The Innovativeness of Foreign Firms in China

    Get PDF
This paper studies the relationship between foreign ownership and innovations of high novelty in context of advanced developing countries. We develop hypotheses about a direct relationship in terms of two dimensions, propensity and intensity of innovations of high novelty, and a contingency hypothesis about the moderating impact of R&D internationalisation on the relationship with propensity. The analysis is based on innovation survey data on manufacturing firms from Jiangsu province of China. Hypotheses are tested using non-parametric methods. We find that foreign firms do not have a higher propensity of innovations of high novelty, not even when they engage in formal R&D. However, the evidence suggests that foreign firms have a higher intensity of innovations of high novelty than domestic firms.multinational enterprises, foreign firms, innovation, manufacturing, China

Principals\u27 Perceptions of the Most Important Components in an Effective Principal Preparation Program

Researchers in educational leadership have identified a need to improve principal preparation programs to meet today\u27s educational demands. According to school administrators in the local area, not all leadership preparation programs used the same pedagogies to prepare future leaders, and principals were critical of existing leadership practices. School districts, students, parents, and community stakeholders would benefit from well-prepared administrators who can apply the most effective habits of principalship. The conceptual framework of the study was derived from J. Davis and Jazzar\u27s 7 habits of an effective principal preparation program. For this qualitative case study, 16 principals were interviewed to find out which components of a principal preparation program they thought were the most important or had best prepared them for their positions. Analysis involved open coding, and resulting themes revealed that principals perceived the most important components to be a multisituational internship and extensive experience with school budget/finance. A professional development session was created to share interview responses with policymakers. Principal preparation programs that involve an in-depth internship and practice with school budget and finance could be used to assist policy makers in developing leadership training programs for future principals to improve student and school performance for school districts. This project study could foster social change with greater school success for students, resulting from improvement in leadership preparation programs

Who bears the risk? Analyzing the strategic interaction between regulators and investors when setting incentives for renewable electricity

Master in Economics: Empirical Applications and Policies. Academic Year: 2019-2020Energy policies for promoting investment in renewable energy sources have become crucial for deploying different green energy technologies. Depending on their design, the conventional incentive systems assign the risk to either the policymaker or the investor, affecting the strategic interaction between them when setting a price for the subsidy. Moreover, Feed-in Tariffs, which were the principal subsidy scheme used in Spain, were removed in 2013, mainly because their design led to an unbearable deficit. Farrell et al. (2017), combining option pricing theory and game theory, propose an incentive system for Irish Feed-in Tariffs in which both parties would share the risk. Building on this approach, we develop a methodology to evaluate different optimal incentive schemes for Spain and present an application for 2013 and 2019. We perform an extensive numerical analysis to determine how the different proposals would work for Spain

This work investigates human Walking to Running transition (WRT) and Running to Walking transition (RWT). The focus is to be able to identify the correct WRT and RWT phase jumps. This investigation uses experimental data from the VICON Motion Analysis System (MAS) and of the treadmill WRT and RWT trials. The musculoskeletal model consists of pelvis, femur, tibia, and foot. This investigation uses as reference the work reported in the literature by Diedricj and Warren.. For the calculations in this investigation Excel and Matlab are used to filter the data and calculate the relative phase jumps. This work reports the effects of experimental MAS capture frequency, and subject’s level of obesity, on WRT and RWT. Specifically, in order to investigate obesity, the subject’s experiments were conducted with no additional weight of the subject, additional weight of the subject of 5 Kg, 10 Kg, and 15Kg
