Modelling Wt and tWZ production at NLO for ATLAS analyses

The generation of single top production in the $Wt$ channel at NLO gives rise to doubly-resonant diagrams that overlap with $t \bar t$, and similarly for associated production with a $Z$ or Higgs boson. Several methods exist to remove this overlap, thus avoiding double counting and separating the two processes. In Diagram Removal 1, the amplitudes of doubly-resonant diagrams are set to zero, which also removes the interference of $Wt$ with $t \bar t$. If a measurement is performed in a region where this interference is not negligible, it would be of interest to take it into account. Another method, Diagram Subtraction, preserves the interference. However, it relies upon momentum reshuffling, which introduces uncertainties to the prediction. An alternative method, Diagram Removal 2, does not involve reshuffling and preserves the interference by subtracting the amplitude squared of the doubly-resonant diagrams from the total. The predictions of Diagram Removal 2 from MG5_aMC@NLO are compared with other predictions for $Wt$ and $tWZ$ production in the context of analyses at the ATLAS experiment. Implications of using Diagram Removal 2 are discussed, both for measurements of single top processes and when $Wt$ or $tWZ$ are treated as a background. We describe the concept and the taxonomy of personal servers, and their implications in seamless mobility. Personal servers could offer electronic services independently of network availability or quality, provide a greater flexibility in the choice of user access device, and support the key concept of continuous user experience. We describe the organization of mobile and remote personal servers, define three relevant communication modes, and discuss means for users to exploit seamless services on the personal server

The Ubiquitous Interactor - Device Independent Access to Mobile Services

The Ubiquitous Interactor (UBI) addresses the problems of design and development that arise around services that need to be accessed from many different devices. In UBI, the same service can present itself with different user interfaces on different devices. This is done by separating interaction between users and services from presentation. The interaction is kept the same for all devices, and different presentation information is provided for different devices. This way, tailored user interfaces for many different devices can be created without multiplying development and maintenance work. In this paper we describe the system design of UBI, the system implementation, and two services implemented for the system: a calendar service and a stockbroker service

Carter's constant revealed

A new formulation of Carter's constant for geodesic motion in Kerr black holes is given. It is shown that Carter's constant corresponds to the total angular momentum plus a precisely defined part which is quadratic in the linear momenta. The characterization is exact in the weak field limit obtained by letting the gravitational constant go to zero. It is suggested that the new form can be useful in current studies of the dynamics of extreme mass ratio inspiral (EMRI) systems emitting gravitational radiation.Comment: Minor changes to match published versio

Acute Jaundice in a Six-year-old: An Unusual Presentation of Atypical Kawasaki Disease

Kawasaki disease (KD) is a rare vasculitis of childhood that is critical to recognize and treat due to associated morbidity and mortality. A six-year-old male presented to our emergency department (ED) afebrile but with reported recent fevers. Exam revealed jaundice and erythematous tongue with papules, and laboratory studies indicated a direct hyperbilirubinemia. Admitted for evaluation, he developed continuous fever, increasing maculopapular rash, and subsequent desquamation of hands and feet. He ultimately met criteria for incomplete KD, was treated with intravenous immunoglobulin, and avoided cardiac complications. This presentation of incomplete KD with hyperbilirubinemia is rare because the patient was afebrile at ED presentation
