Technological based incubator and university: A case study in the region of Itajai Valley
By understanding organizations in depth, it is possible to perceive some interactions of organizations with other organizations and with their environment. This research aims to understand the dimensions that explain the relationship network existing between a technology-based incubator and a university located in the region of the Itajaí valley. Methodologically this study is characterized as descriptive in relation to its objective, as for the procedures it can be considered as applied research from the survey of primary data and qualitative in relation to the approach of the problem. Thus, the main results have identified that the main relationship between the incubator and the university lies in the structure of the board of directors of the incubator, where the dean of administration is the chairman of the incubator's board. Therefore, although there are some deficiencies in the relations between institutions, it can be considered as the bridge of success

Dietary whey protein lessens several risk factors for metabolic diseases: a review
Obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) have grown in prevalence around the world, and recently, related diseases have been considered epidemic. Given the high cost of treatment of obesity/DM-associated diseases, strategies such as dietary manipulation have been widely studied; among them, the whey protein diet has reached popularity because it has been suggested as a strategy for the prevention and treatment of obesity and DM in both humans and animals. Among its main actions, the following activities stand out: reduction of serum glucose in healthy individuals, impaired glucose tolerance in DM and obese patients; reduction in body weight; maintenance of muscle mass; increases in the release of anorectic hormones such as cholecystokinin, leptin, and glucagon like-peptide 1 (GLP-1); and a decrease in the orexigenic hormone ghrelin. Furthermore, studies have shown that whey protein can also lead to reductions in blood pressure, inflammation, and oxidative stress.Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP)Univ Estadual Campinas UNICAMP, Dept Clin Med, BR-13083970 Campinas, SP, BrazilUniv São Paulo, Inst Ciencias Biomed, Dept Fisiol & Biofis, São Paulo, BrazilUniv Extremo Catarinense, Lab Bioquim & Fisiol Exercicio, Criciuma, SC, BrazilUniv Estadual Paulista UNESP, Dept Patol, Botucatu, SP, BrazilUniversidade Federal de São Paulo UNIFESP, Dept Fisiol, São Paulo, BrazilUniversidade Federal de São Paulo UNIFESP, Dept Psicobiol, São Paulo, BrazilUniversidade Federal de São Paulo UNIFESP, Dept Fisiol, São Paulo, BrazilUniversidade Federal de São Paulo UNIFESP, Dept Psicobiol, São Paulo, BrazilWeb of Scienc
PODE O BLUE LASER IMAGING COLABORAR NO DIAGNÓSTICO DIFERENCIAL ENTRE LESÕES NEOPLÁSICAS E NÃO NEOPLÁSICAS COLORRETAIS?
Introduction: Improved endoscopic imaging allows the differential diagnosis of colorectal lesions in real time through the study of the microvasculature. Objective: To review the use of Blue Laser Imaging (BLI) in analyzing the capillary patern for the differential diagnosis between neoplastic and non-neoplastic lesions. Method: This is an integrative review of the literature that collected information published on virtual platforms in Portuguese and English. The search for reading and analysis was carried out on the SciELO – Scientific Electronic Library Online, Google Scholar, Pubmed and Scopus platforms. The descriptors taken from DeCS/MESH were: “Blue laser imaging. Endoscopy. Chromoendoscopy, Colorectal polyps. Magnification” and its English counterparts “Blue laser imaging. Image-enhanced endoscopy. Chromoendoscopy. Colorectal polyps. Magnification” with AND or OR search, considering the title and/or abstract. Anti-inflammatory response to acute exercise is related with intensity and physical fitness
Purpose: The relationship between inflammatory markers and energetic metabolism has been explored. However, the relation between exercise intensity and fitness-status is unclear and it is
necessary to understand this relationship to apply specific exercise guidance. The purpose of the study was to analyze metabolic and inflammatory responses imposed by acute exercise sessions
performed at moderate, heavy and severe intensities and their relationship with physical fitnessstatus.
Methods: Nineteen healthy male volunteers performed three acute exercise sessions until exhaustion or up to 60 minutes on a cycle ergometer at moderate (90% of VT1), heavy (midpoint between VT1/VT2), and severe (midpoint between VT2/Wmax) intensities. Blood lactate, glucose, NEFA, endotoxin and cytokines were determined for each exercise session. Peripheral
and LPS-stimulated release of TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-10 were analyzed pre, post and 60-min after sessions. Results: In peripheral blood, severe intensity increased lactate, endotoxin and TNF-α immediately post-exercise and glucose at 60-min post-exercise. There was a trend for IL-10
increase at 60-min post-exercise in peripheral blood. Immediately post-exercise, LPS-stimulated TNF-α, IL-6, IL-6/IL-10 ratio and lactate levels were higher in the severe intensity while NEFA
levels decreased at this time. At 60-min post-exercise higher concentrations of glucose and a trend for increased IL-10 were observed in severe intensity. Positive correlation was observed between maximal aerobic power and IL-10 (r=0.513, p=0.042) and negative correlations
between maximal aerobic power and endotoxin (r=-0.531, p=0.034) and lactate (r=-0.538, p=0.031) in heavy intensity. Conclusion: Our data show a novel finding that higher cytokine responses occur at higher intensities, mainly in severe intensity. However, the anti-inflammatory
(IL-10) response was physical fitness-dependent
Attenuation of motor deficits by hydroethanolic extract of Poincianella pyramidalis in a Parkinson's disease model
The present study aimed to evaluate the possible neuroprotective effect of the hydroethanolic extract of Poincianella pyramidalis (EFIPp) (Tul.) L. P. Queiroz (Fabaceae), an endemic plant found in Northeastern Brazil, commonly used in folk medicine, on the motor deficits induced by repeated treatment with reserpine (RES) in rats. Adult male Wistar rats received 10 s.c. injections of 0.1 mg/kg RES or vehicle (VR), every 48 h, and daily i.p. injections daily of HEPp (25 mg/kg) or vehicle (VE). Throughout treatment, catalepsy behavior and oral movements were scored. After behavioral tests, superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) activities were evaluated in the prefrontal cortex, hippocampus and striatum. RES treatment induced a progressive increase of catalepsy time in the treated group compared to control groups starting at day 15. RES also increased the number of vacuous chewing movements, tongue protrusions and duration of facial twitching. Treatment with HEPp attenuated the motor deficit in the catalepsy test and delayed the onset of oral movements induced by RES. No significant changes were observed in the antioxidant assay. Taken together, these results show a beneficial effect of HEPp on motor deficits induced by reserpine, suggesting a neuroprotective effect in a rat model of PD.Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Cientifico e Tecnologico (CNPq)Coordenacao de Aperfeicoamento de Pessoal de Nivel Superior (CAPES)Fundação de Apoio a Pesquisa e a Inovação Tecnologica do Estado de Sergipe (FAPITEC)Pro-reitoria de Pesquisa da Universidade Federal de Sergipe (POSGRAP/UFS)Univ Fed Sergipe, Dept Physiol, Sao Cristovao, SE, BrazilUniv Massachusetts, Neurosci & Behav Program, Amherst, MA 01003 USAMinist Educ, CAPES Fdn, BR-70040020 Brasilia, DF, BrazilUniv Fed Sao Paulo, Dept Biosci, Santos, SP, BrazilUniv Fed Sao Paulo, Dept Pharmacol, Sao Paulo, SP, BrazilUniv Fed Sergipe, Dept Biosci, Itabaiana, SE, BrazilUniv Fed Sao Paulo, Dept Biosci, Santos, SP, BrazilUniv Fed Sao Paulo, Dept Pharmacol, Sao Paulo, SP, BrazilWeb of Scienc
Chuveiro elétrico com regulagem modular de altura: uma alternativa de acessibilidade à mobilidade reduzida e à eficiência energética/ Electric shower with modular height regulation: an alternative of accessibility to reduced mobility and energy efficiency
Hypothalamic inflammation is reversed by endurance training in anorectic-cachectic rats

