We have also wanted to emphasize certain aspects of differential treatment in the sports practice refering to the elderly population groups and to the gende

Study on the contamination rate of mineral oil in natural-ester retrofilled transformers

    Get PDF
The replacement of mineral oil (MO) by ester (retrofilling) is a practice used in power transformers to reduce fire and environmental risk. Although measures are taken to remove traces of oil on the paper, a certain amount of MO remains, which migrates over time. This article presents a study to evaluate the migration of MO from paper to ester using techniques such as the iodine value or the measurement of permittivity and dielectric losses. This work was supported in part by the Spanish Research Agency under Project PID2019-107126RB-C21/AEI/10 and Project 13039/501100011033, and in part by the European Union's Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Program under Grant 823969

Assessing the amount of remaining mineral oil in retrofilled transformers is vital since that presence may worsen flash and fire point of the ester and impact the transformer dielectric performance; this article proposes a new experimental methodology to quantify the ratio of mineral oil in natural esters. This work was supported in part by the Spanish State Research Agency under Grant PID2019-107126RB-C21/ AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and in part by the European Union's Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Program, under Grant number 823969

Dielectric Strength of Nanofluid-Impregnated Transformer Solid Insulation

The interest in developing new fluids that can be used as dielectric liquids for transformers has driven the research on dielectric nanofluids in the last years. A number of authors have reported promising results on the electrical and thermal properties of dielectric nanofluids. Less attention has been paid to the interaction of these fluids with the cellulose materials that constitute the solid insulation of the transformers. In the present study, the dielectric strength of cellulose insulation is investigated, comparing its behavior when it is impregnated with transformer mineral oil and when it is impregnated with a dielectric nanofluid. The study includes the analysis of the AC breakdown voltage and the impulse breakdown voltage of the samples. Large improvements were observed on the AC breakdown voltages of the specimens impregnated with nanofluids, while the enhancements were lower in the case of the impulse tests. The reasons for the increase in AC breakdown voltage were investigated, considering the dielectric properties of the nanofluids used to impregnate the samples of cellulose. The analysis was completed with a finite element study that revealed the effect of the nanoparticles on the electric field distribution within the test cell, and its role in the observed enhancement. This work was supported by the Spanish State Research Agency under grant PID2019- 107126RB-C21/ AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness under grant DPI2015-71219-C2-2-

Use Performance and Management of Biodegradable Fluids as Transformer Insulation

    Get PDF
In recent years, the use of biodegradable fluids as liquid insulation for distribution and power transformers is spreading. The main biodegradable fluids used are natural and synthetic esters, although biodegradable hydrocarbons have been recently proposed. Biodegradable fluids have a much lower environmental impact than mineral oil, limiting the risk of soil contamination in leaks, which makes them a suitable solution for applications such as offshore transformers or railway transformers. Additionally, these fluids have a higher flash point than conventional mineral oils, which dramatically reduces the risk of fire and collateral damage derived from explosion and fire. Despite these advantageous factors, there are still some aspects that hinder the broadening of their use, such as the difference in thermal properties or the lack of accepted maintenance procedures for transformers that use them as liquid insulation. This paper presents the current status of biodegradable insulating fluids, analyzing some of their properties and discussing the aspects that are still to be investigated in order to make them a real alternative to petroleum-based fluids.Part of the work was performed during secondments and short visits between University of Valle, University Carlos III of Madrid and University of Cantabria executed in the framework of the BIOTRAFO project “Raising knowledge and developing technology for the design and deployment of high-performance power transformers immersed in biodegradable fluids”, H2020-MSCA-RISE-2018- 823969, 2019-21. Calcium/Calcineurin/Nuclear Factor of Activated T cells (Ca/CN/NFAT) signalling pathway is the main calcium (Ca2+) dependent signalling pathway involved in the homeostasis of brain tissue. Here, we study the presence of NFATc members in human glioma by using U251 cells and a collection of primary human glioblastoma (hGB) cell lines. We show that NFATc3 member is the predominant member. Furthermore, by using constitutive active NFATc3 mutant and shRNA lentiviral vectors to achieve specific silencing of this NFATc member, we describe cytokines and molecules regulated by this pathway which are required for the normal biology of cancer cells. Implanting U251 in an orthotopic intracranial assay, we show that specific NFATc3 silencing has a role in tumour growth. In addition NFATc3 knock-down affects both the proliferation and migration capacities of glioma cells in vitro. Our data open the possibility of NFATc3 as a target for the treatment of glioma. This work was supported by grants from the Fondo de Investigaciones Sanitarias (FIS) Spain (PI09/0218) and Red Temática Investigación Cooperativa en Cáncer (RTICC.
