© 2020 by the authors. The as spun amorphous (Fe78Si9B13)99.5Zr0.5 (Zr0.5) and (Fe78Si9B13)99Zr1 (Zr1) ribbons having a Fenton-like reaction are proved to bear a good degradation performance in organic dye wastewater treatment for the first time by evaluating their degradation efficiency in methylene blue (MB) solution. Compared to the widely studied (Fe78Si9B13)100Zr0 (Zr0) amorphous ribbon for degradation, with increasing cZr (Zr atomic content), the as-spun Zr0, Zr0.5 and Zr1 amorphous ribbons have gradually increased degradation rate of MB solution. According to δc (characteristic distance) of as-spun Zr0, Zr0.5 and Zr1 ribbons, the free volume in Zr1 ribbon is higher Zr0 and Zr0.5 ribbons. In the reaction process, the Zr1 ribbon surface formed the 3D nano-porous structure with specific surface area higher than the cotton floc structure formed by Zr0 ribbon and coarse porous structure formed by Zr0.5 ribbon. The Zr1 ribbon\u27s high free volume and high specific surface area make its degradation rate of MB solution higher than that of Zr0 and Zr0.5 ribbons. This work not only provides a new method to remedying the organic dyes wastewater with high efficiency and low-cost, but also improves an application prospect of Fe-based glassy alloys

In this paper, the characteristics of time, space, strong and activity frequency, b value, strain energy release of moderate earthquakes in southern Jiangxi and neighboring areas (23.66°N~27.20°N, 113.50°N~118.84°E) areanalyzed. The results show that, the region has the background of moderate and strong seismicity, and modern small earthquakes are distributed in dense belts. The main aftershock type and swarm type are the main earthquake sequences above moderate strength. Since 1971, seismic activity has continued to be active, with earthquakes of ML≥4.0 exhibiting obvious clustering property, mainly manifested by the spatial and temporal concentration of seismic activity; The seismicity of ML≥3.5 earthquakes has periodic characteristics, including the high active period, the quiet period and the occurrence of destructive earthquake events; When the b value is always lower than the annual average value, the moderate and strong earthquakes are active; The rate of strain energy release curve shows an accelerating trend before moderate earthquakes are active. The results of this study provide some important reference information for predicting the time, space and intensity of earthquakes in this region, which helps to closely observe the seismic activity in the region

WebBrain: Learning to Generate Factually Correct Articles for Queries by Grounding on Large Web Corpus

In this paper, we introduce a new NLP task -- generating short factual articles with references for queries by mining supporting evidence from the Web. In this task, called WebBrain, the ultimate goal is to generate a fluent, informative, and factually-correct short article (e.g., a Wikipedia article) for a factual query unseen in Wikipedia. To enable experiments on WebBrain, we construct a large-scale dataset WebBrain-Raw by extracting English Wikipedia articles and their crawlable Wikipedia references. WebBrain-Raw is ten times larger than the previous biggest peer dataset, which can greatly benefit the research community. From WebBrain-Raw, we construct two task-specific datasets: WebBrain-R and WebBrain-G, which are used to train in-domain retriever and generator, respectively. Besides, we empirically analyze the performances of the current state-of-the-art NLP techniques on WebBrain and introduce a new framework ReGen, which enhances the generation factualness by improved evidence retrieval and task-specific pre-training for generation. Experiment results show that ReGen outperforms all baselines in both automatic and human evaluations.Comment: Codes in https://github.com/qhjqhj00/WebBrai

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to compare the mechanical properties, host responses and incorporation of porcine small intestine submucosa (PSIS) and porcine acellular dermal matrix (PADM) in a rat model of abdominal wall defect repair. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Prior to implantation, PSIS and PADM were prepared and evaluated in terms of structure and mechanical properties. Full-thickness abdominal wall defects were created in 50 Sprague-Dawley rats, and were repaired using either PSIS or PADM. Rats were sacrificed 1, 2, 4, 8 and 12 weeks post-repair and examined for herniation, infection, adhesions, contraction, and changes in the thickness and strength of the tissues incorporated at the defect sites. Histopathology and immunohistochemistry were performed to analyze inflammatory responses, collagen deposition and vascularization. RESULTS: PADM showed more dense collagen deposition and stronger mechanical properties than PSIS prior to implantation (P<0.01). However, the mechanical properties observed after integration with the surrounding native tissues was similar for PADM and PSIS. Both PADM and PSIS showed significant contraction by week 12. However, PADM tissue induced less adhesion and increased in thickness more slowly, and showed less infiltration by foreign giant cells, polymorphonuclear cells, and mononuclear cells. Improved remodeling of host tissue was observed after PSIS implantation, which was apparent from the orientation of bands of fibrous connective tissue, intermixed with newly formed blood vessels by Week 12. CONCLUSION: PSIS showed weaker mechanical properties prior to implantation. However, after implantation PSIS induced more pronounced host responses and showed better incorporation into host tissues than PADM

