    Chapter Mezzogiorno e fascismo

The relationship between Southern Italy and fascism is a little explored theme. The contribution reflects on this subject presenting unpublished conclusions: it starts from a volume by the author named after the monthly magazine 'Il Saggiatore' (Naples 1924-1925) by Gherardo Marone and expands the reflection through a more recent book by Zoppi dedicated to the magazine 'Questioni meridionali', also published in Naples, from 1934 to 1943. The three editors of 'Questioni meridionali' - Giuseppe Cenzato, an entrepreneur who was also the soul of the company, Francesco Giordani, a young chemical scientist, and Gino Olivetti, a politician and industrialist – despite being fascists, they created a periodical that showed how the 'Southern question', never mentioned by the dictatorship, remained, however, alive in its tragic backwardness. Every year, two large issues of the magazine were released, characterized by one or more original studies and always accompanied by extensive bibliographic reviews. Among the topics, analysed by a group of highly qualified scholars and often in comparison with the North of Italy, the following emerged: the railway network, tourism, the demographic and health situation, the birth rate, the difficulties of the construction industry, ports, the economic and production context. The magazine pays particular attention to the city of Naples and its housing drama and to the southern tax system, a primary source of backwardness starting with the problem of local government

Towards the sustainable hydrogen production by catalytic conversion of C-laden biorefinery aqueous streams

    Get PDF
An extensive screening of representative molecules of a post-hydrothermal process side stream has been performed with the aim of producing a gas mixture rich in hydrogen by catalytic aqueous phase reforming. The survey enlightens possible routes of valorisation of these by-products, scarcely investigated with other processes so far. The influence of reaction temperature was studied in the 230–270 °C range, looking at both the composition of the gas phase and the characterization of the liquid products. Indeed, the information coming from the condensed phase may provide relevant insights on the components that are not easily reformed, and that should be studied to improve the performance of the process. Binary and ternary mixtures of four selected compounds were tested to investigate synergistic and inhibiting effects, going towards the direction of a real biorefinery stream. The spent alumina-supported catalyst was characterized, outlining possible deactivation mechanisms of the catalytic system, and reused in two successive tests

Loeys-Dietz syndrome type I and type II: clinical findings and novel mutations in two Italian patients

    Get PDF
Loeys-Dietz syndrome (LDS) is a rare autosomal dominant disorder showing the involvement of cutaneous, cardiovascular, craniofacial, and skeletal systems. In particular, LDS patients show arterial tortuosity with widespread vascular aneurysm and dissection, and have a high risk of aortic dissection or rupture at an early age and at aortic diameters that ordinarily are not predictive of these events. Recently, LDS has been subdivided in LDS type I (LDSI) and type II (LDSII) on the basis of the presence or the absence of cranio-facial involvement, respectively. Furthermore, LDSII patients display at least two of the major signs of vascular Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. LDS is caused by mutations in the transforming growth factor (TGF) beta-receptor I (TGFBR1) and II (TGFBR2) genes. The aim of this study was the clinical and molecular characterization of two LDS patients

Wound Repair Capability in EDS Fibroblasts can be Retrieved by Exogenous Type V Collagen

Impaired wound healing is a typical clinical hallmark of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS). Mutated fibroblasts from EDS patients, which deposit an abnormal extracellular matrix, showed defective migration resulting in a marked delay in wound repair. The migratory capability remarkably improved in the presence of exogenous type V collagen

In this article, the author traces the evolution of Quebec Studies in Italy within the different disciplines. One fact is clear: in all cases, until the 1980s, they have been pursued on an individual basis and within the theoretical framework of Canadian Studies. Nonetheless, a first association of Québécistes in Literary Studies was formed at the Universities of Turin and Bologna, and led to the foundation of the Centro di Studi quebecchesi in 1984. As of 1999, this centre unites seven universities and highlights the vitality of Quebec Studies in the literary field in Italy. The specialists in social science have not yet attained their autonomy, despite having completed many studies. The current university reform nevertheless raises the hope that this autonomy may soon be gained
