Background and aim. Hip fracture is one of the major causes of loss of self-sufficiency in older patients. The associated caregiving rehabilitation task often falls to the lot of a member of the patient’s family. Our study aims at assessing the relationship between the psychological well-being of patients with hip fracture and their caregivers. Methods. The study was carried-out on 53 elderly patients with hip fracture and their primary caregivers. The Mini Mental State Examination (patient), Activities of Daily Living (patient), Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (patient), Geriatric Depression Scale (patient), Psychological General Well-Being Index (patient/caregiver) and the Caregiver Burden Inventory (caregiver) were administered to each participant. Results. The results revealed significant correlations between stress levels and the psychological well-being of hip-fracture patients and relative caregivers. In particular, the Caregiver Burden Inventory’s total score was negatively related to the patient’s Psychological General Well-Being Index score (p < 0.05) and with Anxiety (p < 0.05), Depressed Mood (p < 0.01), Positive Well-being (p < 0.05) and General Health (p < 0.05) subscale scores, as well as with the patient’s Activities of Daily Living (p < 0.05) score. Patients’ Psychological General Well-Being Index scores were related to the caregivers’ General Health subscale (p < 0.01), and negatively related to Caregiver Burden Inventory Time Dependence (p < 0.05) and Social Burden (p < 0.05) subscales, as well as with the Geriatric Depression Scale score (p < 0.05). Conclusion. A mutual relationship seems to exist between a patient’s psychological well-being and his/her caregiver’s burden. These findings highlight the importance of a bio-psychosocial approach to both patients and caregivers

The HTR Model for Well-Being in Educating Community

[EN] With the aim of enhancing human capital by bringing out talents, this paper offers a theoretical model for innovating teaching/learning methodological approaches. The Humor Talent Resilience (HTR) Model for Well-Being in Educating Community recognizes Humor as a pedagogical device that jointly feeds both Talent and Resilience. This nourishment triggers a dynamic process between Talent and Resilience of reciprocal and constant interdependence, while developing a mutual positive contamination in continuous evolution. This process is itself a “generator of Well-Being” but it will be able to fully convey its educational effectiveness only if it is supported by an Educating Community. While aknowledging the enhancement of all human potentials, including the high or very high potentials, the pedagogy of Well-Being must assume the educational responsibility of offering teaching/learning contexts that allow all students to reach their highest level of development. Three open reflections are presented: the concepts of justice and equity of educational policies and practices aimed at respecting and enhancing all human potentials; the virtual educating (or dis-educating) community; the need for specific training for teachers and more opportunities for international discussion in the field of gifted and talented education.Falaschi, E. The aim of this study was to detect monitor and promote subjective and collective resilient well-being in working groups of 16 different educational and school services involving 190 educators and teachers The methodology used was of the Research-Action kind with the direct participation of the subjects in all phases of the research According to authoritative theoretical models a survey questionnaire was constructed to detect the perception of resilience and well-being referred to both the professional self and its group of work The analysis of the results shows a tendentially high attribution to the values assigned to the characteristics of resilient personality to the condition of well-being in one s professional context and to the most acted out resilient behaviors - and ideally considered more effective - in response to a critical situation However the humor factor as a relaxing pedagogical device of relational ties should be strengthened Well-being and resilience are thus constituted as paradigmatic pedagogical categories of a self-ecoorganizational nature the formative value of which is in their dynamic nature of research of new regenerative balances - from ruptures transformations and renewals - to be constantly restructure

Thirty years of invasion: the distribution of the invasive crayfish Procambarus clarkii in Italy

    Get PDF
The presence of the red swamp crayfish Procambarus clarkii in Italy is documented since 1989, but no comprehensive data are available on its spread through time at the national scale. New confirmed records for Procambarus clarkii are continuously arising in recent years across the country. By reviewing the scientific and grey literature, we obtained an up-to-date map of the species invasion in Italy. This information can help to monitor and understand the spread of this highly invasive crayfish and to implement more effective management measures.

After the fall of Fascism Italian intellectuals suddenly discovered their own country and their fellowcitizens, whom they only knew from the Fascist propaganda. Cinema, photography, reportage, prose narrative: all these techniques were used to understand the country that had lost the war. In the mid-Fifties a booming economy transformed Italy again. This survey considers the years 1944-1963, and looks in particular at the following authors: C.Levi, Pasolini, Calvino, Piovene, Bocca, Bianciardi, Mastronardi; and first of all, with a deeper insight, Zavattini
