LawSync: navigating the ‘blue oceans’ within the ‘emerging’ legal services markets
Change, it is said, is the only constant. Whilst it cannot be avoided, the worlds of legal education and legal services have arguably enjoyed an extended period where the impact of change has been comparatively minimal. Today, these worlds face significant changes due to a combination of market and regulatory forces. True, such changes are likely to be accompanied by challenges but with these challenges come opportunities. There is no reason why Law Schools and Law students cannot help to shape these changes and benefit from them. LawSync™ is a project that seeks to enable such influence and attract such benefits at Sheffield Hallam University. See http://www.lawsync.com and http://twitter.com/lawsync for more details
This article will examine James A. Michener’s Iberia as one of the finest books written
during the twentieth century on Spain. During a period of over forty years, Michener made
numerous trips to Spain, calling it his «second home», and, through travels to virtually every
corner of the nation, aided by thousands of conversations with Spaniards from prominent
to poor, Michener pieced together a fascinating collage of Spain and its people. His exhaustive
research and reading, brought to bear on every page of Iberia, enabled Michener
to write what is very possibly the most definitive one-volume chronicle of every aspect of
Spanish civilization, from history, culture, food, music, art, philosophy, and literature, to
bullfighting, festivals, politics, language, and pundonor. Finally, Iberia is a testimony to a
lifelong love affair of an American who once went to Spain but whose spirit never left it,
especially in the moment of his greatest personal crisis
The Characteristics of Incidental Pituitary Microadenomas in 120 Korean Forensic Autopsy Cases
To investigate the characteristics of incidental pituitary microadenomas, we examined 120 pituitary glands from Korean forensic autopsy cases, from which eight tumors were identified (incidence 6.7%). The average age of the affected subjects was 50 yr (range: 33-96 yr) with a female predominance. The maximum diameters of the tumors ranged from 0.4 to 5.4 mm (mean: 2.8 mm). Immunohistochemical analysis of pituitary hormones revealed three growth hormone-secreting adenomas, one prolactin-producing adenoma, one gonadotropin-producing adenoma, one plurihormonal adenoma, and two null cell adenomas. MIB-1 staining for Ki-67 antigen showed no positive expression. The microvessel density (MVD) of the pituitary microadenomas ranged from 2.3 to 11.6% (mean: 5.3%) and was significantly lower than that of nonneoplastic pituitary glands (11.9-20.1%, mean: 14.8%). Our study provides reference data on incidental pituitary microadenomas in the Korean population
First Transcriptome of the Testis-Vas Deferens-Male Accessory Gland and Proteome of the Spermatophore from Dermacentor variabilis (Acari: Ixodidae)
Ticks are important vectors of numerous human diseases and animal diseases. Feeding stimulates spermatogenesis, mating and insemination of male factors that trigger female reproduction. The physiology of male reproduction and its regulation of female development are essentially a black box. Several transcriptomes have catalogued expression of tick genes in the salivary glands, synganglion and midgut but no comprehensive investigation has addressed male reproduction and mating. Consequently, a new global approach using transcriptomics, proteomics, and quantitative gene expression is needed to understand male reproduction and stimulation of female reproduction
