Basil is a plant that produces essential oils, a condiment to several foods and raw material medicinal purposes. Beyond that, this culture is gaining great importance on the branch of ornamental plants in recent years. However, there is a lack of research in this area. In this direction, this job had the aim to evaluate the development of three cultivars of basil (Ocimum spp), as well, to evaluate the ornamental potential of these cultivars. To that end, was developed an experiment in randomized blocks, with three basil cultivars, ‘Grecco a Palla’, ‘Thai basil’ and ‘Sweet Italian Large Red Leaf’ that corresponded to the treatments, and three repetitions to each treatment. During the development of the cultivars, were evaluated the Speed Germination Index, the germination rate, heigh of the plant, plant canopy diameter, length of the leaves, length of the inflorescences, dry weight of leaf, dry mass sheet. To determinate the ornamental potential, will also be evaluated leaf volume, shape, texture, size, color of flowers, color of the leaves and color of the stalk. After statistical analysis, were possible to observe that the cultivars differed between them to the variable answer to dry mass sheet. The cultivar ‘Grecco a Palla’ presented germination data, development of changing plants and better characteristics to ornamental purposes than the other cultivars
Amphibians and reptiles from a protected area in western Brazilian Amazonia (Reserva Extrativista do Baixo Juruá)
Sampling gaps across the logistically challenging and extremely biodiverse Amazonia largely hamper our understanding of broad-scale amphibian and reptile diversity patterns in this ecosystem. The Juruá River basin, a southwestern tributary of the Amazon River, is one of these undersampled areas, with only punctual information documented for these vertebrates that are spatially or temporally biased. This is especially the case for the lower-middle courses of the Juruá River, which also has comparatively less protected areas than its upper course. In order to fill some biodiversity knowledge gaps associated with amphibians and reptiles in this river basin, we combined results of our field expeditions carried out in 1992, 2005-2007, and 2018 to the Reserva Extrativista (Extractive Reserve) do Baixo Juruá, a Brazilian protected area in the right bank of the lower Juruá River. Amphibians and reptiles were sampled using four complementary methods: active surveys, pitfall traps, funnel traps, and trammel nets. We identified species or updated their taxonomic status with a reanalysis of the external morphology of the preserved material in the light of novel taxonomic literature (more than 1,500 specimens) and employment of DNA barcoding analyses for some newly collected specimens with contentious taxonomic status. Our combined sampling evidenced 149 species of amphibians and reptiles occurring in this protected area (72 amphibians, 68 squamates, six chelonians, and three crocodilians). Recorded species highlight the value of the lower Juruá River region as harboring quite diverse assemblages for these vertebrates, with species typical of the western and southwestern Amazonia sub-regions. Remarkable species records are presented, as well as accounts on species with lower taxonomic resolution. Furthermore, we discuss the biogeographic affinities of recorded assemblages based on the species geographic range and preferred habitats, and the value of this protected area to preserve the regional biological diversity

The Use of Statistical Analyses in Papers and Graduate Programs in the Environmental Sciences area in Brazil
Environmental issues emerge in complex dimensions, which require an interdisciplinary framework in Environmental Sciences. Due to the diversity in statistic methods, the graduate programs need to update to form the environmental scientists. We test the hypothesis that QUALIS A1 Journals in the Environmental Science area use more complex statistical analyses. We describe the tests offered by graduate programs with PhD degree in the Environmental Sciences. 33.5% of 1560 papers evaluated, didn’t present statistical analysis. A1 Journals used more T-test, Chi-Square and Mann-Whitney than B1 Journals. There was no difference in the use of univariate, multivariate and Bayesian analyses. In Brazil there are 37 undergraduate programs in Environmental Sciences, of which 10 don’t offer statistics course. Of 38 courses offered, 73.7% provide only univariate statistics and 34.2% provide multivariate statistics. We conclude that the quality in papers doesn’t depend on the complexity of used statistical analyses, but on their theoretical framework.
The influence of high ionic strength on the potentiometric determination of pH 4.0 (25 °c, I = 1.0 mol L-1) in acidified brine of preserved hearts of palm
The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of ionic strength (I) on the potentiometric pH measurement of solutions with high I such as the Acidified Brine of Preserved Hearts of Palm (ABPHP) as it is accurately measured only in dilute solutions where I £ 0.1 mol L-1 as defined by Debye-Hückel's theory. Standard calibrators were developed to evaluate a potassium biphthalate buffer solution (BS4: pH 4.0 at 25 °C) with the variation of I of the medium. In practical application, the objective is the optimization of the potentiometric pH measurements of solutions having high I, for example, ABPHP with an I of 0.98 mol L-1 (1). The choice of this procedure is justified because ABPHP has a naturally high I that is not consistent with Debye-Hückel's theory. This can make pH measurements unreliable. From a public health point of view, the botulism often implicated these preserved vegetables, and the potentiometric pH measurement is the only legal parameter for quality control employed to improve sanitary control actions. The quantitative variables (position and dispersion) were calculated as mean, maximum and minimum values, standard deviation and coefficient of variation. Moreover, the Grubbs’ test was used to identify possible outliers and their homogeneity, thereby demonstrating the linear tendency of the results. Student's t-test and ANOVA with a 95% confidence index were used to verify the variability of the results. The results are promising, since by altering the I of the medium (I > 0.1 mol L-1), there was a change in the pH of the solution. This study is important to ensure a true quality control in the production of preserved hearts of palm
This is a proposal of analysis-interpretation focused on the Brazilian musical forms, in historical perspective and inserted in the theoretical field of intermidiality studies to defining their generic model in the contemporaneity. The corpus consists of two texts, namely: 7 - The Musical (2011), by Charles Möeller and Claudio Botelho (musicby Ed Motta), and Revenge (2014) by Anna Toledo (inspired by the work of Lupicínio Rodrigues). This attention, given such specificity of dramaturgy texts, is therefore composed of modes of reading (under construction) to understand its verbal aspects (the libreto) and audiovisual dimension. It seeks, then, to expand the forms of musical dramaturgy as a media combination process.
