Structural rationalization of the microhardness trends of rare-earth aluminosilicate glasses: Interplay between the RE3+ field-strength and the aluminum coordinations

AbstractMany studies have sought to rationalize property/structure relationships in rare-earth (RE) bearing aluminosilicate oxide or oxynitride glasses. In a set of 48 RE2O3–Al2O3–SiO2 (RE=La, Y, Lu, Sc) glasses of widely spanning compositions and RE3+ cation field-strengths (CFS), we observe strong correlations between the microhardness, glass compactness, and the average coordination number of Al. We argue that the well-known microhardness elevation for increasing RE3+ CFS stems not primarily from the RE3+ ions themselves, as hitherto believed, but merely from a structure-strengthening by AlO5/AlO6 polyhedra that cross-link different glass–network segments. Accounting for one-channel depletion improves missing value imputation in 2-dye microarray data

Abstract in Undetermined Background: For 2-dye microarray platforms, some missing values may arise from an un-measurably low RNA expression in one channel only. Information of such "one-channel depletion" is so far not included in algorithms for imputation of missing values. Results: Calculating the mean deviation between imputed values and duplicate controls in five datasets, we show that KNN-based imputation gives a systematic bias of the imputed expression values of one-channel depleted spots. Evaluating the correction of this bias by cross-validation showed that the mean square deviation between imputed values and duplicates were reduced up to 51%, depending on dataset. Conclusion: By including more information in the imputation step, we more accurately estimate missing expression values

Predictors of positive health in disability pensioners: a population-based questionnaire study using Positive Odds Ratio

BACKGROUND: Determinants of ill-health have been studied far more than determinants of good and improving health. Health promotion measures are important even among individuals with chronic diseases. The aim of this study was to find predictors of positive subjective health among disability pensioners (DPs) with musculoskeletal disorders. METHODS: Two questionnaire surveys were performed among 352 DPs with musculoskeletal disorders. Two groups were defined: DPs with positive health and negative health, respectively. In consequence with the health perspective in this study the conception Positive Odds Ratio was defined and used in the logistic regression analyses instead of the commonly used odds ratio. RESULTS: Positive health was associated with age ≥ 55 years, not being an immigrant, not having fibromyalgia as the main diagnosis for granting an early retirement, no regular use of analgesics, a high ADL capacity, a positive subjective health preceding the study period, and good quality of life. CONCLUSION: Positive odds ratio is a concept well adapted to theories of health promotion. It can be used in relation to positive outcomes instead of risks. Suggested health promotion and secondary prevention efforts among individuals with musculoskeletal disorders are 1) to avoid a disability pension for individuals <55 years of age; if necessary, to make sure rehabilitation actions continue, 2) to increase efforts to support immigrants to adjust to circumstances connected to ill-health and retirement, 3) to pay special attention to individuals with fibromyalgia and other general pain disorders, and 4) to strengthen ADL activities to support an independent active life among disability pensioners

El presente seminario de graduación titulado Planeación Técnica y Administrativa de una Auditoria a los Estados Financieros, aplicado en base a la NIA 300 en la empresa “El COMAL DEL MAÍZ, S.A” a Diciembre del año 2016, orienta a mejorar los procesos técnicos y administrativos, relacionados con el control y el manejo de estas. Se desarrolló una investigación descriptiva con enfoque cualitativo ya que describe los fenómenos como son observados y como aparecen en la actualidad, mediante un análisissubjetivo e individual de la entidad; explorando los hechos en profundidad,básicamente en ambientes naturales de la empresa, verificando los significados que se extraen de los datos y que no se fundamentan en las estadísticas, por lo cual permitió elaborar de manera adecuada una planeación de auditoría a los estados financieros, evaluar la eficiencia, eficacia con que se manejan y si se cumplen con los objetivos de la empresa. En base al contexto anterior la Planeación Técnica y Administrativa de una Auditoria permitirá que al momento de que se lleve a cabo la auditoría completa de la entidad, concluir con la emisión de un informe de auditoría donde se presenten los resultados y a la vez una serie de recomendaciones las cuales se deben poner en la práctica diaria de la empresa “El COMAL DEL MAÍZ, S.A” a Diciembre del año 2016, para el mejoramiento de los controles técnicos y administrativos
