Performance measurement in public sector organisation : application of balanced scorecard (BSC) in a UK local government authority

This thesis explores the suitability of using 'Balanced Scorecard (BSC) -a performance measurement model developed by Robert S. Kaplan and David P. Norton of Harvard Business School, USA' as a performance measurement framework for public sector organisations like UK Local Government Authorities. The research study was carried out using 'Case Study' method and the performance measurement model used for this study was a modified BSC model for'Non profit and public sector organisations' The test of the modified model of BSC was done on the London Borough of Tower Hamlets Corporate, Social and Housing Service Directorates. The testing of the model involved developing prototype 'Strategy Maps' and 'Scorecards' for all three service directorates and validating these through interviewing relevant officials. As each of the directorates were different in terms of service delivery objectives, stakeholders and performance measures or indicators, three sets of proto type strategy maps and scorecards were developed. The Strategy map included the vision, mission and strategic objectives of the organisation and directorates while scorecard showed the strategic objectives and their performance measures grouped under four perspectives of BSCService Users, Community and Stakeholders, Resource Management, Internal Process and Learning & growth. For validation of the proto type strategy maps and scorecards, senior officials of Tower Hamlets Council were interviewed. The analysis of the interview responses confirmed that the modified BSC model is suitable as a performance measurement framework for a local government authority like London Borough of Tower Hamlets. Some of the officials interviewed believed that if implemented properly, the BSC model can help achieve organisational alignment and inform next cycle of decision making. This may be an interesting area for further research

Bancassurance: A Potential Project in the Life Insurance Sector of Pakistan to achieve Consumer Trust and Awareness

The study focuses on bancassurance which is a globally developing concept in both banking and insurance sectors around the world. The study includes the concept of insurance, components of bancassurance and performance of life insurance and banking sector in this business. The study examines the approach of bank sales staff towards insurance products that is directly related to the success of bancassurance activity and also highlights awareness of life insurance with customers through the bancassurance channel. The study also evaluates the potential of bancassurance in the light of the findings of the study. The findings are aimed at improving bancassurance performance of banks and service provided to customers. This survey is to draw attention towards bancassurance which has much more important role in a financially unstable world with a lot of risks to hedge. Acute kidney injury due to star fruit ingestion: A case report

Star fruit (Avarrhoa carambola) is a fruit from oxalidace family. lt is found in many countries of the world including Bangladesh. But its ingestion or drinking star fruit juice may lead to intoxication especially in patients with chronic kidney disease and manifestations might be neurological or nephrological. lt may also cause acute kidney injury in patients with previously normal renal function. Here we are presenting a case who presented with acute kidney injury after star fruit ingestion with previously unknown renal function impairment. The etiology was confirmed by histopathological exami­nation after doing renal biopsy. This renal function impairment is mainly due to oxalate crystal induce nephropathy which is richly abundant in star fruit. His renal function was improved ·with conservative management. Physicians should be alert to consider the ingestion of star fruit as a cause of acute kidney injury in a patient even in the absence of previous renal function impairment

Serum Prolactin as an Early Biomarker for Detection of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus-An Experience at CMH Quetta

Objective: To determine the association between elevated serum prolactin and the development of gestational diabetes mellitus in the first trimester. Study Design: Prospective longitudinal study. Place and Duration of Study: Pathology Department, Combined Military Hospital, Quetta Pakistan, from Apr 2021 to Mar 2022. Methodology: One hundred and twenty-one patients had a measurement of serum prolactin in the first trimester, along with an oral glucose tolerance test in the second and third trimester, at the Pathology Department Combined Military Hospital Quetta Pakistan. Results: In the study group, serum prolactin levels were raised in 51(42.1%) patients in the first trimester. A total of 44(36.3%) patients with raised serum prolactin had impaired oral glucose tolerance tests. A significant association was found between raised serum prolactin and subsequent development of gestational diabetes mellitus in pregnant females. Conclusion: Serum prolactin can be an important biomarker for early diagnosis and monitoring of gestational diabetes mellitus

GFRP EXPOSED TO DIFFERENT ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

The use of unidirectional Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) composites to reinforce glulam beams in tension has been proven by researchers at University of Maine and others to improve both allowable strength and ductility. The addition of 3 % E-glass FRP has been shown to increase the allowable flexural strength by as much as 100%. These promising findings can be used in practice only if the GFRP will maintain a major proportion of its strengthfstiffness mechanical properties over the life of the structure. This study focuses on the fatigue life of two types of E-glasslphenolic GFRP (hand lay-up and pultruded) with special emphasis on the effect of environmental degradation on the fatigue life of pultruded GFRP. Fatigue life ofpultruded GFRP was evaluated after treatment in salt water, hot water, freezethaw, and UV weathering. Static tests indicate that hot water (45°C) causes the higher reduction in tensile strength. The Young's modulus did not change significantly for any of the exposed specimens. Fatigue tests were conducted at constant amplitude at a frequency of 20H2, and S-N curves were developed for each exposure group

(3) Pelayanan prima ditunjukkan dengan ramah, tanggap, sopan santun, berseragam dalam memberikan pelayanannya. (4) Meningkatkan Kualitas dan Kuantitas produk dan jasa, dalam hal mempertahankan kualitas dan kuantitas produk dan jasanya sebagaimana yang di lakukan Cybercom Advertising yaitu memberikan pelayanan jasa dan produk di bidang Advertising yang unggul dan inovatif untuk memberikan kepuasan kepada konsumen. (5) Finising pelayanan jasa dan produk sesuai dengan target waktunya (on time), dengan cara rnemberikan tanda terima dan perintah kerja kepada karyawannya, pekerjaan yang mana dulu yang harus diselesaikan terlebih dahulu supaya ketepatan waktu dalam penyelesaian pelayanan ini sesuai dengan harapan konsumen dan pimpinan. Dari penelitian diatas memberikan rekomendasi kepada peneliti selanjutnya perlu bekerjasama dengan instansi dan masyarakat secara koordinasi, integratif, antisipatif, dan solutif, untuk menciptakan strategi-strategi komunikasi pemasaran yang penuh inovatif menjaga kepercayaan masyarakat dan menghadapi pesaingnya
