Quenched convergence of a sequence of superprocesses in R^d among Poissonian obstacles
We prove a convergence theorem for a sequence of super-Brownian motions
moving among hard Poissonian obstacles, when the intensity of the obstacles
grows to infinity but their diameters shrink to zero in an appropriate manner.
The superprocesses are shown to converge in probability for the law
of the obstacles, and -almost surely for a
subsequence, towards a superprocess with underlying spatial motion given by
Brownian motion and (inhomogeneous) branching mechanism of the form
, where depends on the density of the
obstacles. This work draws on similar questions for a single Brownian motion.
In the course of the proof, we establish precise estimates for integrals of
functions over the Wiener sausage, which are of independent interest.Comment: 22 page
Idős és fiatalkori információgyűjtési folyamatok összehasonlítása = Comparison of the information collecting processes in older versus younger adults
Kísérleteinkben a szakértelem, az emocionalitás, és az öregedés szerepét vizsgáltuk a döntéselőkészítő, információkereső, információgyűjtő folyamatokban. Legfontosabb eredményeink a következők: 1. A különböző kísérleti feladatok közötti különbözőségek gyakorolják a legerősebb hatást az információkereső folyamatokra. Az érzelmileg szegényes szituációkban az életkori különbségek bizonyultak a legfontosabbaknak, a politikai szituációkban (nagyobb emocionalitás) a fiatalok között a szélsőségesség szintje befolyásolja erősen a folyamatot. 2. A politikai szituációkban történő kérdezősködés több információt igényel. Ezekben a feladatokban a kísérleti személyek inkább az opciók közötti összehasonlításokra, mint valamelyik opció alapos kidolgozására törekednek. 3. Jelentős különbség van a fiatalok és öregek által beszerzett információk mennyisége között, a fiataloké a több. 4. A mérsékelt személyek kérdései politikai feladatokban egzaktabbak, mint a szélsőségesekéi. | In our experiments the role of expertise, emotionality (political extremism) and ageing was investigated in information seeking and information gathering processes preparing decision making. The most important findings are the following: 1. The most significant affects on the information seeking processes was produced by the thematic differences between the thematic subjects of the different experimental tasks. In the emotionally poor situations the age differences were more deterministic, in political situation (high emotionality) the level of extremism highly impinges the process among youngsters. 2. The questioning in political situations need more informations than in non-political ones. In these tasks the subjects prefer to strive for comparing the different options to thorough elaborating one of them. 3. There are high differences between the amount of informations obtained by youngsters and older people. The younger is higher. 4. The moderated persons? had more exact questions in political tasks than the extremits
Quenched law of large numbers for branching brownian motion in a random medium
We study a spatial branching model, where the underlying motion is
-dimensional () Brownian motion and the branching rate is affected by
a random collection of reproduction suppressing sets dubbed mild obstacles. The
main result of this paper is the quenched law of large numbers for the
population for all . We also show that the branching Brownian motion
with mild obstacles spreads less quickly than ordinary branching Brownian
motion by giving an upper estimate on its speed. When the underlying motion is
an arbitrary diffusion process, we obtain a dichotomy for the quenched local
growth that is independent of the Poissonian intensity. More general offspring
distributions (beyond the dyadic one considered in the main theorems) as well
as mild obstacle models for superprocesses are also discussed.Comment: Published in at http://dx.doi.org/10.1214/07-AIHP155 the Annales de

Bizonytalanságban történő ítéletalkotás időskori sajátosságai = Judgement under uncertainty in old age
A bölcsesség hagyományos, társadalmi funkciója a döntéseket segítő tanácsadás. A pályázati kutatás abból a hipotézisből indult ki, hogy ezt a képesség-együttest egy sajátosan a döntési problémák megoldására irányuló gondolkodásmód (reasoning) jellemzi. Sajátossága a cselekvést megkönnyítő, egyszerűsítő, kognitív eljárások (heurisztikus ítéletek, precedensekre épülő analógiák, kvázi-mágikus műveletek, stb.) dominanciája. 60 fiatal és 60 idős személlyel végzett 7 kísérlet eredményei támogatják a hipotézist. | The mental development across the life course originates special balances of growth and decay in the diferent stages of aging. The majority of the researchers get on well together that balances of the old age are characterized by the dominance of crystallized intelligence or pragmatics of the mind. Presumably, the so called old-age wisdom comes into being as a result of this balance. Advising to aid decision making is the conventional social function of wisdom. The hypothesis of the presented researches is the following: the all important feature of wisdom is a kind of reasoning that strongly oriented to solve especially decision-problems. Its most striking feature is the dominance of simplifying, action facilitating cognitive procedures (heuristics, analogies based on precedents, quasi-magic operations, etc.). The results of 7 experiments executed on 60 young and 60 old persons support the hypothesis
A scaling limit theorem for a class of superdiffusions
We consider the σ-finite measure-valued diffusion corresponding to the evolution equation ut = Lu + β(x)u - ƒ(x,u), where ƒ (x,u) = α (x)u2 + ∫∞0 (e-ku-1+ku)n(x,dk) and n is a smooth kernel satisfying an integrability condition. We assume that β,α ∈ Cη(ℝd) with η∈(0,1], and α > 0. Under appropriate spectral theoretical assumptions we prove the existence of the random measure lim e-λct Xt (dx) t↑∞ (with respect to the vague topology), where λc is the principal eigenvalue of L + β on ℝd and it is assumed to be finite and positive, completing a result of Pinsky on the expectation of the rescaled process. Moreover we prove that this limiting random measure is a nonnegative nondegenerate random multiple of a deterministic measure related to the operator L + β. When β is bounded from above, X is finite measure-valued. In this case, under an additional assumption on L + β, we prove the existence of the previous limit with respect to the weak topology. As a particular case, we show that if L corresponds to a positive recurrent diffusion Y and β is a positive constant, then lim e-βt Xt (dx) t↑∞ exists and equals to a nonnegative nondegenerate random multiple of the invariant measure for Y. Taking L = ½ Δ on ℝ and replacing β by δ0 (super-Brownian motion with a single point source), we prove a similar result with λc replaced by ½ and with the deterministic measure e-IxIdx. The proofs are based upon two new results on invariant curves of strongly continuous nonlinear semigroups