Epidemiology and distribution of cruciate ligament injuries in children and adolescents, with an analysis of risk factors for concomitant meniscal tear

Get PDF
IntroductionTo investigate the epidemiological features and prevalence of cruciate ligament injuries (CLI) in children and adolescents, and to examine the potential risk factors associated with concomitant meniscal tear (MT) among this population.MethodsThe demographic data and injury details of children and adolescents with CLI from Southeast China were analyzed to describe their distribution characteristics, alongside an analysis of the prevalence of MTs, the most frequent complication. In addition, binary logistic analysis was employed to ascertain the risk factors linked to MT in individuals suffering from CLI.ResultsA total of 203 patients with CLI (n = 206) met the inclusion criteria, with a male-to-female ratio of 2.3:1. Notably, a higher proportion of females were aged ≤16 years old compared to males, who predominated in patients aged >16 years (P = 0.001). Among children and adolescents, anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries were the primary type of CLI, accounting for 88.18% (179/203) of all cases. The majority of cases (132/203, 65.02%) were sustained during sports activities, and sprains were the predominant mechanism of injury (176/203, 86.7%). Additionally, the most common associated injury was an MT (157/203, 77.34%). The posterior horn is the most frequently affected site for both medial MT (62.93% out of 73 cases) and lateral MT (70.19% out of 73 cases). Moreover, vertical tears constituted the majority of medial MTs (59.48% out of 116 cases). Furthermore, patients with a higher BMI faced an increased risk of associated MT in comparison to non-overweight patients (88% vs. 73.86%; P = 0.038). Each increase in BMI unit was linked with a 14% higher probability of associated MT occurrence in children and adolescents with CLI (OR = 1.140; P = 0.036).DiscussionACL injuries are a common form of knee ligament injury among children and adolescents, especially those over the age of 16, and are often the result of a sprain. Meniscal posterior horn injury is the most commonly associated injury of youth with CLI. Additionally, overweight or obese people with CLI are at a greater risk of developing MT

Catalysts are important to the chemical industry and environmental remediation due to their effective conversion of one chemical into another. Among them, composite catalysts have attracted continuous attention during the past decades. Nowadays, composite catalysts are being used more and more to meet the practical catalytic performance requirements in the chemical industry of high activity, high selectivity and good stability. In this paper, we reviewed our recent work on development of composite catalysts, mainly focusing on the composite catalysts obtained from porous materials such as zeolites, mesoporous materials, carbon nanotubes (CNT), etc. Six types of porous composite catalysts are discussed, including amorphous oxide modified zeolite composite catalysts, zeolite composites prepared by co-crystallization or overgrowth, hierarchical porous catalysts, host-guest porous composites, inorganic and organic mesoporous composite catalysts, and polymer/CNT composite catalysts

Finishing the euchromatic sequence of the human genome

Get PDF
The sequence of the human genome encodes the genetic instructions for human physiology, as well as rich information about human evolution. In 2001, the International Human Genome Sequencing Consortium reported a draft sequence of the euchromatic portion of the human genome. Since then, the international collaboration has worked to convert this draft into a genome sequence with high accuracy and nearly complete coverage. Here, we report the result of this finishing process. The current genome sequence (Build 35) contains 2.85 billion nucleotides interrupted by only 341 gaps. It covers ∼99% of the euchromatic genome and is accurate to an error rate of ∼1 event per 100,000 bases. Many of the remaining euchromatic gaps are associated with segmental duplications and will require focused work with new methods. The near-complete sequence, the first for a vertebrate, greatly improves the precision of biological analyses of the human genome including studies of gene number, birth and death. Notably, the human enome seems to encode only 20,000-25,000 protein-coding genes. The genome sequence reported here should serve as a firm foundation for biomedical research in the decades ahead
