Adaptive OFDM System Design For Cognitive Radio
Recently, Cognitive Radio has been proposed as a promising technology to improve spectrum utilization. A highly flexible OFDM system is considered to be a good candidate for the Cognitive Radio baseband processing where individual carriers can be switched off for frequencies occupied by a licensed user. In order to support such an adaptive OFDM system, we propose a Multiprocessor System-on-Chip (MPSoC) architecture which can be dynamically reconfigured. However, the complexity and flexibility of the baseband processing makes the MPSoC design a difficult task. This paper presents a design technology for mapping flexible OFDM baseband for Cognitive Radio on a multiprocessor System-on-Chip (MPSoC)
Incompatible sets of gradients and metastability
We give a mathematical analysis of a concept of metastability induced by
incompatibility. The physical setting is a single parent phase, just about to
undergo transformation to a product phase of lower energy density. Under
certain conditions of incompatibility of the energy wells of this energy
density, we show that the parent phase is metastable in a strong sense, namely
it is a local minimizer of the free energy in an neighbourhood of its
deformation. The reason behind this result is that, due to the incompatibility
of the energy wells, a small nucleus of the product phase is necessarily
accompanied by a stressed transition layer whose energetic cost exceeds the
energy lowering capacity of the nucleus. We define and characterize
incompatible sets of matrices, in terms of which the transition layer estimate
at the heart of the proof of metastability is expressed. Finally we discuss
connections with experiment and place this concept of metastability in the
wider context of recent theoretical and experimental research on metastability
and hysteresis.Comment: Archive for Rational Mechanics and Analysis, to appea
Probing the origin of fluorescence quenching of graphene-porphyrin hybrid material
We report transient absorption spectroscopic studies on the hybrid material composed of porphyrin molecules covalently attached to graphene for investigating the mechanism underlying the reported fluorescence quenching of porphyrin in the hybrid [1]. Excited state dynamics of pure graphene suspension and porphyrin have also been studied as reference samples. A fast excited state decay was observed in the hybrid
Helicoverpa armigera nucleopolyhedrovirus occlusion-derived virus-associated protein, HA100, affects oral infectivity in vivo but not virus replication in vitro
ORF100 (ha100) of Helicoverpa armigera nucleopolyhedrovirus (HearNPV) has been reported as one of the unique genes of group II alphabaculoviruses encoding a protein located in the occlusion-derived virus (ODV) envelope and nucleocapsid. The protein consists of 510 aa with a predicted mass of 58.1 kDa and is a homologue of poly(ADP–ribose) glycohydrolase in eukaryotes. Western blot analysis detected a 60 kDa band in HearNPV-infected HzAM1 cells starting at 18 h post-infection. Transient expression of GFP-fused HA100 in HzAM1 cells resulted in cytoplasmic localization of the protein, but after superinfection with HearNPV, GFPfused HA100 was localized in the nucleus. To study the function of HA100 further, an ha100-null virus was constructed using bacmid technology. Viral one-step growth curve analyses showed that the ha100-null virus had similar budded virus production kinetics to that of the parental virus. Electron microscopy revealed that deletion of HA100 did not alter the morphology of ODVs or occlusion bodies (OBs). However, bioassays in larvae showed that the 50% lethal concentration (LC50) value of HA100-null OBs was significantly higher than that of parental OBs; the median lethal time (LT50) of ha100-null OBs was about 24 h later than control virus. These results indicate that HA100 is not essential for virus replication in vitro. However, it significantly affects the oral infectivity of OBs in host insects, suggesting that the association HA100 with the ODV contributes to the infectivity of OBs in vivo
A pearl on SAT solving in Prolog
A succinct SAT solver is presented that exploits the control provided by delay declarations to implement watched literals and unit propagation. Despite its brevity the solver is surprisingly powerful and its elegant use of Prolog constructs is presented as a programming pearl
Continuum modelling of granular particle flow with inelastic inter-particle collisions
The kinetic theory of granular flow is a successful model for gas-solid flows. However, inelastic collisions between particles, among other mechanisms, cause agglomeration of particles, which may be the reason why undue sensitivity of the model to any slight inelasticity in inter-particle collisions has been seen previously. In contrast to a dry (i.e. no interstitial gas) granular system, this tendency to agglomerate in a gas driven two-phase system may be countered by the carrier gas turbulence. In this paper, a heuristic model for particle gas turbulence interaction is introduced within the scope of a generalized kinetic theory model which incorporates the carrier fluid effect on particulate stresses. The numerical results for the flow of granular particles in vertical pipes, which considers slightly inelastic inter-particle collisions, are in reasonably good agreement with published experimental data. Even in this relatively simple model, the results indicate that the interactions between the particle phase and gas turbulence need to be appropriately addressed in any kinetic theory based model for gas solid flows
Local Constraint-Based Causal Discovery under Selection Bias
We consider the problem of discovering causal relations from independence constraints selection bias in addition to confounding is present. While the seminal FCI algorithm is sound and complete in this setup, no criterion for the causal interpretation of its output under selection bias is presently known. We focus instead on local patterns of independence relations, where we find no sound method for only three variable that can include background knowledge. Y-Structure patterns are shown to be sound in predicting causal relations from data under selection bias, where cycles may be present. We introduce a finite-sample scoring rule for Y-Structures that is shown to successfully predict causal relations in simulation experiments that include selection mechanisms. On real-world microarray data, we show that a Y-Structure variant performs well across different datasets, potentially circumventing spurious correlations due to selection bias
The Ab-Initio Simulation of the Liquid Ga-Se System
Ab-initio dynamical simulation is used to study the liquid Ga-Se system at
the three concentrations GaSe, GaSe and GaSe at the temperature
1300~K. The simulations are based on the density functional pseudopotential
technique, with the system maintained on the Born-Oppenheimer surface by
conjugate gradients minimization. We present results for the partial structure
factors and radial distribution functions, which reveal how the liquid
structure depends on the composition. Our calculations of the electrical
conductivity using the Kubo-Greenwood approximation show that
depends very strongly on the composition. We show how this variation of
is related to the calculated electronic density of states. Comparisons
with recent experimental determinations of the structure and conductivity are
also presented.Comment: REVTEX, 8 pages, 4 uuencoded poscript figures,