Abstract

Aim

We tested the effects of a cancer cachexia-anorexia sydrome upon the balance of anti and pro-inflammatory cytokines in the hypothalamus of sedentary or trained tumour-bearing (Walker-256 carcinosarcoma) rats.

Methods

Animals were randomly assigned to a sedentary control (SC), sedentary tumour-bearing (ST), and sedentary pair-fed (SPF) groups or, exercised control (EC), exercised tumour-bearing (ET) and exercised pair-fed (EPF) groups. Trained rats ran on a treadmill (60%VO2max) for 60 min/d, 5 days/wk, for 8 wks. We evaluated food intake, leptin and cytokine (TNF-α, IL1β) levels in the hypothalamus.

Results

The cumulative food intake and serum leptin concentration were reduced in ST compared to SC. Leptin gene expression in the retroperitoneal adipose tissue (RPAT) was increased in SPF in comparison with SC and ST, and in the mesenteric adipose tissue (MEAT) the same parameter was decreased in ST in relation to SC. Leptin levels in RPAT and MEAT were decreased in ST, when compared with SC. Exercise training was also able to reduce tumour weight when compared to ST group. In the hypothalamus, IL-1β and IL-10 gene expression was higher in ST than in SC and SPF. Cytokine concentration in hypothalamus was higher in ST (TNF-α and IL-1β, p < 0.05), compared with SC and SPF. These pro-inflammatory cytokines concentrations were restored to control values (p < 0.05), when the animals were submitted to endurance training.

Conclusion

Cancer-induced anorexia leads towards a pro-inflammatory state in the hypothalamus, which is prevented by endurance training which induces an anti-inflammatory state, with concomitant decrease of tumour weight.</p
