. Using a broad study of the Austrian Franchise Sector we tested our hypotheses about the ownership strategy of franchising empirically which is the objective of this thesis
The aim of this bachelor thesis is to develop a concept for a guidance and orienta-tion system for the Ehningen Library. After the move of the library to a new building in 2015, it has become necessary to replace the existing provisional system. The concept is based on scientific knowledge, including research in shop environments as well as on library-specific guidelines and recommendations of scientists from this area of expertise. These basics are explained in the first, theoretical part of the work. In addition, the essential elements of a guidance and orientation system are presented as well as future developments in this area. In the second, conceptual section of the thesis, an attempt was made to develop a concept for a self-explana-tory, clear and very visible guidance and orientation system. The thesis concludes with a cost estimation, recommendations for the further implementation of the guidance and orientation system as well as a conclusion
(Autorenreferat)"The following article makes a contribution to the study of opportunities and difficulties of female East German political mandate holders, and justifies the use of an analytical biography approach. The article is empirically based on the results of my dissertation project East German women in politics. A qualitative analysis. In this present paper I discuss the reasons why exactly the biography-analytical approach is suitable to explore topics of the intertwining of 'outer' life course and 'inner' sedimentation of biographical experiences. The key results of my study are outlined. It is shown that especially the rapid political and socio-cultural change within the former GDR in 1989/1990 offered unique participation opportunities for politically ambitious East German women to pursue a career as parliamentarians after a radically new political scene had been set up. The article also focuses on the paradoxes that the contemporary female mandate holders tend to be confronted with; these paradoxes are exacerbated by the ascribed genderized roles of female politicians. On the empirical base of my (finished) research project, this paper attempts to generate analytical categories and to discuss with their help the work and life situation of women socialized in East Germany within political arenas. The analysis will be pursued in a biography-theoretical perspective, and some ofthe particular features of the field of research of East German women in politics will be formulated." This system is also enhanced with voice control based on the Automatic speech recognition (ASR) system and module for speech synthesis Text-to- speech (TTS). In the first part of the thesis is described the whole issue and are defined particular areas, whose combination is essential for EHR system creation in this field. It is mainly basic delimiting of terms and areas in the dentistry. In the next step we are engaged in temporomandibular joint (TMJ) problematic, which is often ignored and trends in EHR and voice technologies are also described. In the methodological part are described delineated technologies used during the EHR system creation, voice recognition and TMJ disease classification. Following part incorporates results description, which are corresponding with the knowledge base in dentistry and TMJ. From this knowledge base originates the graphic user interface DentCross, which is serving for dental data...2. lĂ©kaĹ™ská fakulta UKSecond Faculty of MedicineFirst Faculty of Medicine1. lĂ©kaĹ™ská fakult
