{\Large{\bf Higgs or Neutral Vector Boson Production with a Pair in {\LARGE } Collisions}}
Exploiting the fact that pair production in high-energy
collisions is very large, we use this process to trigger Higgs, or photon
radiation. We find that there are sizeable rising cross-sections for triple
bosons production. At energies about the new mechanism for Higgs
production becomes very competitive with the dominant Higgs production
processes in and reactions. The effect of different
polarized photon spectra obtained through back-scattered laser light on the
electron beam of a linear collider is investigated . We give a special
attention to the search of the intermediate mass Higgs in production and
discuss how to effectively suppress the backgrounds.Comment: ENSLAPP-A-430/93, 14 pages, plus 6 figures available through mail or

Academic Librarianship and Career Adaptability
The inspiration for this essay is Barbara Fisterâs assertion that librarians must embrace functions that have not traditionally been part of the academic librarianâs portfolio. We shall examine the need for career adaptability in librarianship and use a case study to illustrate the four attributes librarians need to develop to ensure career adaptability. The case study involved collaboration between Kansas State University (KSU) Libraries, an agronomy professor, and the Global Research Alliance to develop an open access croplands research database. We will draw upon the field of vocational psychology to discuss career adaptability and ways librarians can develop the traits needed for good career adaptability: career concern, career control, career curiosity and career confidence (4 Cs) (Savickas, 2005)
Understanding the effects of oneâs actions upon hidden objects and the development of search behaviour in 7-month-old infants
Infants' understanding of how their actions affect the visibility of hidden objects may be a crucial aspect of the development of search behaviour. To investigate this possibility, 7-month-old infants took part in a two-day training study. At the start of the first session, and at the end of the second, all infants performed a search task with a hiding-well. On both days, infants had an additional training experience. The âAgency groupâ learnt to spin a turntable to reveal a hidden toy, whilst the âMeans-Endâ group learnt the same means-end motor action, but the toy was always visible. The Agency group showed greater improvement on the hiding-well search task following their training experience. We suggest that the Agency group's turntable experience was effective because it provided the experience of bringing objects back into visibility by one's actions. Further, the performance of the Agency group demonstrates generalized transfer of learning across situations with both different motor actions and stimuli in infants as young as 7 months
Rcapture: Loglinear Models for Capture-Recapture in R
This article introduces Rcapture, an R package for capture-recapture experiments. The data for analysis consists of the frequencies of the observable capture histories over the t capture occasions of the experiment. A capture history is a vector of zeros and ones where one stands for a capture and zero for a miss. Rcapture can fit three types of models. With a closed population model, the goal of the analysis is to estimate the size N of the population which is assumed to be constant throughout the experiment. The estimator depends on the way in which the capture probabilities of the animals vary. Rcapture features several models for these capture probabilities that lead to different estimators for N. In an open population model, immigration and death occur between sampling periods. The estimation of survival rates is of primary interest. Rcapture can fit the basic Cormack-Jolly-Seber and Jolly-Seber model to such data. The third type of models fitted by Rcapture are robust design models. It features two levels of sampling; closed population models apply within primary periods and an open population model applies between periods. Most models in Rcapture have a loglinear form; they are fitted by carrying out a Poisson regression with the R function glm. Estimates of the demographic parameters of interest are derived from the loglinear parameter estimates; their variances are obtained by linearization. The novel feature of this package is the provision of several new options for modeling capture probabilities heterogeneity between animals in both closed population models and the primary periods of a robust design. It also implements many of the techniques developed by R. M. Cormack for open population models.
New Physics with three-photon events at LEP
The effect of the most general \z3gt vertex in the reaction e^+e^- \ra
3\gamma is studied with a particular attention to LEP searches. We give exact
analytical expressions including realistic cuts for the signal and present a
detailed analysis based on a Monte Carlo that includes the effect of the
irreducible QED cross section. As special applications we discuss the
effect of heavy scalars, fermions and gauge bosons and comment on the
``monopole" connection.Comment: No changes made from previous version, 34 pages, LateX, uses epsf, 11

Minimal Ten-parameter Hermitian Texture Zeroes Mass Matrices and the CKM Matrix
Hermitian mass matrices for the up and down quarks with texture zeroes but
with the minimum number of parameters, ten, are investigated. We show how these
{\em minimum parameter} forms can be obtained from a general set of hermitian
matrices through weak basis transformations. For the most simple forms we show
that one can derive exact and compact parametrizations of the CKM mixing matrix
in terms of the elements of these mass matrices (and the quark masses).Comment: 14 pages.Talk given by M.B. at the MRST 98, ``Towards the Theory of

Framing Collaboration: Archives, IRs, and General Collections
Collaborative collecting highlights the opportunity for liaison librarians and archivists in academic libraries to develop an integrated and holistic approach to the successful collection of library materials. Yet as academic libraries become the central location for general collections, institutional repositories, university archives, manuscript collections, and other special collections, the world of collecting in academic libraries becomes more siloed. The profession stands to benefit from a stronger realization of shared collecting practices. Liaison librarians have the potential to provide critical information to archivists in support of faculty collecting and research. Archivists have the opportunity to provide liaison librarians with context about university units and the organizationâs broader history. Shared information can result in more robust collecting policies and practices across the library
